Again, Louisiana David Vitter Should Resign

Written by: Stephen Sabludowsky

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

For the good of the Republican Party and the Louisiana, U.S. Senator David Vitter should resign as US Senator.

When this scandal first broke, I called for the resignation of Vitter and repeated that I had also urged for William Jefferson’s resignation because both had consuming personal matters and both were seriously damaging Louisiana’s reputation.   I also suggested that Governor Blanco appoint a Republican in Vitter’s place.  I have little doubt that a Republican would win that office should an election for that seat occur.

While the Wendy Cortez “Ellis” lie detector test arranged by Larry Flynt is not legal proof that Vitter had the type of affair that the prostitute is alleging, it raises many disturbing issues.  Edward Gelb former president of the American Polygraph Association, signed a statement saying Cortez passed a polygraph test administered by him.  While Ellis’s motives can be questioned, Gelb’s affidavit concerning his test is outright damaging.

Also, Janet Maier, the Canal Street Madam recently said in public that David Vitter was a client of her brothel.  When I recently asked her in front of a public audience whether Vitter had sex, she replied that her brothel did not give it away.

After the story broke this week concerning Larry Flynt, Wendy “Cortez” Ellis and the lie detector test, Vitter’s spokesperson, Joel Digrado, said "Vitter and his wife have addressed all of this very directly."

Oh Yea?

Very directly?  Get real.

I was at the news statement this summer and said the next day, David Vitter did not answer squat.  The only thing “direct” was a stilted apology from Vitter, broad attacks and denial of local allegations, and an emotional appeal by his wife (another Wendy), to leave them alone and then out-of-the door they scooted.

In fact, before departing, he said the stories and reporting by the local media were “not true”.

He did not state which “local stories” or reporting was not true.  Prior to that canned news speech, there was a front page Times Picayune story describing Vitter’s relationship with Wendy Cortez Ellis.  Also, at that time, the Canal Street Madam disclosed to reporters that Vitter was a client.

So, which story was Vitter referring?  Maier’s allegations?   The TP story?  We don’t know because he has never squarely or even come close to answering anything.  Instead, he called the local stories and reporting “falsehoods” and said he was not going to “answer endless questions about it all over again again, again, again and again”.

For his spokesperson to say Vitter answered any questions is plainly laughable.

David Vitter had been asked on two occasions about his relationship with Wendy Cortez and he denied it in 2004 and then presumably denied the story in his press statement, in 2007.  Nor did he say if any part of those stories—Maier or Cortez Ellis were in any way true.  No.  All we received were denials, attacks on his enemies and the media, his using God and his wife as his willing wife as shield and a full court-press by political operatives to rehabilitate his reputation, and talking points which emanated from a US Senate computer.

By not disclosing any facts, by suggesting that it is all poppycock, his own behavior is insulting to his constituents.

David Vitter is hurting the Republican Party, in both Louisiana and throughout the United States just as William Jefferson is hurting the Democratic Party and Louisiana.  The longer they stay in office, the more both parties and the State of Louisiana are tainted.  In the case of Jefferson, should he beat the rap, he can run again for re-election and let the voters decide.  As far as Vitter, his refusal to answer any questions regarding the Canal Street brothel or about Wendy Cortez is the epitome of hypocrisy given his constant “outing” by him of others whenever he could make political “hay”.  Plus, we all now know about his statement comparing Bob Livingston’s resignation to being just basis for Bill Clinton to also resign.  Vitter than ran for Livingston’s seat, and won.

The bottom line is Vitter can be very specific regarding which story is false or what part of either story is true.

In both 2004 and 2007, he engaged in a transparent job of lawyering for his own cause and to save his political career.  The more vague his statements, the less he says, the more “wiggle room” he has—again, again, again and again.   That is not enough for the public who trusted him.  It is also not fair to the many Republicans who came to his aide in an that orchestrated show of support.  Now, they look like fools and some are running for office this season.

This matter is not a question of sex from years ago.  The issue here is telling the truth when he ran for office and this summer. The issue is the incredible embarrassment he continues to inflict upon Louisiana.  The issue is that prostitution is a crime.  The statute of limitations is irrelevant.  We are talking about our US Senator and a crime.

Also, this is not a republican versus democratic issue.  David Vitter has become a national laughing stock, is becoming incredibly ineffective in Congress and a Republican will surely replace him.  Like his fellow federal elected official from Louisiana, they should leave us alone until they get their own respective personal lives together.   In the words of a very high Republican official who talked to me under the conditions of confidentiality “David Vitter is just about David Vitter”.

Let’s get one thing very straight.  David Vitter is not about Louisiana and in no respect is Louisiana about David Vitter.  That should be addressed very directly—again, again, again and again.

Do you think it helps Louisiana image for David Vitter name to keep coming up in every sex scandal the republican have now.Is Fox news picking on David Vitter when they mention it looks like it was ok with the republican party, for a heterosexual encounter but not for a homosexual encounter. The truth is that David Vitter not resigning has hurt the republican party image. The truth is that David Vitter, not resigning paved the way for Larry Craig to stay in office.Vitter Lied, about his family values and morals. He lied when he claimed to clinton,no man who cheats on his wife is fit to serve in office and should resign. No matter the excuses people come up with,David Vitter made his on bed and nobody would be talking about him,if he had not lied about his high false morals. Now Larry Craig is not stepping down because of Vitter. He knows the republicans will be in trouble if they go after him to resign. The only difference between the two is Vitter used a woman instead of Craig using a man.

Written by Diaperman on 10/8/2007

Didn't Vitter praise Livingston for doing a lot worse. Prostitution is a crime and so is aiding and abetting a prostitute.

