BATON ROUGE, La.—Attorney General-Elect James D. “Buddy” Caldwell announced that John W. Sinquefield, First Assistant District Attorney of the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office, will become his First Assistant Attorney General when he takes office on Jan. 14, 2008.Caldwell, a Democrat, beat out Alexander Royal in the runoff in November.
“John has been recognized as one of the best prosecutors and lawyers in the United States.He is well versed in every aspect of the law – criminal, civil and administrative.The people of Louisiana are fortunate to have him working for them.I certainly am honored that he has agreed to take the job,” Caldwell said.
“John’s appointment is in keeping with my pledge to employ the very best talent, so we can quickly be about creating the best Attorney General’s Office in the nation,” Caldwell said.
Caldwell noted that he and Sinquefield have known each other since they started TallulahElementary School together when they were 6 years old.They attended all 12 years of school together, and shared some time together at the LSULawSchool.
“I am very excited about this opportunity,” Sinquefield said. “I’ve known Buddy since we were kids.I know the plans and ambitions he has to create one of the very best Attorney General Offices in America.It’s a new day and a new era for positive change.”
“I truly believe the performance of the Attorney General’s Office is key to a lot of the progressive, positive changes we’re going to see come to pass in this state,” he said.
Sinquefield has a broad range of legal experience, having served as First Assistant District Attorney to District Attorney Doug Moreau of East Baton Rouge Parish since 1991.He also served as First Assistant District Attorney to Richard P. Ieyoub in Calcasieu Parish, and as Chief Deputy District Attorney to former East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Ossie Brown.His experience also includes a year of service as a Special Prosecutor in the Orleans District Attorney’s Office.
Sinquefield is a former Staff Counsel for the NationalCenter for Prosecution Management in Washington, D.C.He also has experience in the Louisiana Department of Justice, where he served as a law clerk, special prosecutor and Chief of the Legal Services Section.
He is an active past vice president of the National District Attorney’s Association and has served on the association’s Board of Directors since 1983.He served as co-chairman of the association’s Ethics and Standards Committee.He is a past president of the Assistant District Attorney’s section of the Louisiana District Attorney’s Association.
He has been active in writing and promoting legislation related to criminal law and procedure, and he has been a guest lecturer at the LSU, Southern University and TulaneLawSchools.He is a nationally recognized speaker in the area of capital litigation.

Isn't this the guy that instituted the policy of a soire at Ruth Chris's Steak House for a prosecutor that managed to get a death penalty conviction? He wouldn't have prosecuted those doctors for killing terminally ill patients during Katrina. He would have offered to take a sledge hammer and do it himself. Written by I. Remember
