The New Orleans Hornets announced today that they will play seven preseason games prior to their Oct. 29 season opener at Golden State, highlighted by the team’s two games in Europe as part of NBA Europe Live presented by EA Sports.

The Hornets will battle the Washington Wizards on Oct. 14 at the O2 World in Berlin, Germany

. The game will be one of the first major sporting events held at the state of the art new arena that opened last fall. The teams will close out NBA Europe Live on Oct. 17 at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain.

Following NBA Europe Live 2008, NBA teams will have played 48 games in 18 different cities in Europe over the past two decades. Last year’s seven NBA Europe Live games drew more than 10.3 million viewers, 75,000 spectators and were supported by 23 marketing partners.

“It is an honor for us to be playing in NBA Europe Live and we couldn’t be more thrilled to showcase our great talent on a world stage,” Hornets owner George Shinn said. “Our preseason schedule also has us giving our home fans in New Orleans two games to see our 2008-09 team before the regular season. The Mobile game gives us the unique opportunity to play in a city close by Louisiana with built-in fan interest for the Hornets.”

The preseason schedule includes two games at the New Orleans Arena.  The team will host the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 6:00 p.m. and the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m.

In addition to their home preseason games at the New Orleans Arena, the Hornets will stay in the Gulf South and host Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat on Oct. 23 at the USA Mitchell Center in Mobile at 7:30 p.m.

The Hornets will visit Indiana (Oct. 8) and San Antonio (Oct. 10) during the preseason.

Information on individual game tickets for Hornets preseason and regular season games will be released later this month.  Season tickets are available by calling (504) 525-HOOP or by logging on to Hornets.com.

Health and Education

The Department of Health and Hospitals is sponsoring an extensive outreach campaign throughout the months of August and September as part of its annual Back-to-School enrollment drive.

Statewide efforts will focus on informing the public about the availability of public health coverage for uninsured children through the Louisiana Children’s Health Insurance Program (LaCHIP), the LaCHIP Affordable Plan and other Medicaid programs.

LaCHIP and the LaCHIP Affordable Plan are available for uninsured Louisiana children age 18 and under. Families with income at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level - about $3,534 per month for a family of four - can secure health coverage for their children at no cost through LaCHIP.  With LaCHIP Affordable Plan, families with income between 200 percent and 250 percent of the FPL - up to $4,417 for a family of four - can purchase health coverage for a $50 monthly premium, plus co-payments.

The Back-to-School outreach will cover the state, with LaCHIP representatives participating in events held at schools, stores, churches and community centers. Workers will be distributing information about various health coverage programs; processing LaCHIP; LaCHIP Affordable Plan and Medicaid applications; renewing coverage for families that need to update their contact information; and providing information on eligibility determinations when possible.

LaCHIP will also extend its state coverage by increasing hours for its toll-free hotline, 1-877-2LaCHIP (1-877-252-2447). Operators will be available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The new hotline hours began on Monday, August 4 and will run throughout the month of August.

Open the attachment to see a list of events taking place across the state as part of the Back-to-School efforts by LaCHIP.  In addition to the following dates and locations, applications and renewal forms are available online at www.lachip.org or by calling the toll-free LaCHIP hotline at (877) 2LaCHIP(252-2447).