Written by Righteous on 9/28/2007

Stephen - for visiting a prostitute you are willing to throw away anybody's political career or just Vitter's. Is this now going to be the standard? Wow! I just don't believe it. If you don't like Vitter or what he did - fine - just don't vote for him. But if visiting a prostitute is all it takes then god help us. I guess will be throwing people out of office for smoking weed - well just those that inhale.

Written by John on 9/26/2007

Vitter's case is no different from that of Larry Craig except that Craig's accusation included homosexual behavior. Vitter did break laws regarding prostitution, although he won't be prosecuted because he wasn't literally "caught in the act". No matter, our homophobic society and the Senate will expunge one member for "waving and foot-touching" while hypocritically turning a blind eye towards out and out sleaze who was so sex-deprived at home that he had to visit brothels in New Orleans and Washington. Yes, that's something he and his wife have to work out, but mean while his attempts to find surrogates led him to committing adultery and illegally visiting prostitutes in two cities that we know. A previous poster includes Ted Kennedy in an attempt to write that Vitter is no different than presidents and genuine senators, but please show one bit of evidence to show that Ted Kennedy is sex-obsessed. Lyndon Johnson? There is no evidence to that fact, just as there is no evidence that his accident killing Mary Jo Kopechne was anything other than a DWI. Republicans are scared to death of Teddy because they know he's been a solid, effective voice of reason in support of the less fortunate in our country. He also happens to be the most widely liked and respected senator from bth sides of the aisle. Right-wing types are paranoid about many things and Ted Kennedy is one of them. This, of course, has absolutely nothing to do with Vitter but people with weak arguments try to obscure the issue with unrelated side matters. Vitter is the topic and Vitter should remain the topic, not only on web postings, but in the national media and in the Senate. A resolution to censure or expel should be brought in Vitter's case, and if he were a decent person - he is not, just ask his wife - concerned for the State of Louisiana and the dignity of the Senate he would resign forthwith. Since he won't, he should be made to leave. We people of Louisiana suffer scorn and derision, mostly out of ignorance but with some justification, and Vitter's stubborn hold on his office adds to an unfortunate view that nothing can be down here to improve our lot. Needless to say, we need more respect for the good we are doing for ourselves and get more help from the federal government for what still must be done. Let's also look at how effective Landrieu has been in that regard. We need better representation all around, and that means senators who will fight tooth and nail for us, not just a another rubber stamp for the Bush/Cheney War machine. Just think, how much money might have been available if we weren't just throwing it away in Iraq in a blood for oil war. When was the last time an Iraqi did something to you? Not on 9/11 that's for sure. We've lost brave and dutiful troops for two men who avoided what many of us couldn't, and now they play fast and loose with the lives of the innocent to protect the interests of their oil profiteering friends. And what does this have to do with freedom or any national interest? Nothing more than jingoistic rah-rah ego gratification for two impotent and venal rich guys trying to "fill the ol' coffers".

why should vitter resign? his headline fits in with all the other idiot politicians, hippocrate headlines, in this state. i guess i am the only person that has seen the latest gubernut excuse me gubernatorial race ad with the old lady claiming bobby j thru her bro in the street ? (i would be ashamed to say i hadnt seen/visited him ....did walter b know this thing was going to air??? we are the laughing stock of the nation - not to mention the jena 6 - how sad that all those people couldnt raise bond for those kids. not one "peacemaker" called for a meeting to mend that town. they just want to spout, cry , and cause even more discord - that is what is wrong with this nation, and then so called 'leaders' like sharpton and jesse - it is all about them... their agenda, people dont even realize they are just being used for their own agenda. if you truly were outraged, you would want all to heal - we all have to live on this planet together - 2 wrongs dont make a right. not ever. i am ashamed of all of em. hanging a noose is ridiculous. wanting to punch someone's lights out i understand, but TURN THE OTHER CHEEK AND PRAY... PRAY PRAY... FOR YOUR ENEMY... KEEP EM CLOSER. MOTHER THERESA SAID ' SHE LOVED HER ENEMY NOT FOR THEM OR HER BUT FOR HIM....' i AM NOT black but am white, but it hurts me just as much to smile at a black, and they not smile back - that noose disgusts me! but a fist and hateful heart hurts us all too. i have some very good friends that are black and white. and i know idiots in both races... when you peel us all back we are all the same - we cry , we bleed, and we all hurt the same. dont help the devil and terrorists. dont feed those demons. starve em...

Dan I would guess Anonymous, is changing the subject because he knows Vitter made his own little mess.Notice Bobby Jindaal does not want to change, or even talk about Vitter. Now we know, if the great Bobby Jindal does not want anything to do with Vitter, something must be wrong with Vitter. No matter what anyone says,we all know,Vitter is a lame duck as a senator now.Now if Vitter is so moral and high standing, just have him take the same lie detector test .David Vitter take the same lie detector test, as your hooker and show us who is telling the truth.

Written by Diaperman on 9/20/2007

livewirelandry, do you defend senator Larry Craig, as much as you do Vitter. Also how Moral is Vitter, for risking bringing home aids to his wife and family. Now if you are so proud of David Vitter, can I take it you will be asking him to legalize prostition. If it is moral enough for Vitter it should be moral enough for everyone..No matter how you try to look at it,Vitter smells of something..No one would be talking about this,if Vitter had not made his own little mess..Then again maybe Vitter wife, preferred to send him to a hooker, that way her hands were clean.

