On Friday, Governor-Elect Bobby Jindal announced the members of the Hurricane Recovery and Emergency Preparedness Transition Advisory Council, which Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach chairs along with vice chair Xavier University President and LRA Chair Dr. Norman Francis.  The hurricane teams have obtained more prominence since Katrina and Rita in 2005.

The Hurricane Recovery and Emergency Preparedness Advisory Council’s three groups include coastal restoration and hurricane protection, hurricane recovery, and emergency preparedness. Each of the three groups within the Hurricane Recovery and Emergency Preparedness Transition Advisory Council will conduct public hearings to collect testimony and make recommendations on the specific issues related to their area of focus.  Earlier this week the Ethics transition advisory council met for their first hearing.

Jindal also announced today that the Hurricane Recovery Group’s first public hearing will be in New Orleans on November 27th, the Coastal Restoration and Hurricane Protection Group’s first public hearing will be in Houma on December 3rd, and the Emergency Preparedness Group’s first public hearing will be in Baton Rouge on November 29th.

The Hurricane Recovery and Emergency Preparedness Transition Advisory Council is one of seven transition advisory councils, also including economic growth, education, ethics, health care, government and fiscal reform, and crime and public safety – all reflective of the seven policy chapters Jindal unveiled during his campaign. There are also two special committees which will examine issues pertaining to Veterans Affairs and Wildlife and Fisheries.
