The Royal Sonesta Hotel has announced that Janice A. Guido has been hired as the Director of Sales and Marketing.Guido is a New Orleans native with over 20 years of experience in the industry.Janice Guido’s career has included key positions at some of the area’s leading luxury hotel properties and the New Orleans Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The 500-room Royal Sonesta Hotel is located in the heart of the French Quarter.
Skrmetta
Metairie attorney and businessman Eric Skrmetta will take his oath of office Monday evening as Public Service Commissioner representing District 1, a twelve-parish area that includes the Greater New Orleans.
Skrmetta defeated former Public Service Commissioner John Schwegmann with 60% of the votes to Schwegmann’s 40% in the November 2008 election. A lifelong Republican, Skrmetta replaces outgoing Public Service Commissioner Jay Blossman.Skrmetta ran his campaign on a platform that included diversifying Louisiana’s energy sources to lower rates, strengthening infrastructure to withstand hurricane force winds, deploying high speed Internet access statewide, and expanding the commission’s oversight to ensure that cable providers are offering consumers the best rate possible.
Skrmetta is a graduate of LSU's School of Industrial Technology and a cum laude law school graduate with a master's degree in maritime and admiralty law from Tulane. He served as chief operating officer of his family's century old seafood processing company, and led the company into world markets with sales on almost every continent. A success in his own law practice, he was recruited by the Louisiana Department of Insurance after Hurricane Katrina to preside over more than 700 mediations between homeowners and their wind insurance carriers.He settled almost 90% of those disputes.
The swearing-in ceremonies will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Marriott Lakeway in Metairie, located at 3838 North Causeway Boulevard.Skrmetta will take his oath of office at 6:30 PM administered by newly-elected Supreme Court Justice Greg Guidry.

The weather forecast indicates the temperature or wind chill factor in the City of New Orleans is expected to reach 38 degrees or below during the overnight hours for the next 4-days. All citizens should take appropriate precautions to protect themselves from the potentially dangerous effects of this weather. Exposure to temperatures near freezing, combined with strong winds, for an extended period of time can cause serious medical problems. Beginning tonight, and each night through Thursday night, weather conditions require all individuals to seek shelter.
The City's Freeze Plan will be in effect to provide temporary shelter for homeless citizens each night.
Accordingly, persons needing shelter will be accepted at the following locations under the following conditions:
The Ozanam Inn, 843 Camp St. - Will accept males only beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The Covenant House, 611 N. Rampart St. - Will accept females, between the ages 16-21, and families starting at 9 p.m.
The New Orleans Mission, 1130 Oretha C. Haley Blvd. -- Will accept males and females, starting at 7:00 p.m.
The Salvation Army, 4500 South Claiborne Ave. – Will accept male or females, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
The Bridge House, 1160 Camp St. - Will accept males or females who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol beginning at 9:30 p.m.
All shelters will be opened free of charge to persons seeking shelter during this period of inclement weather each evening from Monday through Thursday night of this week.
