Another fabulous week in which I spent some of my time outdoors like Lafayette Square or cooling off as a celebrity bartender at the Davenport Lounge of the Ritz Carlton Hotel. I want to thank all my friends who showed up to cheer me up. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed very much when Kermit Ruffins joined Jeremy Davenport and his band playing the trumpet and when Jeremy sang a personalized “ Hello Darling” for me. That is one of my favorite songs and I actually had the pleasure of meeting the writer of this song, Jerry Herman, at the Rainbow Room in NYC at a birthday party for Russian artist ERTE.
In addition to that event I also attended the artsy Louisiana Art Works’ Art Venture and the Leading Ladies Guild of the Jefferson Performing Arts Society’s Tea at the Royal and later the House of Broel Foundation’s Les Femme de la Fashion’s gathering at the Broel Mansion. Each of these events was for a great cause.
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the monthly lecture of The Museum of the American Cocktail. The lecture was titled “An Evening of Cocktail with Angus Winchester: The Playboy Bartender.” It was very informative and explored “The Global Cocktail Phenomenon.” The next lecture will be July 6 and will feature "Mixology Masters of New Orleans” (Series 1) presented by New Orleans Bartenders. The Museum is located at 1 Poydras Street, Suite 169 (Julia Street entrance) and the lecture is at 6:30 p.m. Meet the bartenders who are turning the Crescent City into the cradle of mixology civilization! Join them for demonstrations and personal testimonials from some of the major players who are working to make this happen. Visit http://www.museumoftheamericancocktail.org/Events/Default.aspx .

The event will include tastings from the city's premier chefs including Scott Boswell, Justin Devillier, Tenney Flynn, Donald Link, John Folse, Bob Iacovone, Brian Landry, Duke LoCicero, Jean Luc, Gus Martin, Mark Quitney, Greg Reggio, Jacques Saleun, Susan Spicer, Chuck Subra and Kevin Vizard to name a few. A silent auction will feature everything from multiple night stays at exclusive hotels and resorts around the world, autographed copies of the participating chef's cookbooks, celebrity memorabilia, artwork, wine, gift certificates and jewelry. The funds will go towards the chef's hospital care and childcare.

On a happy note, the secret New Orleanians have long known is finally out. Travel and Leisure recently scoured the country, all 50 states, in search of the ultimate burger for their June 2009 feature, “America’s Best Burgers.” New Orleanians have for some time championed Chef John Besh’s Luke Burger, which is a menu staple at Luke, as the best in the city, but this June, the celebrated burger is being touted as among the best 11 burgers in the country by Travel and Leisure.
