Darling friends:
Summertime is here, along with all its wonderful festivals, outdoor soirees and indoor cultural events. Last week was no exception.
I always enjoy attending the YLC's Wednesday At the Square and I was looking forward to seeing my talented friends John Boutte and Paul Sanchez, as well as Trombone Shorty who I have seen grown since he was a little boy. Their performance was truly sensational. I am always amazed at how much local talent our beautiful city has to offer.
On Thursday, I attended briefly the black-tie, very elegant National World War II Museum’s D-Day 65th Anniversary Party. I got to see a lot of familiar faces and met a few new one. On Friday, it was one of those days that I wish I had a clone because both events: Ochsner Medical Center’s PALETTES & PALATES and Faulkner House’s Juleps in June were held at exquisite residences and the food, the libations and the company were superb.
On Sunday, I took advantage of the wonderful free concert that Trinity Episcopal Church offers every Sunday from 5 to 6 p..m. This Sunday, it featured: “BON OPERATIT!” which was, as announced, an afternoon filled with my favorite opera arias from La Traviata, Rigoletto, Carmen and others, plus numbers from musicals like West Side Story and Showboat, and songs composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, performed magnificently by Tenor Jesse Nolan, Soprano Lauren Mourey Gisclair and Mezzo-Soprano Mary Penick Akin. Carol Rausch accompanied them on the piano.
Put in your calendar that on June 28 from 3 to 6 p.m. will be the IX Annual Independence Day Music Festival. It will feature over 200 performers, free and open to all with a reception following. I am sure you will not want to miss it.
This is week I am looking forward to several exciting events:
