Moret

According to CNN, Steve Moret, Secretary of LED is stating that “Louisiana's eight paper mills belong to one of the state's most troubled industries, facing high natural gas prices and difficult market conditions, state Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret said Wednesday.  However, on another matter, Moret is quoted by AP saying he's looking at two factors to decide whether the state should pursue the construction of a $4 billion cargo airport.  His recommendation will hinge upon a developer is willing to put up a majority of the financing or if a large company agrees to be the anchor tenant.

Moret says he'll have a recommendation for lawmakers by May 1.  The proposed airport is at a  25,000 acres site along the Mississippi River in Ascension, Assumption and Iberville parishes.

According to the AP, The cargo airport has been on the drawing board for 16 years.

The pulp and paper industry faces challenges from energy costs, debt concerns, increased competition from such foreign competitors as China and the nation's economic downturn, Moret told lawmakers.

He spoke at a House and Senate commerce committee hearing to update lawmakers on Louisiana's economic conditions and business retention and attraction efforts.”

Richmond

Louisiana Legislator and former Congressional Candidate, Cedric Richmond has had his law license suspended for two months in relationship to a legal action concerning his residency requirement for a former election.  The Louisiana Supreme Court  suspended the New Orleans legislator and attorney from practicing law for six months.  He received a deferral except for 60 days of the penalty.   Richmond ran against William Bill Jefferson in the 2nd Congressional District.  He has also been mentioned for that seat should Jefferson’s seat linger and for Mayor of New Orleans.

Richardson

President-elect Barack Obama on Wednesday named New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson to serve as secretary of Commerce in his Cabinet.

You may want to ask DHL about that, oh wait, they shut down one of their aircargo transfer points in Pennsylvania a few months ago, and there is how big a population in Pennsylvania???? And it has how many serious population values within one hours flight time away???? I think the concept of logistics escapes these geniuses.......

An aircargo terminal around Donaldsonville.......... Yeah, that's real smart... If the United States Air Force considered it to be cost effective to decommission England Airfield in Alexandria, what brilliant planner thinks an aircargo terminal in Donaldsonville would be of any significance.... What are they going to do, airlift sugar cane go China? Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!! And you think natural gas prices are troublesome to the pulp industry, you ought to see what gas prices do when used to fuel an aircraft for cargo transportation purposes.... Rail, trucks, and barges... That's what Louisiana does, now simply take something that works, and improve them to meet the challenges ahead... $4 billion? Hmmmmmm,,,, between the LSU hooyah/VA conumdrum and this we are talking ...... $6 billion????? I think folks can understand why this has been laying around for 16 years... It wasn't sensible back then, and it sure as don't make any sense now......
