In a show of strong opposition for the recent vote in favor of legislative pay raises and against Governor Jindal's statement that he would not veto the legislation , the Republican Parish Executive Committee of St. Tammany Parish has passed a resolution urging Governor Jindal to veto the legislation.
“This pay raise is excessive and was enacted against the will of the people,” said RPEC Chair Pam Egan of Covington, an at-large representative on the 19-member RPEC. “Despite his assurances to legislators that he would allow the pay raises to go into effect, Gov. Jindal should veto this bill. The people have spoken loudly against the measure, and the governor should do what the House did not -- honor the wishes of his constituents.”
On Monday, the Committee passed a resolution condemning the actions of the local House delegation in voting for or failing to oppose the pay raise for legislators and urging the Senate to reject the House amendments, killing the bill. Sens. Julie Quinn, Jack Donahue and A.G. Crowe voted against the amendments in accordance with the resolution, but the Senate voted to concur with House amendments, raising legislative pay to $37,500 per year and sending the bill to Gov. Jindal.
On Tuesday, the RPEC passed a second resolution, this one thanking the local delegation in the Senate for their votes and urging Gov. Jindal to break his pledge of neutrality on the issue and veto the bill.
Governor Jindal is a Republican and represented St. Tammany Parish when he was a Congressman.

Louisiana can see what electing a republican for governor has done to the state.
Jindal is like president bush in let`s spend every penny we can, because paying off our buddies is what counts in politics. You have to love jindal going around the country and telling them what a great governor he is, while he sit`s back and laughs at the people who voted for him. Has anyone here been able to talk with their great governor since this pay raise has hit the news? Written by Diaperman
