Darling friends:

Summertime is here, along with all its wonderful festivals, outdoor soirees and indoor cultural events. Last week was no exception.

I always enjoy attending the YLC's Wednesday At the Square and I was looking forward to seeing my talented friends John Boutte and Paul Sanchez, as well as Trombone Shorty who I have seen grown since he was a little boy. Their performance was truly sensational. I am always amazed at how much local talent our beautiful city has to offer.

On Thursday, I attended briefly the black-tie, very elegant National World War II Museum’s D-Day 65th Anniversary Party. I got to see a lot of familiar faces and met a few new one.  On Friday, it was one of those days that I wish I had a clone because both events: Ochsner Medical Center’s PALETTES & PALATES and Faulkner House’s Juleps in June  were held at exquisite residences and the food, the libations and the company were superb.

On Sunday, I took advantage of the wonderful free concert that Trinity Episcopal Church offers every Sunday from 5 to 6 p..m.  This Sunday, it featured: “BON OPERATIT!”  which was, as announced, an afternoon filled with my favorite opera arias from La Traviata, Rigoletto, Carmen and others, plus numbers from musicals like West Side Story and Showboat, and songs composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, performed magnificently by Tenor Jesse Nolan, Soprano Lauren Mourey Gisclair and Mezzo-Soprano Mary Penick Akin. Carol Rausch accompanied them on the piano.

Put in your calendar that on June 28 from 3 to 6 p.m. will be the IX Annual Independence Day Music Festival. It will feature over 200 performers, free and open to all with a reception following. I am sure you will not want to miss it.

This is week I am looking forward to several exciting events:

Wednesday, June 10
ROUND TABLE LUNCHEON at Begue’s of the Royal Sonesta Hotel

The featured guests are Olga Aguilar, Partnership Specialist of US 2010 Census; Ivonne Ortiz of AeroMexico Airlines; and Ann R. Tuennerman, Founder of Tales of the Cocktail®. The three-course gourmet luncheon is $35 and includes parking validation and wine/champagne. For reservations, contact Noel Scallan at 504-553-2220,

I also would like to invite you to my very special party on Saturday, June 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. “Bon Appétit Soiree” Bacardi Mojitos at Margarita's in my courtyard at 811 Marigny Street to benefit Project Lazarus, a facility that provides accommodations to males and females affected with AIDS. You just need to write a small check of $20 or more to Project Lazarus.

All my guests and the hosts from other parties are invited to the “Champagne & Dessert After Party” at the beautiful home of Vincent Saia and Glynn Stephens, 1565 Exposition Boulevard. 9:30 p.m.

I want to remind everyone that Sunday, June 14 is the very special fundraiser for Chef Matt Murphy, executive Chef of the Ritz Carlton from 4-8pm at the Grand Ballroom of the Ritz Carlton. The event will include tastings from the city's premier chefs including Scott Boswell, Justin Devillier, Tenney Flynn, Donald Link, John Folse, Bob Iacovone, Brian Landry, Duke LoCicero, Jean Luc, Gus Martin, Mark Quitney, Greg Reggio, Jacques Saleun, Susan Spicer, Chuck Subra and Kevin Vizard, to name a few.

A silent auction will feature everything from multiple night stays at exclusive hotels and resorts around the world, autographed copies of the participating chef's cookbooks, celebrity memorabilia, artwork, wine, gift certificates and jewelry. The funds will go towards the chef's hospital care and childcareThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view i. Tickets $65 per person. Have a great week!

  Two Early Louisiana Armoires
Now on Display
19th-Century Antiques Believed to be Work of the “Butterfly Man”

Two early Louisiana armoires are now on display in The Collection’s Williams Research Center, located at 410 Chartres Street in the French Quarter. The pieces, which are temporarily on loan from the private collection of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Patrick, reflect the most elegant style of furniture created in New Orleans in the early 19th century.

Both armoires exemplify what scholars and researchers describe as “Louisiana Creole-style furniture.” The Historic New Orleans Collection will publish a definitive study of early Louisiana furniture in late 2010.
The combination of French, American, and sometimes Caribbean influences in their furniture echoes the Creole community’s lifestyle and heritage as well as its acculturation in Louisiana.
The armoires will remain on display through the New Orleans Antiques Forum at the Williams Research Center, 410 Chartres Street in the French Quarter.  The 2009 New Orleans Antiques Forum, titled “In Search of Southern Style,” will be held August 6-9, 2009. Registration for the event opens June 15 online at www.hnoc.org/antiques.htm. The forum will feature nationally acclaimed presenters discussing topics such as southern aesthetics, popular trends, and the stylistic differences between European and American settlers in the South.
