The City of New Orleans has issued information points:
City Plan
- NO shelters of last resort will be located in the City of New Orleans
- Citizens should not take the risk of remaining in the city in the event that a mandatory evacuation is called
- City has secured busses from the state and New Orleans Tours and First Student
- State began deployment of 1500 National Guardsmen
Call 311 for Information
- The 311 Call Center has expanded its capacity to 24hrs.
- Due to the heavy call volume, citizens can also call 1-866-205-6485 to register directly for CAEP.
- Register for the City Assisted Evacuation Plan especially those citizens with special needs.
- The City’s 311 call center operators currently taking calls for CAEP registration
- Visit www.cityofno.com for information on the CAEP and evacuation
- Register with NOLARead.info (city alert system)
- If you have not registered for the CAEP and you need evacuation assistance, you can still report to one of the 17 pick points for evacuation
- Be resourceful, call a family member or a friend to get you to the pick up locations
- If you are home bound or bed ridden call 311 to register for transportation assistance
Pet Evacuation
- Citizens may bring their pets with them
- All pets should be in kennels
Have a Personal Plan
- Identify a location for an evacuation
- Put together an evacuation kit
- Check on your neighbors and family members with special needs
- Evacuate with pets
- Go to ready.gov for preparedness information
Pack an Evacuation Kit
- Be sure to have proper identification on hand
- Pack local and regional maps
- Be sure to carry cash for immediate purchases
- Pack water and non-perishable food items for 3 days
- Take a manual can opener
- Carry a first aid kit
- Flash light and batteries
- Purchase a weather radio
- Be sure to fill prescriptions
- Pack important family documents
- Pack change of clothing for at least 3 days
Prepare Your Homes
- Board up windows
- Clean your catch basins or drains
- Secure trash collection carts and other outdoor items
- Move your carts and other items inside the garage or shed, or securely tie-down to prevent them from becoming air borne objects
- Turn all electrical items off
- Consider cleaning out your refrigerator
