On Monday, the Louisiana State Police and Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOSHEP) activated the state’s “FusionCenter” at State Police Headquarters in Baton Rouge to respond to the possible threat posed by a stolen Cessna airplane flying south from Canada, which later landed in Missouri.
State Police and GOSHEP were notified of the possible threat by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after 5PM Monday and immediately activated the state’s FusionCenter, which is a joint unit of first responders including State Police, local law enforcement, GOSHEP, Louisiana National Guard, and a representative from DHS.
F-15 aircrafts from the Louisiana Air National Guard were called upon to shadow the aircraft as it was traveling South from Wisconsin.
Governor Bobby Jindal said, “State Police, GOSHEP, and the LA National Guard immediately sprang into action this evening. Their quick, coordinated efforts are exactly what we need each and every time there is a possible threat posed to our state, whether natural or manmade. We are glad there was a safe ending to this situation tonight.”
State Police Superintendent, Col. Mike Edmonson said, “We immediately notified the Governor and his senior staff when we were informed of this incident and we activated the state’s FusionCenter in order to get all state response officials and law enforcement officials alerted to the possible threat posed to Louisiana. Initial reports indicated that Louisiana could be affected by the plane’s path, although its final destination was unknown.
“It was absolutely critical that all the proper officials were notified about this incident immediately tonight. GOSHEP Director Mark Cooperand I came to the FusionCenter to monitor the events and remained in constant contact with the Louisiana National Guard and local law enforcement. This was absolutely a joint effort and I am pleased that we all worked together and quickly responded to this threat.”
GOSHEP Director Mark Cooper said, “We activated our Crisis Action Team to monitor the situation, in the event that we would have to coordinate resources somewhere in the state, and we were prepared to establish contact with any office of emergency preparedness and first responder unit, should an area in Louisiana be affected as the incident unfolded.
“We are closely aligned with the FusionCenter on a constant basis and we have two full time GOSHEP intelligence officers assigned to the FusionCenter to coordinate with response officials and immediately notify the Governor of any emergency situation."
The State’s “Fusion Center” that monitored the incident involving the rouge aircraft this evening was officially opened recently - the week before Hurricane Gustav stuck Louisiana in late August, 2008. The State’s FusionCenter at State Police Headquarters is called LA-SAFE, the Louisiana – State Analytical and Fusion Exchange.

I had a good chuckle after reading this story folks, and then I thought about the attention span of some of the buzzy bored patrons and got an even better chuckle… Let me tell you the story of the Great Fusion Center of Louisiana…… Ho-ho-h0-h0!!!!! Some depressed or homesick or crazy whatever, took off in stolen Cessna 172 up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada …….. Cessna 172’s are pretty nice single engine aircraft, they can cruise at about 140 to 150 M.P.H., and they have around a 500 or so mile cruising range depending on how you ‘lean’ out the engine, or your altitude, or how heavy you are on the throttle, or how heavy the payload is that you are carrying, etc., etc., etc.…… Well, anyways, a bunch of yahoos up north jumped in their F-16’s and sort of followed it around Michigan for awhile, then Minnesota, then Wisconsin, then Iowa and for the sharp ones out there, well, I think you get the picture by now……. 150 M.P.H. is fairly slow for an F-16, and its ‘stall’ speed (You know, like when the aircraft isn’t flying anymore and it just sort of falls out of the sky if it isn’t coming in for a landing) is around 120-ish depending on your wing angle, so in other words, figuring this guys time in the air, the jets were just about falling out of the air for lack of speed while they were following him around….. Anyways Louisiana was the only chuckleheads down south to deploy a ‘fighter’ to ‘protect’ Louisiana,, Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!!!!!!!!!!! You didn’t see folks from Kansas, or Oklahoma, or Texas, or Tennessee, or Mississippi, Arkansas, or whatever doing something as stupid as that, but nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo,,, our Louisiana Air National Guard ‘commander in Chief’ the great Bobby Jindal dispatches an intercept aircraft, it probably cost around $35,000.00 – $48,000.00 for that sorte, thank gawd no guided missles were used, Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!! Now for the funny folks, Basically the reason why folks from Kansas, or Oklahoma, or Texas, or Tennessee, or Mississippi, Arkansas etc., etc., etc. didn’t do something as stupid as that is they came to the stark realization that it wasn’t necessary, and why? Well, the Cessna pretty much just ran out of gas up there in Missouri…. (or there were very few pounds of fuel on board when he landed on the highway) And it was an additional 500 miles to go from that point before Louisiana could even have been a consideration….. So thank you Supreme Commandant in Chief Bobby Jindal, and the Great Fusion Center for wasting probably around 50 thousand bucks on a useless joy ride……………………… All because they are so stupid they can’t even break out with a calculator and figure out ‘how far is this guy going to fly?’ Putzes…… Next time, just call out for the Great Waldo Pepper, and have a guy in the back seat with a shot gun so that when Waldo pulls his barnstorming biplane up next to the ‘Renegade/terrorist’ whatever, flying around in a stolen Cessna Waldo can break out with a bull horn and say “Pull over, you are under arrest”………………. O.K. folks, being as I am writting something here is some Trivia about the F-16, I like to pass out a little knowledge whenever I can, helps people sort of get a different perspective on things, maybe even get a little more 'learned'.... Anyways they are pretty nice aircraft to own… F-16 were manufactured by General Dynamics which sold its aircraft manufacturing business to the Lockheed Corporation, which in turn became part of Lockheed Martin after a 1995 merger with Martin Marietta. They cost approximately 18 million bucks apiece, and around 4,500 have been produced but they are no longer being bought by the U.S. Air Force, so they have become sort of typical Air National Guard hardware, however, Israel buys a lot of them.
