Louisiana Rep. Labruzzo Demoted After Sterilize Welfare Flap

The notice came as an email from the House of Representatives.

“House Speaker Jim Tucker today announced several committee leadership changes.

Rep. Austin Badon will replace Don Trahan as chairman of the House Education Committee and Rep. Frank Hoffman will replace Badon as vice chairman of that committee.

Also, Rep. Rick Nowlin has been named vice chairman of the House Health and Welfare Committee replacing Rep. John LaBruzzo. LaBruzzo will remain a member of the committee.

In making the change, Tucker said the legislature "will undertake the enormous and difficult task of reforming health care in Louisiana in the next several months. Some of the comments made by Rep. LaBruzzo recently have impeded his abilities to help lead critical healthcare reform and be an effective member of our leadership team."

Labruzzo has seen some tough days since leading the charge on the legislative pay raise issue and talking about reducing the “welfare state” by a voluntary program that would sterilize poor women.   Tucker is a Republican and so is Labruzzo.  Both hail from the New Orleans area.  Labruzzo was instrumental in turning the tide on the pay raise issue although he originally championed it and still feels that legislators deserve a pay raise.

You see, life is a struggle.... Life is not 'fair'...... Life is a gift, to be experienced as best as you are able to....... And life should be full of strong people that can look out for the others that are not as strong..... I didn't say the strong should be enslaved to do good things, I said that the strong should be further empowered to look out for those that are less able..... And that the weak shouldn't be preying upon the weak, the victimizers dominating their victims... That is why we have laws.... Without God, laws, and the willingness to do productive things we have nothing........ God Bless America.................... Quit producing victims, produce victors instead............................

Hey tiger............... "This plan simply pressures women to make a hard decision that they might regret later in life."????????? And abortion is easier to deal with? Or poverty, how about just not having children unless you are willing to provide and fend for them? I have so much to say on this subject, but you know what? It falls on deaf ears because not only are fools deaf, they are blind as well..... Shame they weren't mute so we didn't have to listen to their screaming for more...more...more...more...... Greed my friend, apathy my friend, sloth my friend, covetness my friend, ignorance my friend, laziness my friend,......... Like life is a promise, and people have rights to what???? What rights do you have? You have ZERO rights....... You only imagine you are free, you only imagine you have the right to rights........ You are soo misinformed it is ridicullus.... You probably think you have the right to health care too........ The only thing you have the right to is the right to roll over and die when your time comes, you have the right to starve to death if you do not work for a living, you have the right to get violated if you wander into the wrong vicinity that harbors the wrong kind of people.... Rights? Tell me about rights, and I will tell you about the wrongs..... To have rights, you first have to have a firm understanding of wrong.......................... God Bless you, you have the right to that........................................ And you are entitled to it as well......................... So doubly God Bless you you poor disillusioned soul............................ KKK? Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, that's another big joke on humanity................................

I am not advocating "forced" medical procedures like abortion or having someone's tubes tied; I do believe the taxpayers should provide (or if you prefer "the government should provide") both abortions and tubal ligations if a ward of the state desires either procedure. I do not think advocating this choice for those who cannot afford these procedures (that are often chosen by those more wealthy) makes one an advocate of Eugenics. Standing in opposition to those who profit from a large underclass I wish to see as many people as possible lifted out of poverty. Better schools and jobs; more people who are self-sufficient would be my desired goal. However I do believe that anything subsidized by government will increase and therefore illegitimacy has increased since the Great Society reforms. I do not think "government" paid abortions or tubal ligations will make even the slightest dent in our rising illegitimacy rate but if someone who cannot afford either procedure desires it - and since Uncle Sam is the de facto "breadwinner" of this single-parent household - shouldn't the single mother living in poverty have the same family planning choices a woman living in a household with a higher income (and medical insurance) has? Or to put it another way: do you not think that "Univeral Healthcare" will provide these services for the poor? Labruzzo may be both dumb and racist, but that REALLY has nothing to do with the issue, try not to let that cloud your judgement and instead simply consider the issue on its merits alone (that issue is "choice" - after all, my wife and I decided that "two was enough" but since we did not plan on giving up sex, tubal ligation was the "choice" we made....uh.... vasectomy was "out of the question" ... "cut me" ...."DOWN THERE!"... sorry Charlie, I'd rather have had more kids den fo' dat to happen yeah ... oh but no Cher, not me no, uh-uh no).

Excuse me kpf are you justifying this representatives comments which were originally proposed by KKK leaders. We should be helping the people in poverty not eliminating them. This plan simply pressures women to make a hard decision that they might regret later in life.

Yeah, I suppose honesty is a bitter pill for a fool to swallow, he should have been more wishy washy in his presentation...... But then again, there is alot to be said for a man who offers an honest and to the point layout of plans, intent, and reasonably expected results which hopefully addresses and benefits the solution to a specific problem...... Ahhh,, the sugar coating, some folks just have a hard time with that tact, myself included....

Great point about how governement's helping hand leads to dependency and loss of freedom. It seems all too many want this unfortunately. Labruzzo should have simply phrased his plan differently. Instead of offering to tie the tubes of poorer women to lower the number of poor people he should have simply offered this procedure as a means of "providing health care / family planning options for disenfranchised women."

Just and correct as it was for Rep. Tucker to strip LaBruzzo of his vice chair on Health and Welfare, any "reforms" they might propose for health care should meet the same fate if they remotely echo LaBruzzo's intentions.

There was a chemistry professor who had exchange students in his class. One day while the class was in the lab, the professor noticed one young exchange student who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked him what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a communist regime. In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?' The professor thought it was a joke and asked what the punch line was. The young man said it was no joke. 'You catch pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again. The you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start eating again. You continue till you have all four sides of fence with a gate in the last side. The pigs, which have become used to eating all this free corn start to come through the gate to eat the free corn again. You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly, the pigs have lost their freedom. They run around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon, they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves so they accept the captivity. The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening in the United States. The government keeps pushing us towards communism/socialism and keeps spreading the free corn in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credits for unearned income, tax cuts, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments to not plant crops (CRP), welfare, drugs, etc. - while we continually lose our freedoms just a little at a time. One should always remember two truths: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH and YOU CAN NEVER HIRE SOMEONE TO PROVIDE A SERVICE FOR YOU CHEAPER THAN YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF. If you see that all of this wonderful government 'help' is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America, you might want to send this on to your friends. If you think the free ride is your way of life, then you probably will hope this gets filed somewhere in cyberspace oblivion... But God help you when the gate slams shut! The only thing I can add to this is a question for you. Which candidates out there are most anxious to spread around the feed corn and what might be their motives? Think about it.
