New Orleans Mayor Nagin Reacts To Quality of Life Survey

Mayor C. Ray Nagin has responded with written comments regarding a quality of life survey performed by the University of New Orleans.  In the written statement Nagin refers to population growth and general frustration New Orleans citizens have with Louisiana’s Governor Blanco’s Road Home program.    Here are his comments:

"As Mayor of New Orleans, I continue to be engaged with our citizens, hearing their thoughts and sharing with them as we work to rebuild New Orleans together.

"Some of the results of a survey released today by the Survey Research Center at the University of New Orleans reaffirm what citizens have said to me. The percentage of citizens who reported they do not feel safe in the city has decreased and the percentage of people who said it is very likely they will leave Orleans Parish within the next two years has declined as well. Perhaps most encouraging is the increase between June 2004 and March in the number of people who said they would definitely evacuate when recommended.

I am concerned that in some instances, the survey findings are presented in a manner that might be confusing for some people. For example, perceptions of government are intermingled with those of the struggling Road Home program.  In addition, this survey does not include evacuees, which I consider a significant omission. But the survey does demonstrate that life is getting easier and that, while they are still concerned, people are less worried about their future than they were a year ago. Throughout the survey, our citizens' commitment to our city is evident. I hope this will be a part of the public discussion.

I commend the Survey Research Center for its efforts to provide information that will assist with the formation of public policy in our post-Katrina environment. It is my hope that future surveys will include a broader spectrum of the community, specifically evacuees, and will include very clear categories to ensure that there is truly meaningful information for us all."

 C. Ray Nagin,"

Mr. Nagin come back to reality. It's not as nice as the place where you are, but it is real and it is a mess. I love New Orleans and I will try my best to help it survive the two disasters that have decimated it, Hurricane Katrina and Mayor C. Ray Nagin. Only history will tell us which did more damage.

C.Ray lives in a world of his own accompanied ,apparently ,by a few left over neanderthols.

Gee, New Orleans still has no approved recovery plan-- but it's not Nagin's fault. Perhaps, Nagin blames Tony Blair, Fidel Castro, Vladimir Putin, and all the other world leaders who haven't pulled their weight in our region's recovery. Nagin certainly can't blame Governor Blanco, President Bush, or anyone else, for stagnant recovery planning processes, post-Katrina. As for the blatant racist rants inspired by the results of these surveys, they certainly speak volumes for themselves. I know, first-hand, that people from all sexes, races, and religions, forming the unique culture of New Orleans, express the same feelings about Nagin as were expressed by the poll results. Certainly, everyone can (and should) hold their own opinion, but, hopefully, those opinions will be formed by fact, rather than on bias.

the Mayor's first sentence demonstrates his arrogance and his delusional view of his current role: "I continue to be engaged with our citizens..." Really? Where? With what citizens exactly? Perhaps it depends on his definition of "engaged". He certainly doesn't meet my definition. C Ray? Not lately.

Surely you cannot be serious. If so, you are delusional.