Written by Diaperman on 9/20/2007

Anonymous: NO, I did not create the anti-Jindal website. You should stop listening to liars like "4unionparish", "trotsky", or others like them. I have not made a decision on who I am supporting in this governors race. This is the most important election that Louisiana will have in a very long time and I do not think it wise to rush to support a candidate. The candidate who earns my vote will have to prove to me that he is the best in the race. But why are you bringing up the Governors race on a thread that has to do with VITTER and his inability to follow his own standards of conduct?

Written by Dan on 9/18/2007

Shame on you, Steve, for playing along with that scumbag, pedophile Flyntt who is also morally inept like all hardcore liberals! I happily voted for Vitter and will do so again. If the liberal sitting senators had ANY moral courage, they would vocifoursly rebuke that homewreaking piece-of-crap publicly and often. One really great thing about Vitter is his very forgiving and HONORABLE wife.

Written by livewirelandry on 9/17/2007

Did you create the anti-Jindal website? I also want the best so give me your opinion as to whom the best candidate is and who is more lkely to get elected, please. Do you believe that your favorite would have the integrity and tenacity to not let an Alario, Doc Hines or some other self serving politician to dictate? By the way is Alario a Democrat or Republican? Is Hines a Democrat or Republican? Why don't you, me and others get as negative about the people such as that like the Gary Beard's, The Richard Smith who helped his nephew get a $200 Million dollar FEMA trailer contract, John Alario's. Even if your favorite gets elected there will still be the self serving do nothings that all of us ignore. They are the one's who are greater threats to us than any Governor.

Written by Anonymous on 9/17/2007

Where have I discussed Jindal on this thread? Conservatives tend to not be joking when they bring up Kennedy, Clinton, and Frank as their good ole stand by arguments whenever one of their own does something immoral and is proved to be a hypocrite and a liar. It is pathetic and sad. Vitter has made himself an ineffective senator by failing to live up to his own standards. And why is it an "obsession"? I am passionate about politics, I want only the best for my state and Jindal is not it.

Written by Dan on 9/17/2007

Glad that you could get a laugh, as I believe that you need it. You need to take time out to laugh from your anti Jindal obsession.

Written by Anonymous on 9/17/2007

Pointing out the difference in the Ted Kennedy issue and the Vitter issue is not defending Kennedy. Pointing out the flawed logic that Republicans always use to defend their own (i.e. "BUT CLINTON DID IT TOO" or "BUT WHAT ABOUT KENNEDY" or "WHAT ABOUT BARNEY FRANK") is not defending Kennedy. Nor did I say he is innocent (nor would I suggest that claiming that one hasnt done wrong is proof that the person is innocent, Democrat or Republican). However, Vitter admitted to wrongdoing and should be judged on HIS OWN actions and HIS OWN statements, not the statements and actions of others. So whenever social conservatives defend their social conservative politicians by trying to bring up the alleged wrongdoings of others, I have to laugh at them and point out their failure of logic.

Written by Dan on 9/17/2007

Dan, NO I am not the ignorant clown that called the Northshore morning show. There are at least two people in Louisiana who notice and point out the fact that Democrats can be hypocrits also. Unlike you who can so easily defend Ted Kennedy, Democrat,by saying that he admitted no wrongdoing about the dead body in his car, therefore because he did not admit wrongdoing, he is innocent. You should be an attorney. I admit David Vitter is a liar and a hypocrit. You can read about a dead body in the back of someone's car, the person admits that they were driving that car that had the dead body in it and then you ( as an attorney would) 2 plus 2 does ot equal four. Just for my information, using your reasoning, if a Democrat does wrong and does not admit to it, wrongdoing did not take place?

Stephen,I keep thinking about your words here.,While the Wendy Cortez “Ellis” lie detector test arranged by Larry Flynt is not legal proof that Vitter had the type of affair that the prostitute is alleging, it raises many disturbing issues. Edward Gelb former president of the American Polygraph Association, signed a statement saying Cortez passed a polygraph test administered by him. While Ellis’s motives can be questioned, Gelb’s affidavit concerning his test is outright damaging,..Now after thinking about this,I have to ask will Senator Vitter take the same lie detector test by Edward Gelb former president of the American Polygraph Association..It would help Vitter if he could pass the same test by the same person..This could be Vitters chance to put up or shutup..

Frank Meyer ,do you welcome senator Larry Craig to stay with the republican party. All he did was try to get lucky in the men's room with another man.Why kick this man out for just playing footsies in the men's bathroom?Tell me why you protect the man who hires a hooker but not the man who just plays footsies with other men.Tell me how the republican party blames others when they get for false morals. No,just tell me how it is O.K. for some Republicans to be perverts, because they are republicans.

Written by Diaperman on 9/14/2007

Do you expect people to believe, that when Vitter breaks one law he will not break another law.How do we know our tax money did not pay for the hooker. When he lied about family values he lost all credibility.Any man who will risk bringing,AIDS,home to his wife and kids by laying with a Hooker has no credibility at all.Vitter put his family in Danger of catching,AIDS, from a Hooker and you want me to believe he will protect his voters. He was fully aware he was building a career on lies, and that did not bother him until he got caught. He is not going to pee,on my leg and tell me it is raining.

Written by Diaperman on 9/14/2007

9-14-2007 The fact is that David Vitter has represented Louisiana extremely well. The comment that he is hurting Louisiana is absurd. I am a Louisiana businessman who had worked with Senator Vitter and he does care about this state in spite of what is perceived as a "bannana republic" in the rest of the country. Your state legislators should be your main concern. Senator Vitter is not stealing money or basking in kickback deals. Some of the worst sexual deprived governmental figures obessed with sex were John F, Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Ted Kennedy, Thomas Jefferson, and many others. They continued to be elected by their citizens state wide and nationally. Can you honestly say that John Kennedy was not an effective President? Maybe we need to understand that Larry Flynt is an unrepented sleezy Democrat who has always pursued Republican office holders. He never went after any Democarts to date. Better think long and hard and ask yourself is David Vitte doing his job for Louisiana? I think Senator Vitter has gotten the message now, so let's stand up, forgive him, and rally behind him. He is a very capable politican, Republican, and repented. It is time to stop folks.

