On Monday, June 30, 2008, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Steven Preston will tour the C.J. Peete, Abundance/Desire and River Garden housing developments in New Orleans.

Preston and the Urban League of Greater New Orleans will participate in a ground breaking ceremony for a new state-of-the-art child and family development center to be located on land donated by the Housing Authority of New Orleans in the Abundance/Desire community.  Finally, Secretary Preston will visit a homeowner at River Garden who used housing voucher assistance to become a homeowner.  

 

New Orleans Roads

Mayor C. Ray Nagin and the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works will host a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the start of the 7th roadway project in New Orleans East since Hurricane Katrina. Road work on Redwood Street between Grant Street and the Dwyer Canal, and Sandalwood Street between Hammond Street and the Dwyer Canal will last approximately 10 months. 

 

 

The project will cover 3,880 feet (.7 miles) of roadway at an estimated cost of $4.5 million, which will be funded through the 2000 Capital Bond Fund. In addition, $2.1 million will be funded by the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans for subsurface utilities reconstruction.

 

Archdiocese

DeepNines Technologies, a leader in integrated security solutions designed to actively control emerging Internet threats, today announced that their iTrust security platform was selected by another leading school district the Archdiocese of New Orleans which provides network services and online access to over 46,000 students.

 

Striker Oil

 

Striker Oil & Gas, Inc. announces that it has identified and is working to high grade a potential new oil prospect to a 4th quarter 2008-1st quarter 2009 drilling project adjacent to its current leasehold acreage in the Abbeville Field, Vermillion Parish, Louisiana using its previously acquired 60 square mile 3-D seismic survey. This is the second prospect developed from this shoot with the first being a deeper prospect located in West Abbeville Field with potential reserves of 10-15 BCF of natural gas. Both prospects are in the verification stage and land leases are being checked for availability

The Abbeville Field is a complexly faulted anticline with approximately 20 different producing horizons ranging in depth from 4,000 to 15,000 feet. With the aid of a modern 3D seismic survey Striker is looking to exploit its current leasehold position and areas within the seismic coverage area for additional drilling opportunities within this known prolific productive area discovered in 1937 by Continental Oil (Conoco-Phillips).

The Abbeville Field has been under continuous development since its discovery with cumulative production to date of 14 million barrels of oil and 159 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

Barnes & Noble

Barnes & Noble, Inc. the bookseller, announced it has signed a lease agreement to open a new Barnes & Noble bookstore in Slidell, Louisiana. The bookstore, expected to open in spring 2010, will be located in The Summit Fremaux at the intersection of I-10 and Fremaux Avenue. The store will stock close to 200,000 book, music, DVD and magazine titles and include a café serving Starbucks coffee.

Gas Prices

According to the AP, for 12 hours today, Giles Nissan marketing director Herb Montalbano says the community has been good to owner Bob Giles and Giles likes to give back so the dealership's will sell gas for $.99 cents from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

H&R Block

Tax preparer H&R Block Inc said on Monday it hit a quarterly profit beating estimates hitting revenue 11 percent higher.
