The following are notes and observations from the New Orleans, state and national political scenes as we approach the Christmas vacation:
New Orleans Mayor’s race will be somewhat quiet during Christmas. One candidate told me that it is going to be difficult to penetrate the quiet of Christmas and we should respect the people during this important time.
Four years ago, after Katrina, I attended Marva Wright’s Christmas Birthday show at Tipitina’s.I must confess, when Ms. Wright sang, “I shall survive”, tears ran down everyone’s eyes, including my own.For months, I could see nothing but trash, debris, wrecked homes, flood marks, FEMA tarps and signs of despair. We were wondering if we should have Mardi Gras. The idea of the Saints returning was a far-away dream. While there is so much to be done, I want to thank everyone who has contributed to helping bringing back New Orleans and much of South Louisiana.
The New Orleans republicans are somewhat divided. One group is in favor of Ed Murray for Mayor.Another group, which the Louisiana state party supports (its executive committee) supports Rob Couhig.
With Mary Landrieu in the fulcrum of the hot political “health care debate”, some are blasting Mitch Landrieu as being one of the “Landrieu’s”.I have heard people say and have read comments that they would never vote for Mitch Landrieu due to his sister, Mary.It is still very early to see if there is any fallout impacting Mitch Landrieu’s campaign.I personally believe that the two politicians are separate individuals and that each should be judged by their own merits or lack of merits.I believe it would be absolutely wrong to link one person to the other over the issue whether Mary Landrieu should be re-elected or whether Mitch Landrieu should be New Orleans’ next mayor.
The health care antagonism is still in full debate:So far, the Democrats have repelled all attempts by the Republicans to defeat the health care bill. The US Senate has been full of activity including a question whether there is “double counting” occurring in the analysis.
------some are blasting Mitch Landrieu as being one of the “Landrieu’s”.---------?????? Uhhhh, hello, uh, newsflash there slick,,,,,, He IS one OF THE LANDRIEU'S, duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… So EXACTLY what kind of DIFFERENCE is it that you may be expecting? Oh, I get it, a different SHADE of InDIFFERENCE… Whut a bunch of who dats……………… Stumbling, bumbling, clueless morons…. Oh, and Happy New Year….. Speaking of difference or whatever, let’s see…. Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars spent over the decades on the Stupordome in New Orleans… Probably a hundred million dollars of taxpayer support spent on the Saints as well during that time period… And the look on Tom Bensons face as it dropped in the middle of the Saints Wiggle Jiggle he was performing in his $250,000.00 taxpayer funded ‘owners box’ when someone told him “No, they missed the field goal and the score is now tied”???? PRICELESS….. HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!! Written by

I wouldn't worry too much about Mitch's candidacy. The fact that Mary sold her vote makes us all look like crooks.
That's what I hear from my friends in other places. It isn't far from the truth. Written by agin_cajun

The current Mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, once referred to the City of New Orleans as a 'chocolate city.' As far as Mitch Landrieu's prospects for becoming the next mayor of New Orleans, I have only one thing to say: unlike Mitch Landrieu's father, Moon, Mitch isn't chocolate enough. Written by Gerard

I agree that Mitch landrieu should be judged as an individual, as anyone should be. I am sorry that Leslie Jacobs dropped out, as we need a myor who is willing to "do what needs to be done" and will tell the citizens what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. I do fear we will not get the true leader we need to fix what ails this city. We can have "the same old names" in governemnt, but not the "same old same old" politics, that won't move this city forward one bit. Written by kpf
