What an exciting week! I felt so proud to be a poll commission and was able to cast my vote in this very historical election. I am sorry my darling friend Helena Moreno didn't make it. I did attend Mary Landrieu's victory party and that was a lot of fun but of course I was exhausted after a very long day.

On Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 6:30 pm, General John W. “Jack” Vessey, Jr. will present the inaugural lecture in the General Raymond E. Mason, Jr. Distinguished Lecture Series on World War II. Vessey, who served as Reagan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff will discuss World War II in the Rear View Mirror of One Veteran. Using his personal story as a starting point, he will discuss those that fought in World War II and continued to serve their countries after the war and how the experience shaped their views and, ultimately, the nation’s policies.
This lecture series is free but seating to all events is limited. Reservations are strongly encouraged. This 2009 calendar is the second such project sponsored by the New Orleans Rotary Club.Club member and local businesswoman, Gayle Dellinger, thought up the idea and managed the project which produced the popular 2008 calendar.In June 2008, the Rotary Club of New Orleans presented a check to the New Orleans Firefighters Foundation for $75,000.These funds purchased new uniforms for all the fire department personnel.
Talking about those hot firemen, they will also be at my Round Table Luncheon that will be held Wednesday, November 12 at noon at Begue's Restaurant of the Royal Sonesta Hotel.The featured speakers will be the hot firemen that will be signing their 2009 New Orleans Fire Fighters Look Hot Calendar. We will cool off by guest speakers Michael Glassberg, a Sazeractivist and Ann R. Tuennerman, founder of Tales of the Cocktail. They will pay homage to the Sazerac, the official cocktail of New Orleans. Guests will learn its storied history and how to make their own so they can spread the story of the Sazerac to others in an effort to preserve its history as an official Sazeractivist. Veterans Day at The National World War II Museum
Free admission for vets, active military, Guard, Reserve and immediate families
On Tuesday, November 11, 2008, The National World War II Museum will continue its annual tradition of special Veterans Day activities. In addition to day-long, patriotic programming for the entire family, the Museum is offering FREE admission for all veterans, active and retired military and their immediate families.
Activities will kick off with a 10:30 am performance by the U.S. Marine Forces Reserve Band.
At 11:00 am, the Museum will honor all veterans in a special program featuring Maj. General David Mize (USMC Ret), Gen. Charles E. Campbell, Commander of the U.S. Army Forces Command, and Museum President and CEO, Gordon “Nick” Mueller, Ph.D.
At 2:00 pm, the Museum will host a discussion led by Evan Hunsberger who spearheaded the republishing Strength for Service to God and Country, the devotional book, which was carried by his grandfather during World War II. Hunsberger took on this endeavor for his Eagle Scout project several years ago. Larry Coppock, director of Strength for Service, will join Hunsberger for remarks on faith in the military and efforts to distribute the books today. This program will be followed by a panel discussion with the Eagle Scouts.
Throughout the day, the Museum will host displays by the American Legion, the Boy Scouts of America, the Reserve Officers Association and other service organizations.Visitors will also be able to see the Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless, the naval dive bomber that played a major role in the Pacific theater of World War II.
All activities will take place in the Museum’s Louisiana Memorial Pavilion and are free to the public. Veterans Day activities are sponsored by The National World War II Museum and the Mayor’s Military Advisory Committee.

"Legacy For a Legend" gala concert honoring the 40th anniversary of America's longest serving college president, Norman C. Francis of Xavier University, and presented by Liberty Bank. The concert will feature legendary vocalist and seven-time Grammy Award winner Ms. Gladys Knight, along with world-renowned comedian, actor and philanthropist William "Bill" Cosby as the evening's Master of Ceremonies and opening act. . It takes place at the New Orleans Theater inside the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Hall H at New Orleans Theater,Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Hall H, 900 Convention Center Blvd. 8p.m. The November 21st Gala will serve as a major fundraiser to establish a special Norman C. NEW ORLEANS HISPANIC HERITAGE FOUNDATION :AZUCAR BALL
The New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation will host its elegant eighteenth annual fundraiser “The Azúcar Ball”.This year, the theme of the event will be “Noche de Magia” or “Magical Night”.It will be a magical night of dancing, fun and the celebration of our Latin heritage. Maestro Carlos Manuel Prieto is the recipient of the Galvez Cup.
This black tie evening will take place in the LaSalle Ballroom at the InterContinental New Orleans, 444 St. Charles Avenue with non-stop music from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 am by Julio y Cesar y Rumba Buena.There will a silent auction. The proceeds from the “Azúcar Ball” will provide much needed monies for the Foundation’s scholarship fund.
