LPO Brass Quintet to Perform Free Concert Saturday at NOMA
Russian Rhapsody program inspired by Fabergé exhibition
Members of the Brass Quintet from the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a free concert Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Stern Auditorium at the New Orleans Museum of Art. The program, Russian Rhapsody for Fabergé, will feature works by Russian composers, inspired by the current major exhibition, Objects of Desire: Fabergé from the Hodges Family Collection, now on view at the Museum.
The informal "play and talk" also will feature short discussions about the pieces to be performed and the context in which they were created.
While this event is free to the public, admittance is assured only with a ticket, which can be picked up at the Museum beginning one hour prior to the performance.

The block party, held in front of Wolfe's restaurant, will feature activities for the whole family including music, two "Iron Chef"-style competitions, face painting, obstacle courses, children's cooking classes, nice cold beverages provided by Republic National Distributing Co. and much more. It will be a day of fun the whole family to enjoy!
Two Iron Chef Challenges-The two Iron Chef competitions will feature a professional challenge and an amateur challenge. Chef Brian Landry, executive chef of Galatoire's, and Chef Justin Devillier, executive chef of La Petite Grocery, will battle head-to-head with their two person crew to prepare the most flavorful dishes prepared with a secret ingredient provided by New Orleans Fish House and Tabasco . The amateur challenge will combine three non-professional chefs to make up a team. The two teams will go on to compete with a different secret ingredient.
Both competitions will be emceed by local and national food writer, Lorin Gaudin, and local 92.3 disk jockey, Mike Theis, who will keep the crowd entertained and informed about what is being cooked on stage. The sounds of children’s choirs make the holidays even more special at The Omni Royal Orleans. Area schools will perform at 12 noon in the lobby unless otherwise noted, next to the three gloriously decorated Christmas trees flanking the floor-to-ceiling windows along St. Louis Street. Afterwards, the hotel will treat the children to lunch. Performances are free and the public is invited to attend. Performances start at 12:30 p.m.
