NEW ORLEANS, LA (September 17, 2008) - Mayor C. Ray Nagin has declared a State of Emergency following Hurricane Ike to assure the City of New Orleans can adequately address the needs of residents in Venetian Isles and the current crisis of collapsing structures.

The precautionary declaration also clears the way for all Orleans Parish entities to be eligible for specified assistance and resources following the hurricane. Without the emergency declaration, entities within Orleans Parish, such as the Sewerage and Water Board and the Regional Transit Authority, would not be eligible for assistance.

According to Mayor Nagin, the declaration is also important for residents who need proof of the emergency in order to obtain reimbursement for expenses and damages from their insurance providers.

The Nagin declaration said that Hurricane Ike endangered and threated injury to life and property damage, specifically in certain areas of the City that remain under a boil water order.

The City of New Orleans also has seen a dramatic increase in the number of collapsing properties and in the number of properties that have been determined to be in imminent danger of collapse. Prior to Hurricane Gustav, four properties were determined to be in imminent danger of collapse. There are now 158 such properties.

Also, according to Nagin, Governor Jindal has specifically requested that President Bush declare an expedited major disaster declaration which includes Orleans Parish.

Actually RhettsWife; this is simply another instance where our great ethics reform leader Governor Bobby Jindal needs to look into. But he isn't going to, it is all part of the game...... He is so very, very, very hypocritical........Rather to beg and spend, than work and appreciate I suppose could be the motto of the day for the Guv's office. Oh well, his administration is probably just another example of some peoples valuation processes........ Ha!ha!ha-ha! The punch line to all this, is he is writting to President Bush wanting more money,,,, What?!?!?!?

STATE OF EMERGENCY - BULL!!!! It has been in a state of emergency since Betsy hit this city and there was no proper recovery of the substructure and the homes, etc. of this city. Nagin is just using this as an excuse to get more federal monies to bring back into the city his voters, whom he may need. The Master Plan that he is touting must be seen before it can be approved. The City Council better keep the axe to the grindstone on that issue too. We had hopes for Mayour Loose Lips but those hopes have been dashed. It is time for new leadership in this city on all levels including state and national representation. Let's clean house and let's see some real action. March on the remnants of what was once a great city hall and tear down the decaying beauracracy and incompetence that exists there now.

This city has been in a state of emergency and disintigration ever since we elected Nagin as mayor. His lack of leadership and wish to blame everyone but himself for the failings of our fair city, go a long way to explaining why we're in the awful mess we meet today. Get the scoundrel and his cronies out and we can begin recovery.

Similar to any endeavor it is usually best to find that common sense middle ground. Tear down the structures that are not being repaired, don't tear down the ones that are. Doesn't sound that difficult.