Written by Frank Meyer on 9/14/2007

Google long republican sex list and you will know why the republicans do not want to change Vitter. The sad thing is that list, does not count the newest menbers to make that list. The republicans prove they do not stand by family morals many times.Bobby Jindal does not even want to change Vitter,so you know, he does not want to change Louisiana.Vitter is a lame duck and the republican party knows this, but they would rather keep a lame duck on a short leash, than take a chance Governor Blanco might put a democrat in vitters place.

Written by Diaperman on 9/14/2007

What is so sad is when scum like Flynt, tell the truth more than Senator Vitter. Now notice Vitter had no problem playing with a prostitute ,So I think we can trust Vitters own choice of person that he hangs with.If the prostitute was good enough for Vitter her word is good enough for us.The only difference between Vitter and craig, was craig choose someone for free but because it was with another man,He must go.

Written by Diaperman on 9/14/2007

Stephen- This is just another proof that you are a closet, liberal Democrat. You continually disparage Bobby Jindal, and now David Vitter. Yet I never hear from you about any Democrat shortcomings, crimes, etc. You are a joke and have no credibility!

Before we get on anyone-Why are we all letting a publisher of a porn magazine and a prostitute tell us how to run our government or what politicians we nedd to get rid of Flynt & this prostitute Wendy have no right telling anyone what to do with the amount of smut and trash they put in front of the world everyday. These two people are nothing but garbage and if we stoop this low in La to listen to trash and I mean white trash garbage tell us what to do we have no hope in this state for anything getting any better here. Trash is trash and the trash needs to go in the garbage and the rest of he world needs to go on-Gt rid or Flynt & the prostitute and give people who have asked for forgiveness a chance

Written by CM Denham on 9/14/2007

It would seem when a senator who built his career on being better than everyone else. Then get`s caught in a lie about what he believes in and to top that off, get`s caught with a hooker. That Senator David Vitter would seem to lose all credibility.

Written by Diaperman on 9/14/2007

For all the people who say you can not trust a hooker, but you can trust the self righteous man that lays with a hooker. You can trust the man who only said, I am guilty of a past sin,but I will not tell you what it is all about. The man who lied and covered it up, and only admitted hours before he knew it was hitting the media.I guess if Vitter pees on your leg,you will defend him by saying it is raining. If you defend Vitter for his low ethics of breaking the law,do not lie and say you want Louisiana to change. You support Vitter, than admit your throwing all ethics out the window, because as long as he is a republican that's all that matters.Vitter made his own bed and now he needs to lay in it,without the hooker this time.

Written by Diaperman on 9/14/2007

Are the results of polygraphs acceptable as evidence in civil and criminal courts? As far as I know, there is no 100% concensus among law enforcement and legal professionals as to the reliability of polygraph results. Personally, I would not go solely by the results of a polygraph examination (lie detector test) in determining the "veracity" of someone's statements.

Written by Stephen C on 9/14/2007

Anon: Kennedy never admitted to doing something, has never been found guilty of doing anything, and has never said that people in his situation should resign. Barney Frank is not committng any crime by being a homosexual, so I have no idea why that is relevant to this discussion. And he has never admitted guilt to those claims of knowing that a prostitution service was being run out of his house. The House Ethics Committee did not find any reason to believe he knew of it either. And EVEN IF THEY DID, Frank has never said that people in that position should resign. (By the way, are you the ignorant clown who called in to "Northshore mornings" this morning bringing up Barney Frank by using a slur?) VITTER, on the other hand, has admitted to wrongdoing. He admitted to having an affair. And his previous words are that people who have affairs should resign from office. So I am only holding David Vitter to HIS OWN STANDARDS OF CONDUCT that state if someone has an affair, that they should resign from office.

Written by Dan on 9/14/2007

Stephen C: It is not the prostitute that has credibility. It is the person conducting the lie detector test (i.e. the president of some national group of polygraph testers) who wouldn't risk HIS credibility by doing something shady that provided false results to help discredit a sitting US Senator. Because of that (and Vitter's admitting to his sins with those prostitutes) that we know Vitter "had sex with that woman". And Vitter's words, that if someone has an affair they should resign from office, is why I am saying that he needs to step down. Any Republican who thinks Vitter should stay in office is supporting the idea of "do as I say, not as I do".

Written by Dan on 9/14/2007

Stephen, Seems like you believe these prostitutes have credibility. I would think that they are the type of person who would be willing to say anything if you just pay them enough. In my opinion, Larry Flynt has some type of twisted political agenda that he is willing to say and do anything to push. Because of the nature of the people who are making these accusations against Vitter, I think he should ride it out and let the voters of this state decide his fate if he runs for reelection to the Senate.

Written by Stephen C. on 9/14/2007

Steve, how could you as an attorney not call for the resignation of dead body in the back seat Ted Kennedy? Yet Vitter should resign. Do you lay off of Barney because he is an admitted homosexual but allegedly broke the law by having some sort of sex service out of Congressional office? And you don't call for his resignation. Hasn't the legal limitation for prosecution expired for Vitter and Barney Frank? Would would not be showing a bias, would you? Wonder if the parents of Mary Jo who died in Poucha Pond in Ted's Kennedy car, don't feel a lessening of feelings for their daughter because of the Statuate of limitations has expired?

