Lafayette and Baton Rouge have some very good news today.
The Milken Institute Best Performing Cities Index ranks LafayetteLouisiana 9th and Baton Rouge 19th in the nation as U.S. metropolitan areas’ performances. The Institute compares well cities are creating and sustaining jobs and economic growth. The components include job, wage and salary and technology growth. Of all of the states, Texas fared the best with 9 cities hitting the top 25 areas and with Austin claiming the number one spot.
According to the Advocate, federal prosecutors charged Baton Rouge lawyer Kevin Monahan on Tuesday with illegal possession of a powerful prescription pain reliever and marijuana.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office’s office in Baton Rouge alleges Monahan possessed marijuana and Oxycodone (the latter without a valid prescription and order from a practioner).
The Advocate has quoted Monahan’s attorney, Frank Holthaus, to say that “Monahan hopes to be allowed into a pretrial diversion program so he can avoid a conviction and save his law license.”
