Fall is here and it usually means we have a lot of activities associated with the cultural season. As you probably know the Overture to the Cultural Season was rescheduled for this Sunday at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
This week, I have about six fabulous soirees that I am planning to attend if I can do it, including the NO/AIDS Walk that was also rescheduled for this Sunday at 10 a.m. by Audubon Park.
On Tuesday, September 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. there will be a Latin Celebration with the New Generation Cuban and Traditional Latino Music at St. Joseph's and the N.O. Musicians' Clinic Present "Playin' For Joan," Mission for the Homeless and Local Working People, at the St. Joseph Church's Rebuild Center (Behind St. Joseph's) located at 1802 Gravier Street. That same evening there will be a Bourbon Tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dos Jefes Uptown Cigar Bar, 5535 Tchoupitoulas Street. The event billed as "A Tasting of Kentucky Small Batch Bourbon from FutureBrands and Glazer’s Companieswill feature "bourbon professor" Steve Colewho will be on hand to taste & educate. Every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m., Trinity Church, 1329 Jackson Avenue, presents "Organ and Labyrinth" with Albinas Prizgintas, on the 5,000 pipes Trinity tracker organ. The program includes some of the greatest music written for organ and a variety of performed music, ranging from Classical Baroque to vintage rock tunes.

Thursday night, September 25 promises another wild and zany edition of Politics with a Punch.It has been a crazy month dealing with hurricanes and politics and they will cover it all on their star-studded show! The show will take place at the Cricket Club, 2040 St. Charles Avenue, one of the most exquisite facilities in town. For this show, they are also opening the doors early, at 6 p.m. for a “Punch Happy Hourand Dinner.” The Cricket Club bar will be open and a delicious drink and appetizer menu will be offered for Punch patrons. This social time is also a great way to network, explore business opportunities and possibly find your next client, customer or partner. As usual, the program will begin at 8 p.m. Post event, the Cricket Club bar will remain open for Punch patrons.

Last week, I was fortunate to attend the opening of the Royal Sonesta Hotel's Secrets in Lace Presents “Bustout Burlesque” in The Mystick Den with shows at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. The authentic 1950s-style burlesque production, starring Kitty Twist, Foxy Flambeaux, Praline DuPree, Lola Van Ella, Debbie Davis and Dante the Magician (with special guest star, former Bourbon Street Burlesque Queen Wild Cherry), will run through October 24. Project Lazarus' “Champagne, Cheese, and The Yellow Brick Road” is thisThursday, September 25, at the New Orleans Center for the Performing Arts (NOCCA), Chartres Street at Montegut. The New Orleans Museum of Art is hosting “LOVE in the Garden,” featuring live music, dancing, open bar and cuisine from 40 local restaurants on Friday, September 26.
Now in its fourth year, LOVE in the Garden has become one of NOMA's most popular annual events under the stars and the oaks in the city’s most romantic setting, the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden. My friend Bonnie Broel’s fundraiser for the House of Broel Foundation is on Saturday, September 27. Bonnie has taken her St. Charles Avenue mansion, near the corner of Jackson Avenue in the Garden District, and turned it into a museum featuring her exquisite doll house creations. You have to see it to believe it! And now she is trying to raise funds for her foundation to keep this historic and scenic landmark operating.
“A Debut on the Avenue II” will kick off on the 27th at the House of Broel, 2220 St. Charles Avenue, with a Patron Party from 7-8:30 p.m.., followed by a Gala from 8:30-11 p.m. World renowned Chef Andrea Apuzzo of Andrea’s Restaurant in Metairie will be cooking and demonstrating, and food will be provided by some of the city’s most renowned restaurants, including Antoine’s, Arnaud’s, Muriel’s, Café Giovanni, Zea’s and more. Orange Kellin and Vernel Bagneris bring their classic jazz elation to Snug Harbor on Saturday, September 27. An extra bonus is the appearance of singer Topsy Chapman, also a former member of the hit musical "One Mo' Time". They are all accompanied by the New Orleans Joymakers which includes jazz masters Bunchy Johnson on drums, Steve Pistorius on piano, and Tom Saunders on bass and tuba.
