Ron Paul Makes Rock Star Appearance At Loyola New Orleans

Written by: Jeff Crouere

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

If a presidential election were held last night on the campus of Loyola University New Orleans, the winner would not have been the 48 year old occupant of the White House, but a spry 74 year old physician from Texas.

U..S. Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) enthralled a huge crowd of supporters and students with a one hour address on topics ranging from the war in Afghanistan to the Federal Reserve. The crowd was so large that the university set up five overflow rooms to accommodate the intense interest in Dr. Paul’s message.

It was amazing to see such an enthusiastic reception for Paul’s message of limited government, freedom and adherence to the U.S. Constitution. The event was mostly promoted on the Internet and, as usual, the mainstream media was nowhere to be seen. Nevertheless, more and more people are learning about Ron Paul and they agree with his message.

Last night, Paul warned that the U.S. foreign policy was creating enemies for this country around the world. He noted that as innocent civilians are killed in war, Muslim families with “long memories” will spend the rest of their lives seeking vengeance against Americans. Paul said that the “easiest place to cut” the federal budget is the defense department and that the U.S. should bring home our troops from not only the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but also countries such as South Korea, Japan and Germany.

In keeping with his staunch libertarian principles, Paul advocated an end to selective service and the draft and the war on drugs. He called for an end to all foreign aid and said that if people wanted to help the poor in other countries, they should give handsome donations. Such generosity will be made easier if Paul is successful in eliminating the federal income tax.

The Congressman is delighted with the tea parties and the town hall meetings and the “anger being directed at Washington D.C.” He said that the Congress should “get government off of our backs and out of our lives” and allow individuals to “keep the fruits of their labor.” He said that the government has expanded beyond the “restraints of the Constitution” and there is no constitutional right to medical care, education or free meals.

In Paul’s view, the real problem is the continual devaluing of the U..S. dollar and the resulting inflation which hits the poor and the middle class the worst. Paul noted that it is ironic that our former communist enemies are now our bankers. If the dollar continues to lose its value, the Congressman believes that the result will be higher interest rates and rampant inflation. He said that the only way to improve the value of the dollar is “to restrain the printing press.”

While the Obama administration may be “brainwashing themselves” that their policies are working, Paul believes that a correction is inevitable. There will be “tough days ahead” to correct for the “extravagance of the past.” As more people become upset and disillusioned with their government, Paul sees the possibility for a “de facto nullification” in which people ignore our government and just “walk away.”

Even though he sounded the alarm about our problems, Paul is optimistic because the new generation has “a different attitude about government.” He also noted that the rise of the Internet allows for people to learn about these issues, study the documents of the Founding Fathers and become aware of what is going on in our government.

Overall, Paul believes that the country is headed for perilous times unless more Americans “wake up.” Yet, due to Ron Paul and other critics of the Obama administration, the American public is finally waking up and attempting to take back control of their government. While the stakes are very high and the problems quite immense, it is at least encouraging that a greater number of Americans are aware of what is happening with their government.

Progress is also gradually occurring in Washington D.C. Dr. Paul noted that there is increased support for his bill to audit the Federal Reserve. Paul has over 280 co-sponsors for the legislation, all Republicans and over 100 Democrats in the House.

If the crowd in Loyola University is any indication, the Ron Paul revolution is alive and well. Paul’s message strongly resonated with the audience, both students and adults. It followed months of unprecedented citizen activism at tea parties and town hall meetings throughout the country.

Dr. Ron Paul deserves a good deal of credit for this movement for he raised many of these issues during his 2008 presidential campaign. In fact, he predicted the financial crisis which has engulfed this country over the past year. While he was not able to wrest the GOP nomination from the favorite of party leaders, Paul attracted millions of supporters to his cause.

Now Paul is even more credible and Americans are even more receptive to his pro-liberty message. The time might be right for Ron Paul to achieve mass appeal in this country. Certainly, he has as much appeal on the Loyola campus as any rock star.

Let’s hope America starts learning the words to the song this rock star is singing.

