 Major Convention

The “Cable Show”, a major convention is in New Orleans.  It is hosted by NCTA (National Cable & Telecommunications Association)

Internet Advertising

Here is a quote from the Center of Media Research

“According to findings of the Accenture 2008 Global Media Content Survey among more than 100 senior leaders and decision-makers in the media and entertainment industry, 70% of respondents indicated they derive some revenue today from new alternate forms of media such as downloading or watching TV programs "on demand," digital advertising, or user-generated content.

Based on the participating companies, the small percentage of revenue (less than 10 percent) actually represents tremendous growth, and substantial revenue streams are being derived today from these new forms of media. “

Yahoo, Microsoft, Icahn

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn has threatened to seek control of Yahoo! Inc.'s board if Yahoo! Fails to revive takeover talks with Microsoft Corp.

McKenna Museum

The McKenna Museum of African American Art cordially invites you to the opening reception of "Standing With Papa Legba: The Intersection of Contemporary Haitian Art" on Saturday, May 24th @ 6pm.

In both Haitian Vodou and New Orleans Voodoo, Papa Legba is the keeper of the crossroads of life and the determining power charged with opening and closing doors between the "real" and spiritual worlds. It is here, at the crossroads, that we find the work of late 20th century and early 21st century Haitian artists.

Army Corps of Engineers

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will issue Special Use Permits allowing the public to access designated areas of the spillway using All Terrain Vehicles (ATV's) for recreational crawfishing starting for one month on May 19.

ATV's will be permitted only for crawfishing, fishing and crabbing in an effort to accommodate the public demand. This measure will allow access to areas that were impacted during the recent spillway opening.

Road conditions are poor and the use of ATV's will reduce further road damage. Roads will eventually be repaired and rocked for car and truck access. ATV operators and passengers must wear a DOT approved helmet and must possess the necessary gear for fishing.

ATV's will not be permitted on levees or in the St. Charles Parish recreation and campground area. Joyriding will not be permitted and violators will be issued citations.

The designated ATV areas will be opened for general ATV riding as soon as trail repairs are completed.

A special use permit and map showing designated parking areas can be obtained at the Bonnet Carré Spillway office or from one of the Corps park rangers.

For more information and directions to the spillway, please visit the Corps recreation program site at www.mvn.usace.army.mil/recreation.
