Corny Louisiana Bobby Jindal Going To Iowa

Written by: Stephen Sabludowsky

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

Here we go again.  .

While Louisiana is recovering from Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike, our Governor is heading to Iowa to talk to a group.  Many pundits believe that with the vacuum in the national Republican Party and with Bobby Jindal getting tremendous airtime on television, he is positioning himself to be the most likely Republican Presidential prospect for 2012.

I have said before and I will repeat it again, I wish he would stay put and serve as Governor of Louisiana for a full focused four-year-term and possibly for an eight year track.

Alternatively, after viewing a recent clip from Hannity and Combs, some might conclude that Louisiana is not on his mind.  It’s Iowa.

Why would he be going to Iowa?  On the tube he said (partly in jest, it appears) because they have nice weather, and corn fields up there.  Then, at the tail end of the interview, he says he has campaigned for others before and he supports the group with whom he is speaking.

Oh, right, so the Iowa primary and a possible Presidential run has nothing to do with his upcoming trip, but, instead it is the weather, campaigning for something in Iowa and supporting an Iowa group he likes?

In reality if being Louisiana Governor is not the job he wants despite the fact he says it is, then, just be frank.  Better yet, he should run against David Vitter for US Senate and get some real federal mileage under his tires.  Then, he can really command the national stage and serve Louisiana with honor.

Bobby Jindal can be the one of the most believable and likable persons I know.  I have tremendous respect for him.  He has put together a tremendous support team who will only get better over time.  They work extremely hard for the Governor they want to serve.  They need a full-time Chief Executive focused on Louisiana problems.  He needs to build bridges with many legislators who will not roll over for him this year.

Worse, his explanation on the video is really kind of “corny”.   It makes him appear fragmented.  He has one foot in national politics keeping Obama straight yet needs his administration and a Democratic Congress to help him as the Louisiana budget goes south.  If he wants to test the national political water, say so.  Meantime, many of us in Louisiana are more concerned about the Gulf waters since that spilled over soaking us and will likely continue to do so until we get the help we so desperately need from the other party which is in power.

Yeah, great post for the poster child there Poster…… Jindal is waaaaaaaaayyyyy out of vogue… 2012? He couldn’t get Kennedy elected as a result of his okeeedokie, and he won’t be able to cause any sway, swing, or noticeable increase in a Republican turnout on the national scene…. And I am sure he isn’t going to forge some mystical bond with Independents or Woman based voter block either……. His novelty, although a strenuously pursued localized media supported quirk, will fall into relative obscurity on the national scene much like Joe the Plumber…………. and Sarah Palin did for that matter……. Why? Because he lacks substance……. Actions, not words are what the population thirsts for……. The Republican party was close at the end of this last campaign now mind you….. You know, the subliminal John Wayne/John McCain thing…….. and the Palin marketing ploy was oh so close, and the only problem that had an additional canceling effect on that approach was McCain’s age and contemplation in the back of the minds that Sarah Palin could become president…….. And she is NO Margaret Thatcher…. and the Anita Bryant image is also out of vogue…… for many decades now…… And Bobby Jindal? Obama cut the deck, and the race card/’brown’ appeal –‘difference’ is now lost in future shuffles, so that tactic is stale as well and has no appreciable bearings or significance in people’s minds…….. And Bobbie’s preppy image? Preppies don’t punt……… Nor do they parachute…….. Or roller blade, or weld, or lay concrete, and surfing is out of vogue, which Piyush never could do in the first place… This is the age of the internet….. Folks are becoming more and more informed.. Obama is fortunate in the fact that there is a large democrat presence in the decision making and policy implementation factors in the near future…. It is all economics and survival…… And ‘ethics’ reform is a dead horse as well, because the realities are; there are no ethics reforms achievable that will change anything in any kind of a noticeable or appreciable fashion…… The continuation of a ‘touchy feely’ campaign while flogging more farts out of the ‘we need to focus on education’ spectrum is an unproductive issue as well….. And those implementations or considerations costs big bucks on top of that.. Obama will be forced to see this, and the teacher’s base will come to realize that they are no more special than the homeless person of the present that they had the opportunity to educate and failed at doing so in the past…. It is reality time….. Now if Piyush could project some kind of educated Pancho Villa image as the errant ‘brown effect’ is actively pursued by his promoters, he might have a chance, but all he will come across as is the Frito Bandito….. And that in the end only equates out as another bowl of salsa and some chips…. I don’t think too many people are going to go for that…. What Jindal needs to be doing right now is focus on Louisiana while causing a way for alternatives which can provoke and promote growth along with personal security enhancements for the common cause and the common citizen to become the working processes…. He is only a paper mache tiger…. And the rest of the nation is far too sophisticated to fall for a ploy such as that…… And maybe, sometime in 30 years or so, if he continues to advance Louisiana, and it becomes a model for the rest of the United States to admire in the future, he might have a shot at his political aspirations of the Presidency of the United States of America……