Thanks from Houston for this excellent article! Ron Paul speaks my mind 100% and I'm glad to see there is some in the media that have'nt sold their souls to the Council On Foreign Relations and their BIG Government New World Order agenda. Now if we can just keep the leftist neocons from hijacking our revolution, I'd say we have a shot in the near future to take back this country for the people. But it's going to take a lot of hard work and NO COMPRIMISE! Pauls got my vote in 2012. Keep the grass fires burning! Freedom forever

KJ - just imagine - just imagine that Obama did not go against the majority of Americans who DID NOT want to see the bailouts take place (spare me the "we had to do it" - if you believe that you have been fooled by those who received this money, paid themselves huge bonuses with it and funneled some back to the same politicians WHO GAVE IT TO THEM). Just imagine if Obama had told Reid and Pelosi "NO DEAL" on the pork laden bills they passed. What would be different now? Centrists like myself would be standing behind this man, supporting him and giving hell to those - left or right - who opposed him. He is attempting to move this country far left. Don't worry about "ignorant racist rednecks" opposing him, the description of those opposed to far left ideology is not comprised of ignorant, racist, or rednecks - it is a much broader swath of the people in this country. I may be wrong, but I believe many Democrats will see Obama differently come the midterm elections. This country is far too divided for either the right wing or left wing to succeed in radically changing this country to suit their more extremist agenda.

Very good, kpf....... But, about that Eleven-hundy?... (oh, never mind)..... Everybody loves Ron Paul-- and it's too bad he doesn't have more money behind him (but not YOUR money,...LOL)...... The Republican Party is pretty fragile, and, the Democrats are divided ...Who knows? Maybe there will be an insurgence towards the Libertarians............I just hate to see dedicated, hard-working Democrats being snubbed for all their efforts and sacrifices.... (not fun to lose:)

KJ, I was under no illusions when I gave Ron Paul's campaign money. I knew he would not win the presidency. Nor did I give him money for "favors" - we have enough of that s#it already, TYVM. I donated the money to get out the word of "freedom, personal responsibility and sound money" - foreign concepts to those ready to march in lockstep (or "goose step?") with the divine enlightened leader of your idealized benign and generous "Nanny Government." Money well spent considering the large numbers of young people in college who support this message. Perhaps we will see - as in the sixties - yet another campus rebellion against "the establishment" - except this time it will be against the central banking interests who devalue our currency, and ship this country's treasure overseas and place their multinational profits ahead of the well being of the people in this country. I do not regret a dime of it.

To "speak the truth..." I'm glad that you find some of Paul's positions agreeable. I think the more you learn about his positions, the more they will make you think. But, in that vein of learning, I have to let you know that you are woefully misinformed about Paul's history. You ask where was he in 2002 and 2004? Well, he was in exactly the same place he is in now - for Liberty and against statism in all its forms. Yes, he was with Byrd and Kennedy opposing the Iraq war from the start, and was one of only 6 Republicans to vote against the Iraq War Authorization. It doesn't matter what "party" is in power. A long time ago, Paul got the nickname "Dr. No" because he votes no on any bill which exceeds the powers granted to the federal government in the Constitution. No exceptions, no excuses. But Paul is not really animated by party loyalty. He is only loyal to the cause of human liberty and to restoring a small, limited government whose only role is to protect and nurture that liberty. Peace.

"Too bad my wife and I were shuffled off into an overflow room, I had hoped to see him in person"... Oh, kpf!- after you gave him eleven hundred of your hard earned bucks?..... That should've rated you something a bit closer.

Definitely there are parts and a lot of them in Ron Paul's message that are very valid, especially as to no more 'War on Drugs,' no to acts such as the USA Patriot Act and to torture and to eavesdropping and to labelling people as enemy combatants and to optional wars such as the invasion of Iraq. Where was this guy in 2004? Where was he in 2002, as well? Standing with Robert Byrd and Ted Kennedy as one of the few who opposed invading Iraq (and turned out to be right), was he? And his group of supporters, too?

Dear Jeff (you rotten kid): Thanks for a MAGNIFICENT essay on Ron Paul! Why, then, do I call you a "rotten kid?" Because you didn't come say hello to me. But, I forgive you; you write like an angel. Best regards, Walter