Written by Anonymous on 9/14/2007

Another issue as yet unraised publicly. When Vitter was consorting with Cortez/Ellis he was seeing her thrice a week at $300 a pop cash. That's $900 a week for roughly 20 weeks, or $18,000. Where did that CASH come from, his wife's dowry?

Written by wtbtlc on 9/14/2007

Written by LT on 9/14/2007

Very well said Dan, and 100 percent right.

Written by Diaperman on 9/14/2007

Listening to the radio on this issue, I am just amazed at the social conservatives who don't want Vitter to resign "yet" because they dont want Blanco naming the replacement. Seems to me that these hypocrites are willing to put party loyalty above integrity, ethics, and their supposed family values. And on the issue of Flynts "selective outing" of people. His doing that doesn't make the outing any less credible. You may not like that he is going after Republicans but the way he sees it, he is going after people who hold themselves up on "high moral pedestals". Why would flynt go after someone who is not campaigning on the "moral" issues?

Written by Dan: on 9/14/2007

As a staunch Democrat, I am for letting Vitter stay in until re-election time, when the Great Democrat, Chris John, will force him to retire by soundly defeating him. And, of course, other more worthy than Vitter "Republicans" will also be happy to pounce on him.........and eat him up....I predict he will finish his term in shame, and not run again. He's finished; everyone knows it,and the Republican parties at the state and national levels know that Governor Blanco would do what all Governors would do in their respective states: appoint someone from the party of their affiliation. Is Representative Jefferson guilty? His constituents have given him "the benefit of the doubt". We will have to be patient, BOTTOM LINE, until he goes to court. And we will have to abide by that decision...how ever long it takes to come. The moral crime by Vitter...is that he "wronged his wonderful, devoted wife and mother of his children; that he like too many hypocritical, goody two-shoes Republicans....run on the pretext of "family values and moral issues" as they lie through their teeth to get elected. Republicans knew about his problems while he was in the La. Legislature and still let him run. This shame was inevitable...I say "let him stay"...with that and the disastrous war this Administration in Washington fooled us into going into is going to be the "Waterloo of the Republican Party". I really cannot see how anyone can vote for a Republican at the State or National level....They vote as a block.......and then blame Democrats who Do Not always "vote as a block". The truth is ...Democrats cannot pass their initiatives because, when they do have enough votes to bring up a bill, the Republicans will see that to it that the President's veto is not over-turned!!! Well, we are beginning to see the older Republicans,,,retiring...abandoning ship, so to speak. I believe their consciences are beginning to bother them...It's high time!

Written by Audrey George on 9/14/2007

Jefferson needs to go, but notice you are comparing Vitter and Jefferson together now,That is sad. You now say, It is alright Vitter broke the law and lied to us.How dare we expect The Republican party to have Morals and ethics because of Bill clinton. How Dare we be dumb enough to have believed in Vitter ,as he lied about family values. How dare we expect Vitter, to have Ethics because we live in Louisiana. How dare we want something better, for our state and children.Sorry people,I dare and I want change in Louisiana, and Vitter has proved what he is and do not lie, to yourself about wanting change in Louisiana if you will not change Vitter.

Written by Diaperman on 9/14/2007

How can you compare a sexual scandal on his own time with stealing? Jefferson is accused of using his office to get kick backs at the taxpayers expense. Sure what Vitter did is not moral and if he lied that is even worse, but he is not a thief. I am more concerned about the message we are sending by asking for his resignation. Lets just tell the world that we are puppets for scum like Larry Flint. It is OK to use your money to bribe a former hooker and force a U S Senator out of office. Where does it stop? And of course anything that Larry Flint drums up must be the truth. We allow a man that was found with marked bills to stay in office but David Vitter must go? Why don't we allow the process to work? If the voters of Vitter's district don't like what he did - they will show their disapproval in the next election. They don't need someone in the media telling them who they should elect to represent them. We allowed "Dollar Bill" to be reelected why it Vitter not allowed the same rights under the law - "our law"?

dose it matter who you put in office it looks like they will do what they want any way,so what Vitter got a little ass on the side what did Bill C. get,How stupied do they think we are maybe not all of them will do it but I bett your ass he is not the only one.

For all of you who think Vitter should be saved because you haven't seen the full list, and hate Larry Flynt because of it, should remember why Larry Flynt went after these guys in the first place. He promised to go after the guys who were so righteous that they threw the first stone regarding Clinton. How quickly we forget. Vitter deserves to reap what he sows. Just what he did to his wife and family is lower then snake belly. Do you think because she stood by his side at the fixed press conference, she no longer suffers that shame 24/7? That's a terrible thing to do to your wife and family. They wear that shame like a cow bell. They will pay daily for what he and he alone did. After all, who do you think bought into his family values bullshit more then his own family? And he scorned and hurt many other people to perpetuate that false belief system designed to disguise his own flaws. He's not to be confused with Bill Clinton, whose act against his wife was just as bad. But he hurt so many other people to cover his behavior. He spewed his venomous rhetoric with a hateful tone meant to inflict deep hurt on his targets. And sadly the real targets turn out out be his family.....his biggest supporters. David Vitter must go. What David Vitter did was self censored him self in both his public and family life. He can't talk about dishonesty on the Senate floor anymore......he's a laughing stock. There are certain conversations he can't have with family and friends any more. No more hateful little family value statements at the Thanksgiving Dinner. No longer the BIG MAN on the "Family values" campus. Going forward we need to take a closer look at his republican comrades who support him. Particularly those who are up for re-election. I think him and Bill Jefferson could open a law firm. With 2 partners like that they could corner the market on money laundering and sexual deviant cases. With their qualifications coupled with their lack of character, they would quickly rise to the top of the scoundrel world.

