Cultural Economy Summit In New Orleans Reflects Hope

The Louisiana Cultural Economy is back.  It had simply taken a back seat to a driving force named Katrina.

On Friday, hundreds are in New Orleans to participate in Mitch Landrieu’s Cultural Economy Summit which was last held a mere four days before Hurricane Katrina.

At the time of the second summit, little did any know that the winds and the waters would destroy so much that was being built in Southern Louisiana.  The local movie industry was in full boom.  The music industry was playing up a storm.

While there is clear evidence that the economy is returning to New Orleans, the irony cannot be mistaken.  Katrina had no culture and no good manners.

Yet, we still have a way to go but are swimming with the floods of determination.  Last year, it would have been impossible to put on this type of summit.

According to Michael Kane of Mt. Auburn Associates who provided an action plan during the event said ”while there are various sectors that are definitely returning and others that need more help, there is no loss of determination from the people here and from so many outside of the area who want New Orleans and Louisiana to succeed”.

That is optimism needed and appreciated.
