Today, Governor Bobby Jindal was joined by Department of Transportation and Development Secretary Bill Ankner, State Senator Jody Amedee, and State Representative Nickie Monica to announce the extension of La 3213 from the VeteransMemorialBridge to La 3127, which will play a key role in the state’s long-range hurricane evacuation plan.
Governor Bobby Jindal said, “This road completion is another important step to strengthening infrastructure in St. James and St. John Parishes and will make the area even more attractive to existing Louisiana businesses working to expand or out-of-state companies looking to do business here. Legislators and local officials have worked closely with the state to identify this as an important transportation need, and the completion of this project phase is a key part of aiding the area's future economic development."
DOTD celebrated the opening of the extension at 10:30 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, hosted by DOTD Legislative Liaison Roy Quezaire. Other speakers included State Senator Jody Amedee and State Representative Nickie Monica.
“The extension of La. 3213 from the VeteransMemorialBridge to La. 3127 provides another hurricane evacuation route for our citizens on the West Bank and parishes farther south,” said DOTD Secretary William D. Ankner, Ph.D. “It also provides an economic boost for the parishes of St. James and St. John.”
The 4.56-mile extension includes two 12-foot lanes with 10-foot shoulders and turn lanes to La. 3127 at its new intersection with La. 3213. Construction on the $15.2-million project began in October 2006.
Dear StrongConcrete: Does that refer to your head? Reminds me of my dad. He use to call us "Concrete" when we didn't listen as children. How many times can you say, ..."but then again...or "matter of fact". I think you could have thought about it and written what you wanted in a shorter amount of time and space instead of rambling on. Most of us here, the average Joe or Jane as you say just want us to get what our city and state needs to recover and not to be slighted. I realize that many in this city have grown up with the mentallity that they were taught by the Democrats that everything is everybodies fault and that someone OWES them. But fortunately that is not all of us. I think we all need to remember that even the fires in California only involved 2000 homes not over 200,000 as what happended here in Louisiana. And Steve thanks for the story on Jindal and Blanco, but I think the word you meant to use to describe Kathleen should have been "gracious", not "graceful". I doubt poor Kathleen was ever graceful.