Steve once again you are right on it, great job.But where was mr jim letten, and why he choose to look the other way? Maybe his name might be on some list because he is a political prostitute.Or is it he looked the other way because vitter promised him the federal prosecutors job when he get elected to the senate and a republican president get elected.

Vitter did not care about the risk of bring Aids home to his own family and you think he cares about his voters.Ask any Law offical how high the odds are for catching AIDS from a Hooker.Vitter Knew the risk and did even care about his own family.Vitter made his bed with the hooker, he needs to resign and lay in the very bed he made.

Written by Diaperman on 9/13/2007

Maybe most republicans can pretend it is alright because they forget about blaming Clinton and saying he needed to step down for the same thing. But Vitter even broke the law by hiring a hooker,Vitter risked bringing aids to his own family. So to me that was worse than Clinton..The icing on the cake to me is the Florida Republican Chairman of the St. Petersburg City Councilman who adopted 3 girls so he could sexually abuse them. You can look the other way if you want, but the republican party is not standing for family values anymore.Stay with them and show you approve of them or you can pretend it is not happing, if you want.Me I left because I no longer approve of being lied to about family values.Maybe things will not change but at least i am not fooling myself anymore. The Hooker being illegle is important to me, because he is supposed to have high ethics and was going to help change Louisiana. How high is his own Ethics if he breaks the law and lays with criminals. For all we know the taxpayer may have paid for it or he may have wrote it off on his taxes under entertainment expenses. I think the saying is do not pee on my leg and then tell me it was raining, really applies to vitter.

Anyone from Louisiana who would allow Larry Flynt to dictate what is newsworthy is most likely as stupid as many non-Louisianans ridicule us to be. If not, those demanding the resignation of a fine and effective Senator are seizing a partisan moment, or have other prurient interests that overwhelm any scintilla of good judgment and common sense. Their cry of "hypocrisy" is less than hollow, coming primarily from those who have blindly supported Bill Clinton and William Jefferson, despite actual crimes of honesty and integrity. Clinton, for example, perjured himself in grand jury testimony. A bipartisan Arkansas Bar Association recognized this when it disbarred Clinton. And Jefferson's "honorable explanation," supposedly forthcoming months ago, has yet to be explained, because there isn't one. Wake up, goofy liberals. And if I understand their battle cry correctly, we are supposed to take the solemn word of a convicted felon prostitute who does not (and cannot) vote, and worse (if that is possible) who was compensated and propped up by a purveyor of pornography. Of course, there was a "lie detector," so that makes it carved in stone true, if you buy into their mush. Trashball Cortez, or whatever assumed name she is using today, hit the largest jackpot of her pathetic life in Larry Flynt. And as an added bonus to her, she now can play out her dysfunctional psychopathology to an ever craving media, giving her the unhealthy attention she clearly obsesses over on a scale that she never imagined. And then, of course, there is the pornographer’s cash “reward” and other gifts that elevate her from one gutter to another. In the real world, Cortez is not a credible witness. But to liberal zealots, she apparently will do. As for the scholars who tout the reliability of lie detectors, for very good reasons, lie detectors are not admissible evidence in a court of law. This well considered and reasoned rule of law exists because lie detectors are not reliable. This rule of law was divined with a tremendous amount of consideration and deliberation. But the angry imbeciles who tout lie detector reliability in the insolated instance we have here, have agendas that have nothing to do with the truth. Finally, let’s recall that saintly Larry Flynt is behind this nonsense. At a minimum, he is not a well or stable person. Sure, he has a first amendment free speech right to say what he will, and he has the funds to pay others to say what he wants to hear. Ironically, he has those funds because fools with partisan agendas and an out of control media give him a pulpit, which in turn generates cash for his vile business concerns. But telling a lie to the media does not prestidigitate a falsehood into truth. The notion "consider the source" seems overly simplistic for even simple minds, but it applies well here. Dignifying Flynt's trash will propagate it further. But one can be certain that Flynt will not harass any amoral scum of his ilk on the Democrat, liberal side of politics. What is worse, to give any credence to Flynt perpetuates the overall harm to Louisiana. Shakespeare’s Polonius said: “To thyne own self be true, and as sure as the night follows the day, thoust can be false to no man . . .” So liberal idiots demanding David’s head, try for once to catch your panting, rabid breath, cease your own hypocrisy and move on to something more constructive for Louisiana and the Country.

T.W. you and I agree about lie detectors they are nothing more than what you say they are. Now about Jindal You know you have been on this tirade about him screwing the pooch on health care for a couple months now, and yet NO ONE has taken your lead. SO what does that mean. Well it could mean one of two things ONE: every one running for governor out there doesn't have the testicular fortitude of a dust mite, because they were in the political arena then and if you slop that mud on Jindal it gets all over them too. (Tony G, and a few others don't fall in this category because they are outsiders trying to get into the Governors chair.) TWO: Your numbers are wrong, (Look I said it was a possibility not a fact)just about everything you mention happened AFTER Jindal left and some would say that it reflects on the next guy not Jindal. Just a thought or two from an ole Jarhead.....

