BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced more help was on the way in connection with the recent Hurricane Ike.The Governor said that FEMA has approved additional parishes that were impacted by Hurricane Ike as now eligible for public and individual assistance programs, at the request of the Governor. Those additional parishes declared eligible for the public assistance program will be eligible for the 100 percent federal cost share the Governor announced earlier this week. The 100 percent cost share period begins September 14th and runs through October 26th.
The following parishes are now eligible for the FEMA Public Assistance (PA) program for categories A-G for Hurricane Ike, which includes repairs to damaged public facilities: Acadia, Allen, Bienville, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Concordia, DeSoto, Iberia, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafourche, Plaquemines, Red River, Sabine, St. Bernard, St Charles, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, St. Mary, Terrebonne, Union, Vermilion, and Vernon.
The following parishes are now eligible for Individual Assistance (IA) Program for Hurricane Ike: Allen, Livingston, Orleans, St. Martin, St. Tammany and Tangipahoa. Individuals who have incurred damages as a result of the storm should register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or online at www.fema.gov. For Hurricane Ike, individuals must register for assistance with FEMA no later than November 12, 2008.
Governor Bobby Jindal said, “This is a positive step forward to support the recovery efforts in these parishes. Fortunately, these additional parishes declared eligible today for the public assistance program will also benefit from the 100 percent federal cost share for Hurricane Ike.. We are continuing to work with the Administration and Congress to receive the 100 percent federal cost share for Hurricane Gustav, as well as provide our agriculture industry with the critical support they need to get back on their feet after these two storms.”
State agencies, local governmental entities and eligible non-profit organizations located in the declared parishes that have incurred damage as a result of Hurricane Ike should file a Request for Public Assistance with GOHSEP no later than November 9, 2008, in order to identify themselves as eligible for assistance under the FEMA Public Assistance Program. The Request for Public Assistance form can be found atwww.LouisianaPA.com.Eligible applicants must submit the request for public assistance form no later than November 30, 2008.
