New Orleans Area Events: Week of January 12

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

Darling readers,

" If winter is here, can spring be far behind"

I hope so. Winter is not my favorite season especially in New Orleans where the humidity makes it feeling even more. I visited ParisVenice, Heidelberg, Vienna, Prague and many other European cities during winter but nowhere I felt the cold that I have experienced in New Orleans!

Along with my darling dog Chiquita, we have been trying to stay warm and only stepped out to attend the opening reception of Carlos Estevez' art exhibit Soliloquy at Taylor- Mercier Art Gallery in the French Quarter and later on Twelfth Night to greet masked the Mardi Gras Season at Anthony Marino’s lovely residence in the French Quarter.

On Sunday, I hosted, along with artist Joaquim Casell, a warm cheese and Cava reception in honor of Sociedad Espanola.. The guests kept Casell Gallery pretty warm. Last night I attended the Theatrical Tribute to Stocker Fontelieu at Le Petit Theatre -It  a was a celebration of life that the local community paid to our local legend.    He surely will be missed!

This week, I am looking forward to attending on Tuesday, my Round Table Luncheon with a very impressive list of guest speakers and entertainment. See below for additional information. On Saturday, I wished I had a clone so I could attend, the Saints game, the Russian Festival and the SweetArts Gala among the many fun events that I am invited. I sure that whatever I attend it will be lot of fun.

Talking about the Saints, Rita Benson LeBlanc and the New Orleans Saints have donated a pair of Super Bowl XLIV tickets to Catholic Charities to raise money for our annual fundraising campaign, the Archbishop's Community Appeal (ACA).

Super Bowl XLIV is in Miami, FL on Sunday, February 7. If we're lucky, the Saints just might be there!!

Catholic Charities will be holding a raffle for the tickets starting Tuesday, January 5 and ending on Friday, January 15. Tickets for the raffle are $100 and we they are selling a maximum of 1,000 tickets. You can purchase tickets anytime online at www.ccano.org or at their offices (1000 Howard Avenue in New Orleans) business days from 10 AM - 2 PM.
The drawing is Friday, January 15 at 3 PM at 1000 Howard Avenue. You do not have to be present to win.
Please put in your calendar:

On Monday, January 25, Galatoire’s Restaurant will host its annual Mardi Gras auction, in which patrons bid on table seating for lunch on February 12, the Friday before Mardi Gras. The night will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a reception featuring hors d’oeuvres by Executive Chef Brian Landry and champagne compliments of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin.. Auctioneer Ruthie Winston will take the floor at 6:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit two local organizations, New Orleans City Park and the Historic New Orleans Collection. Since 2006, Galatoire’s has hosted eight auctions, raising nearly half a million dollars for local charities. This year, Galatoire’s celebrates 105 years of business. Pre-registration for the auction is required. Numbered auction paddles will be presented in advance to the first 150 persons to register. Due to limited space, only those registered plus one guest of their choice will be admitted. Contact Christi Gaudet, 504-525-2021 or
cgaudet@galatoires.com, to reserve a paddle. For more information about Galatoire’s visit www.galatoires.com.

Ahhhhh, fun in the city!!!! Yayyyyyy!!!! I hope I can use some o' my stimulus monies fer dat!!!!! That's funny except for one thing. The money you are using is borrowed money so the interest burden is constantly growing. Your kids already owe $34,000. Their college educations will barely cover their salary increase that they will realize as a result of their advanced education. Europe endures a 70% tax rate and still cannot make interest payments. The best analogy is filling one end of a bathtub by scooping out water from the other end with a leaky bucket. So you pay a dollar in taxes and get $.20 back as a stimulus. A MUCH better solution is to just let people keep more of their money in the first place. This way you do not lose 80% of the value from having it filter through government agencies. That also means that if the government borrows the money they only have to pay interest on the $.20 instead of the dollar. The stimulus is bullsh^t and screws us all. It is simple math. Stop listening to the media and think for yourself.