Written by Ole Jarhead on 9/13/2007

Dan, YES it is WRONG if he is slamming some and PROTECTING others! there is NO DOUBT in my mind that its WRONG!!!!!! Stephen my old friend while technology has gotten better it is a recognized fact that lie detectors are not infallible therefore they are still INADMISSABLE in a court of law. Pass or not its a MOOT point. We do agree though that all names should be released. GOD Sen Blanco... I think I would have to MOVE!

vitter should not resign! did PresidentClinton resign after he lied under oath. I don't believe Senator Vitter testified under oath! Why should he be held to a higher standard than the former president? He is a great senator and that is what we need.

Written by jb on 9/13/2007

Hey Stephen, I like your original post, but I have a couple of points with which I would beg to differ on your "Buzzback." First, no matter what you have been told about improved technology, lie detectors are simply anxiety detectors. As such, there are people (e.g. sociopaths) who have zero anxiety when they lie, and hence can pass any polygraph with ease. Other folks are anxious by nature and may fail a lie detector test, even when speaking the truth. The latter is a lot more common than the former, and so passing a test is generally thought to be a more reliable result than failing it. Now let's be clear - I'm not saying Wendy Cortez is lying; I have every reason to believe her side of the story - I am just saying that the 0.01% figure the polygraph advocate cites is a bit inflated... the tests are simply not that reliable. The other bone I want to pick with you is this - why should Blanco promise to appoint a Republican to replace Vitter? What the hey? She's the governor, and she's a Democrat - she should be able to appoint a Democrat in a situation like this. And why would she appoint a Republican? - it's based on the notion that a Republican will soon be elected governor? Huh? Would Schwarzenegger appoint a Democrat out of the goodness of his heart, realizing that the next governor of California will likely be a Democrat? Are you serious? And are you really so convinced that a Republican (I assume you mean Jindal) is going to win the election? Not so fast there, cowboy - Jindal has a ton of negatives, including messing up health care when he was head of DHH. I have hope for us yet. C'est tout.

I want to ignore the criminality of prostitution, as I want to ignore the criminality of homosexual behavior in Louisiana. Laws regulating sexual conduct are absurd declarations that allow entrapment and embarassment and have nothing to do with the character or virtue required to lead a community. Sexual virtue does not interest me, but social virtue is to me of immense importance. Hypocrisy and integrity are opposite social virtues, and a hypocrite can't be a person of integrity. If a person is a hypocrite, then we can't believe anything he or she says. For Jesus himself, hypocrisy was a great sin. For me, it's a great insult. David Vitter was elected on the basis of hypocritical manipulation of attitudes toward other people who were doing the same thing he was doing. The sexual conduct of Bill Clinton and Bob Livingstone had nothing to do with their ability to lead. David Vitter's hypocrisy makes him untrustworthy as a leader.

Written by Robert Desmarais Sullivan on 9/13/2007

Technology has changed the use of lie detectors. This chance of this lie detection being was was .001 and was performed by a person with significant credentials. As far as all of the names of the Johns, ask Jim Letten and Harry Connick why those people were not prosecuted. I had said many moons ago, what is good for the gander is good for the goose. The names should have been revealed and the politicians and business people should have been prosecuted--democrats and republicans. As far as Clinton, I also urged that he resign and then urged again after he lied under oath. The point I am making here is simple. The Vitter press event was very scripted and pathetic. He says everyone else is lying. Read the notes from the Senate computer which I linked to. This was all orchestrated to a T and by his operatives. Vitter has not answered anything. He has not made any admissions other than sinning. he gets outed, says I sinned, goes into hiding and the viciously attacks those who want the truth--whether those people wanting the truth are democrats, republicans or indies. What did he say he sinned about? And yes, knowing David Vitter, I would take the oath of a professional who administered a lie detector test over our Senator. Let him take the lie detector test administered by the same person and let it be televised. He owes Louisiana the truth. Not flim flam which is what we have received from the worse hypocrite who I believe he lied to us in 2004 and covered up in 2007. As far as Republicans, I wrote that Governor Blanco should appoint a Republican. In an election, a Republican will win statwide, so there is no downside or little downside risk for the state GOP. If they want to go down with the Vitter ship, that is up to them. I say, let them make a deal with Governor Blanco to appoint a Republican chosen by the GOP leadership. The bottom line is, we are talking about a crime, whether prosecutable now or not. This is not a family affair. This is a crime, he is our Senator, he does not have the guts to take a single question from the media. What does all of that tell you? Remember, he is a public servant--not a private person who according to two women and a person issuing a lie detector test said he acted in a certain way that we know is criminal. If we are going to clean ship, let us make it squeaky clean. I might believe him only after he answers questions from the media and from the public. That he has not done and too much of a coward to do so.

Wendy, in her own words, in the same breath said she was a lier. Listen to her speech. She has no credability. I can believe she believes her owne lies. Larry Flynn is a convicted fellon. What kind of people are you using for establishing David Vitter has lied. Think about it. They tried to take Vitter down before. This is the second round. Larry had to put more emphsis on this attempt, ie. the lie detector. You know this machine is not infalable. Then we look at the alternatives. Should Vitter resign, could not,"God forbid", the La. Governor could appoint herself to fill out his term. "Senator Blanco". This would give the democrats one more seat in the US Senate and we would be jumping out of the fry pan into the fire.

No resignation for David Vitter. Did William Jefferson or Bill Clinton have to resign? Our President, who should set an example for all, shamed this country with his behavior and stay in office. I guess it was ok since he is a Democrat. Well, I am Democrat and I think it was himiliating to say the least. I think David Vitter should stay where he is & continue working for this state. Sherry

Larry Flynt should release the names of all. If one is guilty, then they all are. Why pick & chose? Besides, who is he to pass judgement. At least, David Vitter was not cheating on his wife with an employee in his office on Company time. Seems to me there are a different set of rules for Democrats (I'm a registered democrat). Now, let's move on & see those other names or shut up.

