It all began backstage at the Golden Globes -- Grey's Anatomy, Isaiah Washington called his costar, T.R. Knight a "faggot" and since then, another outbreak has occurred. The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation demanded an apology from Isaiah Washington for his comments. And in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that aired on Wednesday, Knight confirmed that Washington had used the slur and said that hearing it prompted him to publicly come out as gay.
In response to all of this, Washington made his public apology:
"I know the power of words, especially those that demean. I realize that by using one filled with disrespect I have hurt more than T.R. and my colleagues. With one word, I've hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted. I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I've opened."
Uh... hmm... Sound familiar?
Moving on... while attending a news conference for the opening of The Departed in Japan this week, Leonardo DiCaprio recently said that director Martin Scorsese deserved to win an Oscar for his latest flick.
"It would be wonderful if this film was rewarded, I think it very much deserves it," said DiCaprio. "And I certainly think the man to my left [Scorsese] does. It's quite long overdue, almost a practical joke at this point that that hasn't happened."
A comment that I often say about DiCaprio. Both men are way ahead of their game and deserved an Oscar long ago.
In other news, although James Brown's will omitted his five-year-old son with Tomi Rae Hynie as well as Hynie herself, it's not as terrible as it sounds. The document was signed 10 months BEFORE the child's birth and more than a year before Brown got involved with Hynie. Hopefully, his other six children who were mentioned in the will can help their youngest brother and mom out.
Meanwhile, a judge had no intention of helping Jerry Seinfeld and ordered the comedian to pay a real estate broker $100,000 as commission on a $3.95 million home he and his wife, Jessica, bought in Manhattan in February 2005. Seinfeld's argument was that the broker didn't deserve the commission.
However, Usher probably figured he deserved the 20 hours of community service and $425 fine for speeding in a July 4 incident in Georgia. Had he not been going 103 mph, maybe he'd be more reluctant to take the 20 hours but in this case, he's a happy man.
Until tomorrow, that's a wrap! Happy weekend everyone!
Misstery, Isaiah apologized. Whether or not he was sincere, no one but Isaiah and God knows. I say: forgive him and move on. Also, if you cannot find it in your heart to forgive him for his mistake, why don't you think about all the hurtful, mean-spirited, cruel things you've said about people? And then, think about the times you've attempted to make amends with the people you've hurt, only to have the door slammed in your face, so to speak.
If you can't forgive Isaiah for his sake, then forgiven him for your sake. Bitterness and unforgiveness are unpleasant, destructive thing to hold on to.
Also, I'm sick and tired of hearing about the comments Michael Richards and Mel Gibson made. They, like Isaiah Washington, apologized. Move on and drop it, already!

I agree that both Scorsese & DiCaprio deserve oscars!

I feel that the recent performance by Isaiah Washington back stage at the Golden Globes continues a disturbing trend of hateful self absorbed stars freely spewing there own prejudices with no consequences. First we hear Washington started a fight with one co-star, apparently not his first fight, and then we hear he called T.R. Knight a fagot. Then he denies it in the most inappropriate place and way, only further showing his insensitive self promoting ways. Then we hear on “Ellen” that he did say it. So he’s violent, hateful, prejudice and dishonest. If he was on Lost they would have killed off his character by now. The thing Washington has in common with Mel Gibson and Michael Richards, besides rage, aggression, hate, and prejudice is they are all incredibly arrogant. That’s a lot of character flaws. I love the show and hope that you will show the character that the fans and the rest of the cast deserve and send a message that this kind of intolerance has no place on your show. All prejudice is the same.