Actually David Quidd, Ron Paul was NOT the libertarian candidate. He ran as a Republican, and received enthusiatic response all over the USA among freedom loving people of all parties who want to run their own lives, and object to the police state and crazy fiscal policies of both parties. When he did not get the nomination, that was the end of his campaign. He now heads the Campaign For Liberty, which you should check out, to remind you what freedom really is all about, because this is NOT a free country anymore. Had Mr Paul received even FAIR coverage, he would have gone much farther. Commercials are much more expensive than FREE news coverage, but Dr Paul was ignored constantly. If you doubt this,a sk yourself truthfully whether the event at Loyola last night was newsworthy. As it was, Paul generated wild excitement everywhere, and finished first in the Louisiana caucus, but was demoted to second by means of chicanery. This nonsense went on everywhere, because the powers that be OF BOTH PARTIES are just bad wings on the same Bad Bird, preserving the status quo on behalf of their bosses. The corporate fascist media's Annointed One was chosen well in advance, as was the milquetoast "opposition" in the form of McCain, like always, in the false left right paradigm game played right before your eyes. The result was guaranteed, and really makes little difference either way. I suggest you read Mr Bill Clinton's mentor, Carroll Quigley, who confirms this arrangement. Ron Paul is the Real Deal. Perhaps Jeff's eyes have been opened. I appreciate the rare and brave journalist willing to REPORT THE NON CORPRATE FASCIST "NEWS", and wonder if you think it is okay to not do so. I just hope and pray there is still time for the country.

Too bad my wife and I were shuffled off into an overflow room, I had hoped to see him in person. I am also very glad that so many of our young people are adopting Libertarian beliefs. That may not mean a third party, but it may instead mean our two major parties become more responsible. What a different country this man envisions: No war on drugs, no wars or military deployments overseas, no draft, no bail outs for irresponsible Wall Street firms, and end to the Federal Reserve policies whereby they devalue our currency by making money available to ... well, actually, they won't say "how much" or "who to" - they will not even tell congressional committees who are charged with oversight of our banking and economy. We may not live to see the end of the banking interests controlling both parties and having a monopoly (or "disproportionate influence" at the least) on our governance, but Ron Paul's audit the Fed bill is a great start. Vitter & Cao have already signed on as cosponsors, maybe if enough of us goad Mary Landrieu she will get on board as a cosponsor as well.

That's funny Jeff, I don't recall you singing the praises of Ron Paul last year when he was running for president. He wasn't a factor in the GOP nomination battle and ended up being the Libertarian candidate. Do you want him to run as a Republican, Libertarian or on some new conservative party ticket in 2012?

Thank God Ron Paul was on the ballot in the last presidential election. Otherwise, I was faced with a choice of Ralph Nadar or whatever was left on the ballot. It was a vote I could cast with my head up and in good conscious rather than the alternative---which was to hold my nose, vomit and go eney, meeney, miney mo between the other two losers---McCain & Obama---frick & frat, tweedle dee & tweedle dum, Laurel & Hardy---take your pick. Mr. Paul is on the right side of every single issue. If republicans had nominated him, democrats would not have a filibuster-proof majority in the senate, 70 vote majority in the house and the White House to boot. Thanks George W. for all of the above----"heckuva job" George, "heckuva job." Stay in Crawford Dubuya and the GOP has a fighting chance to recover.

Great job once again Jeff. Ron Paul has it spot on about the dangerous direction our country has taken since this Administration came into power. It is not as if all did not hear what this POTUS said during the campaign but that they ignored it or refused to accept it. This nation does not need transformation. There are some things that we could do better. Ron Paul has been a "voice in the wilderness" for a long time. It is good to see that more are listening to him now. I disagree with some of his foreign policy but he has been a true leader when it comes to the Federal Reserve, the UN, Fannie and Freddie to name a few. He swore to uphold and protect the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic and he is doing that. Let's all join him.

Jeff, The "Buzz Right Back" link at the top of the page isn't working! Anyway . . . Seems like every day that goes by, the separation between you and the bubble-headed fools who make up the rest of the media in New Orleans gets greater and greater. Thank you for covering topics of substance, from the Federal Reserve to the march toward socialism/communism to the incredible excitement over a little 74-year-old dude from Texas who got zero attention until a couple years ago. Ron Paul is right: We have reason to be optimistic, but only if we are forever mindful of our ultimate goals of personal liberty, sound money, and (very) limited government.

Thank you Jeff for this excellent article, and for being the only member of the press in attendance. The silence of the so called mainstream media toward the tea parties and Ron Paul is very chilling. Ron Paul and Americans who support FREEDOM are considered BY "OUR" GOVERNMENT to be "home grown radicals" and "right wing extremists", and there are those that would imprison us. We are living in dangerous times , and you are a brave man in a sea of cowards and hippocrites, on your radio and TV show and on this site.
