New Orleans, LA—On February 15, 2008, Orleans Parish District Attorney Keva Landrum-Johnson announced that Randolph Robinsonreceived the mandatory sentence of life in prison for second degree murder by Criminal District Court Judge Benedict Willard. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Greg Thompson and FrancescaBridges, both of the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office Violent Offender Unit. Robinson was convicted of attempted armed robbery in 1993.
Robinson shot Tasha Smith, his ex-girlfriend, multiple times at her front door in the 2500 block of Cambronne St. as she attempted to enter it on July 29, 2004. Smith was shot in the head, neck, shoulder and back.
The jury heard testimony from two eyewitnesses to the shooting. Prosecutors also linked Robinson by DNA evidence to a 9-mm handgun found in his possession where he was hiding out in St. Paul, Minnesota and was arrested. Testimony from a firearms identification expert established the 9-mm handgun recovered in Minnesota as the same firearm used to kill Smith.
I am glad N.O. has a tough D.A. who will remove (some) violent criminals from our streets. I too hope she sticks around. Of course this does not help the victims of crime (especially if they are dead); as in so many things, government will never be as much help to anyone as they can be to their own self.
