WASHINGTON – United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., will today meet with Vice Admiral Harvey Johnson, President Bush’s nominee to be Deputy Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). In October of last year, Admiral Johnson hosted a press conference in which he took questions from his own staff pretending to be reporters. That fake press conference caused a tremendous disturbance in the national media and coincided with the California fires.
The meeting, requested by Sen. Landrieu following Adm. Johnson’s confirmation hearing last month, is intended to discuss ongoing hurricane recovery issues after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the devastating flooding that followed.
Also attending the meeting will be state and local officials from parishes most affected by the storms.
According to a spokesperson for Senator Landrieu, Johnson has not yet been confirmed for the position and Landrieu will be discussing the confirmation matter with state and local officials.
