 Jobs

A select group of employers with career opportunities will meet with job seekers at the Lockport-Lafourche Parish Job Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Valentine Paper at 139 Joe Brown Road.

The job fair is targeted to the employees of Valentine Paper Mill who will lose their jobs when the facility closes Dec. 28 but is also open to the public.  The Louisiana Department of Labor’s Rapid Response unit has partnered with Terrebonne Career Solutions and the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce to sponsor the event.

“The workers affected by the closure of Valentine Paper Mill have the experience and skills that make them very attractive to a variety of employers,” said Rapid Response Coordinator Greg A. Anders.  “We are collaborating with agencies within Lafourche Parish in our efforts to inform prospective employers of the job fair.”

Employers scheduled to participate include:  Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Danos & Curole Marine Contractors, J. Ray McDermott, City of Thibodaux and John Deere.

Rapid Response is an early intervention outplacement service offered to workers affected by major layoffs and plant closings.  These services are offered as a group activity at no cost to the employer or the participating employees.

For more information about the job fair, contact Greg A. Anders at (225) 342-2934.
