Will the U.S. Congressional resolution which will likely pass this week and which President Bush all but acknowledged the House passage morph into a “stop-the-funding” of the Iraq war question?

Obviously, that is President Bush’s main concern and he alluded to it during Wednesday’s press conference.

It is now a campaign plank now of at least one Democratic candidate for elections 2008, Democrat, John Edwards.

According to the AP, “Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards said Wednesday that he would immediately pull about a third of U.S. combat troops out of Iraq if he were president.

Congress should also cut military funding to force President Bush to do so, Edwards said.

Also, yesterday, House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi said during the House debate that Iraq War was not a “blank check”.

As the issue begins to gain momentum, perhaps after the passing of the resolution and during the Presidential debates, it could mean the troops left in the field mightbe drawing blanks.

There was never any need to send troops into Iraq. I did not support the president because he was wrong. I do not support wrong presidents. I supported the troops because I did not want to send them into a war which had no meaning. It did not and does not assure the security of the United States to fight in Iraq. Rather, it threatens our security by encouraging hatred around the world. Even our friends doubt and dislike us now, and I will not travel abroad for a long time. My last trip to Europe, which was in the same month that George Bush made the decision to attack, was so unpleasant that I do not wish to repeat it.

What a bunch of hooey, Audrey. Bush did not rush us into Iraq. Regime change in Iraq became the policy of the US in 1998. 13 UN resolutions later and warnings galore, we finally attacked. The whole world knew we were going to. That was the time for a resolution to stop action. All of those elected officials had the same intelligence. They voted. Now that the WMD was not sitting out there waiting and our enemies have taken their cue from those who tend to "blame America first" these same people are saying Bush Lied. Well if Bush lied; so did Clinton. Clinton made the same case in 1998. Anyone thinking that all these bad guys werent "talking" and plotting with one another does not understand the Middle East. Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, & Jordan are friendlier to the West because commerce is more important to them but most of all because Iraq under Saddam, Iran and Syria would love to overthrow their governments. They are glad that Saddam is gone. These politicians need to have the courage of their convictions. Edwards is right. If they think that this war is wrong. They should vote to defund it now that they are in power. But they won't; not now anyway. Not because they don't believe that it should be done but because it would be political suicide right now. Ms. Pelosi has said this is the first of many resolutions on Iraq. Personally since it a nonbinding resolution I think their time and our money would be better spent working on other legislation. And BTW if they want to be Commander-in-Chief, they need to run and be elected. There is only one Commander-in-Chief for a reason. He is the President of the United States.

Sharon, Unfortunately for our poor soldiers, President Bush rushed into the war, devastated a country, and did not have the time nor the resources early on to do the job that needed to be done. The Democrats will never vote to cut funding for the on going effort, but they feel that increasing our military presence there will only give the Iraquis more excuses for not doing their responsibility.

Mr. Edwards is stating honestly what the Democrats want to do. They must turn this into Vietnam. And yes, our troops could be left in the field with "blanks". I believe that if this country had backed this President and the troops 100% that we would have complete control of Baghdad and Iraq now. As soon as Saddam was toppled and Bush looked strong, out came the media and politicians giving hope to every despite in the world. Even Mookie has left town, fearing the new offensive. He must not have gotten the "do not worry - we will make sure this fails too" memo from those who Blame America First Crowd.
