Mitt Romney Launches GOP Presidential Campaign in Michigan, Not Massachusetts

A new face is entering the Presidential 2008 race—this time on the Republican side—Mitt Romney.  Although he hails from a state normally considered to be the “left coast” on the “east coast”—Massachusetts, he is being pitted as the true conservative in the Republican party.  Interestingly, he has made his campaign announcement at the Ford Museum in Dearborn Michigan where his father George Romney was Governor, not in Massachusetts where he was Governor..

Thus far, the major candidates for the Republicans are John McCain and Rudy Giuliani who have mixed resumes and are considered to hail from the more moderate branch of the Republican party.

Over the years, Romney has been building political organizations in key early primary states, and he also has strength in Michigan and other far west states where he is a Mormon.  He was head of the Salt Lake City Winters Olympics.

It is premature if being a Mormon will hurt him in the primaries. The vast majority of candidates and Presidents have been Protestants.

However, not all those in Massachusetts are enamored with the Republican candidate.  “Mitt Romney is the king of the flip-floppers,” said state Democratic Party Chairman Phillip Johnston yesterday. “He’s changed his position on a whole raft of major issues, including gun control, taxes, gay rights and right of a woman to choose,” he said of the kind of criticism Mr. Romney will face from Republican and Democratic rivals.

To Hardy Parkerson Please check your facts out before you write them or pass them around. Your statement can easily be proven false by anyone who is willing to do a little research. No one in that church does what you say. You don't have to be a member of that church to know you don't know what you are talking about!

A Mormon would be a disaster for president. That religion is about as weird as the Muslim religion. Most male Mormons, although they have only one legal wife, marry womon after womon and divorce them one after another until in the eyes of the Mormon church they have as many wives as Joseph Smith or Brigham Young.

Romney, Conservative??? Mitt Romney is the same guy who stated in a former political race against Ted Kennedy that he was more liberal than Ted Kennedy!!! Conservative, I do not think so, no matter how much the media wants to portray him so. He may be more conservative than Hitlary Clinton, but that ain't saying much.
