JENA, La. – Mychal Bell, an African American young man who personified the Jena Six as his case went through the Louisiana court system pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor battery. The ultimate sentencing of Bell is not yet known but will likely include time served.
The Jena Six case enraged many whites and blacks on both sides of the issue and has precipitated the display of nooses around the country and a spate of them throughout Louisiana.
Mychal Bell was originally charged as an adult but that status and conviction was overturned by a state Appellate Judge.Instead, the appeals court determined he should be tried as a juvenile and his case was expected to go to trial this week.
Bell had originally been charged with attempted murder in the beating of Justin Barker.
While Bell’s case was the symbol, the other members of the Jena Six defendants still face their destiny with the law.The entire ordeal brought tremendous media attention to a small Louisiana town including civil rights leaders Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. On the other side, some members associated with white supremacy groups also appeared to counter the Jena Six march and demonstration.
Well, dears, what do you know. A lawsuit in Jena, Louisiana and by whom, the true victim. Read, dears" http://www.wwltv.com/local/stories/wwl120407khvictimjenasix.69479a53.html
Now naming the school board was not essential but that's life. However, the Barker family and the rest of Jena, Louisiana should sue certain leaders of that protest march for defamation of character. After, all dears, the Barker child was the one characterized as being at fault by some segments of society. The plea of Bell indicates who was wrong, now doesn't it? Written by RhettsWife

Once again we see the issue of racial blackmail become a method of avoiding the exposure of the complete truth to the local, state, and national community . This malestrom of pleas in order to avoid the full extent of justice cannot be allowed. In this particular instance, radical leaders, who sought to claim fortune and publicity, interjected themselves into the picture. We do not see them seeking to strike at the very heart of the issue - ignorance, immorality, and responsibility. This nation has been filled with the bitterness of hatred since its inception. Some came here to escape religious intolerance, others to escape poverty, and, frankly, others to escape the liability for crime, and some came here sold into slavery by their own leaders, others captured into slavery. We cannot help but believe that many are being sold into a different form of slavery (that of ignorance, immorality, and irresponsibility) by their own alleged leaders. Racism rears its heady force in many ways and against all peoples regardless of their ancestry. It is time that we unite in the valiant effort to overcome this issue - that can only result if there is improvement in education, improvement in morals, and improvement in the understanding that we are accountable for our actions. The state of education here in Louisiana and throughout this country is cicrumspect - read the statistics that show how this state and nation stands in education. Religious leaders, whose very own religions gave credence to slavery and segregation, have yet faced reality and taken stands that will be protective of all but seek often to pacify rather than stand up for what is right. It is time that standards of morals (not specific religion) be introduced to our children in the classrooms, it is time to stop the growing rate of fatherless children, it is time to hold the parents accountable. It is time that role models be held up to our children, who have sound practical standards that can be followed. It is time that education be the primary reason for our schools and universities. It is time that we see intelligence and learning as possible and essential and that, while sports may be necessary, it is not the end and be all of a future. New Orleans will host two national football games. Thousands will flock to them. However, would thousands flock to a science fair or to a meeting of students who wish to debate, etc. The answer is no. How pitiful. Thus children will remain ignorant, will remain open to crime, and yes, can be used as pawns in the game of racial blackmail. Racism has many forms, dears. Unfortunately, we do not see any other form than that of the color of one's skin. Written by RhettsWife