Vitter is a shame, a disgrace, and probably the most hypocritical "public servant" in national office. The same "family values" Vitter, in 1998, said that Bob Livingston needed to resign. Then Rep. Livingston was not chasing whores consistently and repeatedly as a matter of lifestyle, as Vitter has shown himself to be. The Republican Party has shown its duplicitous hypocritical nature by throwing Sen. Craig of Idaho under the bus, but protecting Vitter like a mother sheltering her child. The reason and the only reason is because a republican governor would appoint Craig's successor and a democratic governor would appoint the whoremonger Vitter's successor. Those who protect Vitter live in a world of nothing but pure spin 24/7/365--issues like consistency and character are utterly irrelevant to them. To compound Vitter's shame and sheer lack of character, he lied about having $300 an hour sex with hookers on radio programs. David loves Wendy---the question is which one does he love the most---Vitter or Cortez? Dollar Bill Jefferson is another "public servant" who has enriched himself at the public trough for nearly all of his adult life. He, like Vitter, has no shame whatsoever and lives by the motto that "the ends completely and totally justify the means." There was a time when such blatant stealing and public corruption would be an embarassment and a source of shame. As a teacher, I see the same mindset in Jefferson and Vitter that I do in grade school children--"I'm a victim, not a perpetrator."---blame someone else. Jefferson says he cannot get a "fair trial" except in Washington D.C. He's a "victim" because the trial will be in Virginia. The spirit and legend of "Fast Eddie(Edwards)" is alive and well in Dollar Bill Jefferson---he apparently learned from the best.

Sen. David Vitter should resign, even though, unlike Rep. Jefferson, he hasn't been indicted or even charged with a crime, much less a felony. Being involved with a prostitute is grounds for being charged with a felony, as we've all learned from watching CNN, CourtTV, and other news shows. Vitter's only "regret" is that he's been found out, thanks DC madam Jennifer Palfrey's disclosure that his name is in her address book, and her disclosing his phone records, and that he now has to face all of us, whether or not we're in his district, agree with his "family values" platform, or voted for him. As far as I can see, he pretty much shot his chance at working for Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign, and no self-respecting Republican would hire a (former) Senator with ties to at least one prostitute (and maybe more).

Fools r us, yes indeed - but not for the reasons in this article. Obviously the aggregious ramifications of the Alberto Gonzales Dept. of Justice Scandal was missed by most on bayoubuzz. You see, in this country, prosecutors - such as those at the Dept. of (In)Justice - have tremendous discretionary powers. Those powers are most used for political objectives because States exercise general criminal powers. Jefferson is the most senior representative of the Louisiana Congressional Delegation and Vitter has some key Committee Assignments, from which he can help our Louisiana. Our American Imperial Gov't is run from Washington D.C. and by Committees. If Vitter & Jefferson resign, the biggest loser is Louisiana's ability to represent herself where it counts, that is in D.C., where those who print the dollars are located! Our Federal Bureaucratic Gov't will spend greater than $10 Trillion dollars (yes, Trillion!) this year! Do you know how many Billions that is? And yet, there is no money to fix our oil producing coastline and the Interior Dept. continues to steal Louisiana's mineral royalties! So, to all who want to be deceived and fooled, go ahead, I and others on this site are trying to warn you.

Written by R.E. Lee on 9/13/2007

Sorry - I was responding to Mike Stevens, not Mc.Dennis. My bad.

Written by Tee Dub on 9/13/2007

Yes, they both should resign for the simple reason that their presence is a distraction at a time when Louisiana can ill-afford such distractions. And Mc.Dennis, unfortunately it's not just an affair with regard to Vitter - in my opinion that would be none of our business - it would be between him and his wife. The problem is that solicitiation of a prostitute and consorting with a prostitute are illegal, so while Vitter's alleged crime is A LOT less serious than Jefferson's, his (presumed) actions cannot be handily dismissed as "merely an affair," but (if true) are criminal.

Written by Tee Dub on 9/13/2007

Mr. Vitter has not been charged with any crime. Mr. Jefferson has been indicted by a Federal grand jury. There is no legitimate comparison here. If Vitter resigns, then Larry Flynt wins. He dragged Bob Livingston through the mud for something that he wife knew and that happened years before. He resigned because he was tired of the hazzle and had a job waiting for him. Flynt only goes after republicans. This is by design. Where is the outrage over this sleezeball? Let the people decide if someone should stay in office. As for Bill Clinton, he committed perjury. He also should have been charged with treason for giving missile technology to China for campaign contributions. The press has a very convenient memory when it comes to democrats.

Written by Alan Weber on 9/13/2007

Jefferson is a crook. Vitter had an affair on his wife and didnt want to admit it publically so he lied. What purpose would it serve for Vitter to resign? Larry Flynt is a bottom feeder. What good does he do for our country by exposing politicians? He tries to build himself up by tearing others down.

Written by Mike Stevens on 9/13/2007

Dan, we need FULL disclosure to decide going after only a select few is making it a party issue. Who knows who is involved in these two deals. I agree with Rhettswife. they all need to be outed not just a select few.

Written by Mc.Dennis on 9/13/2007

I would absolutely LOVE to see all the people who used the services of the canal street madame. However, just because Flynt is only picking out certain people doesn't make going after those people wrong.

Written by Dan on 9/13/2007

Stephen, dear, would you agree that the release of all of the client's names of the pimps and madames involved, regardless of the client's political affiliation or their professions or status in the community, would be in the public's interest? It appears that Mr. Flynt is being discriminatory in his selection of the names to be released.
