After giving LSU Football Coach Les Miles headaches for years, talented quarterback Ryan Perrilloux was finally kicked off the football team today. It was a good move, better late than never.
While a member of the football team, Perrilloux has been nothing but trouble for LSU. He was linked to a counterfeiting investigation; he was busted for trying to enter a casino with false I.D. Back in November, Perrilloux was involved in a brawl at a Baton Rouge nightclub. Although not charged, Perrilloux’s behavior in the incident was deplorable.
In recent weeks, Perrilloux was suspended from the team for missing classes and team meetings. After that incident, Perrilloux got into trouble once more when he allegedly yelled a racial slur at a waiter at a local restaurant in Baton Rouge.
After all of these problems, Perrilloux was on a very short leash and obviously violated team rules once again. According to Miles, Perrilloux “didn’t fulfill his obligation as an LSU student-athlete.”
Perrilloux was basically a walking disaster and caused trouble for the entire team. He was a distraction and certainly had a negative impact on other players. Without question, Perrilloux received preferential treatment because of his star talent. No other player would have been able to survive multiple suspensions and brushes with the law and remain on the team.
After crossing the line one too many times, Perrilloux was finally released. Even though, LSU will enter the season without the talented quarterback and will probably not be as good on the field, the LSU football team will be better off without Perrilloux.
There will be no more questions about a double standard and uneven treatment. Now, without Perrilloux, the team can focus on getting ready for the next season and Les Miles can focus on coaching without worrying about what happens next with Perrilloux.
