How goes the New Orleans Downtown Development projects go the future of New Orleans.Like all major cities in the world, the downtown area plays a critical role in the functionality of the city and the image that is projected.
After Katrina, the New Orleans downtown area looked like a warzone.Army vehicles were everywhere, people were few, open businesses were limited, and there was virtually no city services.It would have been easy to pack up and ship out which is what many people did.
However, somehow, through true grit and finally with the help of government, the downtown area began a comeback.Businesses began to return which spawned more business.
The idea that the old city could be made “new” became exciting for many investors although many property owners and businesses were still suffering and some continue to teeter on the brink.
Due to the importance of the New Orleans downtown area, Bayoubuzz’s Publisher interviewed Kurt Weigel, the President and CEO of the Downtown Development District.The purpose was to get a close up view of the various projects on the drawing board, those currently in motion, the overall master plan, the opportunities available, the needs and wants and, in short, the present and the future.
Bayoubuzz will be presenting this video interview in a series this week for your viewing.There are many projects worth noting, probably none as important as the change in the character of the area, the need for a viable medical engine, restoring Canal Street and the creation of a “creative class” of workers and residents.

My problem with extremist Muslim beliefs is they believe that dying while fighting non-believers will ensure them a more glorious afterlife. Anyone with this Kamikaze-like belief (Christian, whatever religion it may be) with access to WMD scares me into wanting to preemptively "take them out" - not "establish Democracy" "over there" - instead simply remove this threat by any means necessary. Perhaps our culture will rub off on them where they don't "really" with "100% certainty" believe in an afterlife so that they won't be so willing to die and therefore will no longer be such a threat.
