Corps to prepare addendum discussing proposed risk reduction plans for Plaquemines Parish Individual Environmental Report 13 Addendum to be released for public comment later this summer
NEW ORLEANS – In response to comments from citizens in Plaquemines Parish, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District is preparing an addendum to Individual Environmental Report (IER) 13, “Westbank and Vicinity, Hero Canal Levee and Eastern Terminus, Plaquemines Parish, LA.”
The addendum will acknowledge all comments received during IER 13’s public comment period, including those received by phone, fax, e-mail, mail and at public meetings held on Apr. 29 and May 4, 2009.
The IER 13 Addendum will be released for 30-day public review later this summer.Notices regarding the availability of the IER 13 Addendum will be sent to people who indicated an interest in the project and to those who attended the Apr. 29 and May 4 public meetings.
IER 13 was originally released for public review on Apr. 3, 2009. The comment period was extended, by request, and closed at midnight on Jun. 1, 2009.
The environmental document outlines a proposal to reduce risk for the Belle Chasse sub basin, which includes Belle Chasse, English Turn, New Aurora, the Belle Chasse Naval Air Station and Oakville by connecting the Westbank and Vicinity levee to the Mississippi River levee in Plaquemines Parish.
The Corps’ commitment to stakeholder involvement is part of the National Environmental Policy Act compliance efforts to provide opportunities for the public to participate in development of the hurricane risk reduction system.
