In celebration of his 100th day in office, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal’s  has issued what it is calling its “First 100 Days in Office.   Highlights of Accomplishments by the Numbers”.

According to the Jindal Administration, here are the numbers and their importance:

#1Louisiana is now ranked Number ONE in the nation on its legislative disclosure form – as part of the sweeping reforms made in the Governor’s first special session on ethics reform. Also in the first special session on ethics reform, conflicts of interest were eliminated and there is now transparency at every level of government.

#2 – The Governor has called TWO special sessions of the legislature. The first one on his ethics reform agenda, and the second was to eliminate unfriendly taxes on business investments, utilities and debt as well as to invest in the state’s economic priorities.

#3 – There have already been three times the legislature has been called into session under Governor Bobby Jindal.

#4 – Governor Jindal has included $4 million in the 2008-09 executive budget for dual enrollment programs, which allow students to earn credit for college courses and workforce training while still in high school.  This is part of his agenda to overhaul the workforce development system in the state, which is the centerpiece of his agenda in the regular session.

#5 – More than $530 million was invested in the state’s transportation and infrastructure needs during the second special session of the legislature.

#8 – SB 8 passed in the first special session on ethics reform capped food and beverages for public servants at $50 - eliminating the unlimited wining and dining by lobbyists and special interests.

#11 – SB11 passed in the second special session dedicated transportation-related fees and taxes to transportation projects.

#12 – SB12 passed in the second special session accelerated the elimination of the tax on business investment (MM&E) - - so Louisiana is no longer one of only three states in the country that taxes manufacturing machinery and equipment.

#37 – SB37 passed in the first special session requires online reports of all state spending by agency and function. This new law requires the Commissioner of Administration to post a monthly report of the appropriations and spending for each budget unit of state government. The website will be user-friendly and fully functional in January 2009 – so the operations of government are fully transparent.

#42 – The Governor called for more than a $42 million investment in the state’s Port Priority Program during the second special session of the legislature.

#57 – The Governor allocated $57 million during the second special session of the legislature for the Cyber Innovation Center at Barksdale Air Force Base to improve access via Interstate 220 and make the site more attractive to Cyber Command.

#75 – The Governor invested $75 million toward deferred maintenance needs in Louisiana’s higher education facilities during the second special session of the legislature.

#99 – Enrollment in Louisiana’s community schools and technical colleges has more than DOUBLED since ‘99; and in order to make our workforce training schools even more efficient for the businesses and workers they serve, Governor Jindal’s workforce reform initiatives include instituting a Day One Guarantee which means schools guarantee to businesses their graduates are ready to work on their first day on the job or they will be retrained for free.

#100– TODAY IS THE ONE HUNDRETH DAY of Governor Bobby Jindal’s time in office. He was sworn in as Governor of Louisiana on January 14th 2008.

Well, I would like to Harvestmoon, but state controlled computer resources won't allow me to copy and paste the rather lenghty address you posted. And I am too lazy to type it in by hand, because the advocate advocates what? Never have been to impressed with the corporate owned editor there. Sort of reminds of Stevo's antics and point of view sometimes..... I wonder if the state can monitor incomming or out going emails on a circumvent program installed in their state run computor resources that were paid for with tax payer dollars if not out and out donated by Bill and Melinda Gates? Wouldn't surprise me none...... Oh that patriot act, good idea, just too easy to abuse I suppose.

#1 is already tarnished. Here's the link to the Advocate's article http://www.2theadvocate.com/opinion/17947244.html?showAll=y&c=y

Dan, I would suppose it adds to the ponderings posted below yours. So really and truly, I would wonder what it is that the average Louisianan wants. I have a few suggestions I suppose, but then the Bobby o’Sullivans of life would probably jump me arse…. I wouldn't want them to sulley me point o' view or anytings like dats.

Forgotston gave the autopsy for the death of ethics laws in Louisiana. It is a must read.

I don't know what Forgotston is going to say, but conservative polls, if you can trust those type of things, say a 50 + a point or two % of Louisiana approves of or has confidence in how the current government (Administration if you want to exponate on that word a little) is performing. So in other words, my take on that general nuance and its associated percentile is: "Maybe the administration is working, and maybe it isn't". (It looks 50/50ish to me) But then again, I would wonder what the percentage of government workers were that participated in the poll conducted that was stating supposed 'confidence' levels? After all, if 50% of those polled was made up of government related personnel, then it could perhaps be prudently construed that really there is only a 24% or so statewide ‘confidence’ level in this Administration. So, if only 24% is confident, and they are all home grown, what confidence level could the nation as a whole seriously have if contemplation of Bobby Jindal for Vice President were to be consternated upon? In as far as all the other benchmark and ‘image’ enhancement rhetoric I have been exposed to in the past 100 days, well, I really haven't seen anything aside from the state spending around a billion dollars that it had in the treasury, and that is what it had to do anyways.... I mean hell, anyone can go shopping if it has a purse full of money, just ask Bab's..... I suppose it really boils down to how efficiently and cost effectively they are spending it......... So……………………. But on the ‘upside’, I applaud Piyush for his efforts to cause the Mississippi River District command of the Corpse of Engineers to be answerable to Congress instead of the Vicksburg headquarters… But then again, I wonder about the disproportionate amount of Chouest and McCall boats on drydock being ‘outfitted/built/rebuilt/refurbished at seemingly every facility from Port Fourchon to Houma…… And of course there are murmurs of Foster affiliations (obvious, duhhhhhhhhh…. Useful, if to a good purpose I suppose) and Bab’s related residual retentions, and how all of this pertains to the #1 ‘Nationally’ stated concern of ‘Southern’ Louisiana, which of course is coastal protection / restoration ‘processes’…….. And then how these things tie into the revitalization of the Louisiana economy which has a certain constant due to $100 + per barrel prices when it only costs around 20 + $ per barrel to explore for, and produce per barrel… So ‘windfall money’ and its utilization is the question. Because really, any oil field activity related economic revitalization contributions owe no credit to anyone, and no one can really take credit for them, because ‘oil money’ can be considered as a naturally occurring economic event based on available resources, and supply and demand. (And I really don’t want to get into the issue that most of those resources/revenues are currently being extracted from FEDERAL waters where the Louisiana scheme of things may be concerned). And so would any other form of revitalization that happens aside from oil, be they hurricane inspired, or through give aways to the state of Louisiana by Congress. And the big question I wonder, and everyone else should wonder I would suppose would be; “How cost effective, or how cost efficient are the programs currently undertaken with regards to protection/restoration being carried out?” Who really is/are the power (‘s) behind the curtain? What do they allow, what do they prevent? What is it that is being orchestrated? And perhaps most important of all, if something is being prevented to the disparity of the taxpayers, then what right do they have in doing so if that is indeed what is being done?
