According to the Times Picayune, Greg Meffert, the former New Orleans Chief Technology Officer is requesting the city to pay for a city judgment of at least $1.5 million and more than two years of legal fees. Meffert was the first CTO under Mayor Ray Nagin.
However, the TP is claiming that City Attorney Penya Moses-Fields is refusing to pay, saying the jury's ruling absolved the city of any responsibility for Meffert's actions.
The TP also says that “A determination by Civil District Judge Rose Ledet appears to support the city's stance.”
Meffert was found liable in a civil trial earlier this year along with city vendors and Dell Inc in the crime camera case. Greg Meffert and his wife, Linda shortly after the trial was indicted by the US attorney.
After the verdict, a city attorney who had tried the case told Bayoubuzz that the court had found that Meffert had committed an intentional tort which would immunize the City of New Orleans.
Yeah, but y'all still going to pay Jeffersons legal fees now aren't you? Wut a bunch of confused morons... Oh, pardon me, it's going to be everyone everywhere in the U.S. that is going to be paying for Jeffersons legal fees... Hey, that's how you do it, make everyone pay instead of the source.