With the most unpopular president since such polls have been taken, a faltering economy... yet the Republican candidate - with "Miss Airhead" -as you say - "a 72 year old's heartbeat away from the presidency" - yet the Republican candidate STILL managed 46% of the vote (that 3% more than Bill Clinton received in '92). So... just what does McCain receiving "only" 46% mean to you? That only 2% of voters are conservative and the other 44% are racists? Get real. A recent poll shows that Americans identify themselves as: "Moderate" 40-something percent; "Conservative" 30 something percent; "liberal" 20 something percent. Yes Obama won (I'm glad he did) but don't think this election signifies a "great change"... some "significant shift" in peoples' political beliefs. Don't confuse "what you want to happen" with "reality." I do hope the Republican Party drops the Christian Conservative anti-gay crap, but they (as the Dems do with tax increases and gun control) may just be less obvious about it in the future, to garner swing votes and increase their power. This pendulum (which party holds more power) swings to and fro, back and forth... no "great significant change" has occurred.

I enjoy your posts since they are always skeptical about Bobby Jindal. But at times I feel you are obsessed with him. It is not a bad thing as long as you want him to succeed than fail. Why should he not go to Iowa? Is he slacking off at his job in Louisiana? You know that Bobby is intelligent. Just because he is going to Iowa does not mean he will run for POTUS in 2012. You know for a (almost) fact that John Mccain asked him to be VP and he vehemently shot that offer down. People can predict what they want, but Bobby will do his best for Louisiana first and then maybe look at potential POTUS opportunities. Anyways, kudos to the author for always being skeptikal. We need more of you.

Prof, you are right about the spelling which by the way I put into Google and it came up before I published. Yet, I am sorry about the mispelling. As far as the joke, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but then he went on about the corn and the weather. But, the bottom line for me is what I wrote. I would like for him to be focused on Louisiana. If you think the interview helped Louisiana, there was not one word about this great state. There was nothing about how we need a better coast, better hurricane protection, better healthcare and the list goes on. If he is going to be a partisan, that goes against what he said in his victory speech and his press conferences that followed. I say, Bobby, be our Governor. If not, then, be our next Senator. But, please don't play the role of a national talking head when the great people of this state need the basics.

The Jindal Campaign for President is underway. The Iowa caucus is a favorable location for an ideological conservative like Jindal. No Democrats or Independents can cross over like in New Hampshire. Pat Robertson finished 2nd to Bob Dole in Iowa in 1988 and Mike Huckabee won Iowa this year. Jindal needs to win Iowa to have any chance at the 2012 GOP nomination. It may be a head to head battle with the top star of the GOP, Sarah Palin. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty who lives next door could be a strong competitor there as well.

"(partly in jest, it appears)"?? I think anyone can tell that was a joke, which actually went pretty well, since he knows the commentators will be badgering him about the 2012 election. And, of course, it's Hannity and Colmes, not Hannity and Combs. (Just follow the link to the transcript -- Colmes is spelled correctly every time there.)

I am sort of curious, just what are Jindal's political views? I thought he was simply a test tube politician dreamed up and fertilized by the Foster Administration... And as we all know now as a result of the ultimate valuation of one of those Palin kind of marketing tactics, that the significance of his heritage, his preppy outlook, or media advertisement gimicks, it would be reasonable to consider that he is getting more Palin the face every day...

If November 4th proved anything, it should have proved to most observers that Bobby Jindal is too conservative to have broad national appeal. Someone I know met Jindal at a Brown alumni event in New Orleans, and since my friend was "pretty liberal" by Louisiana standards, yet "super conservative" by Ivy League standards, he felt obliged to ask Jindal how he survived four years at Brown - what did the people there think about his political views? Jindal's response: "They usually thought I was joking." TW

But then again, he may be up there mentioning how he can help them avoid flooding in the future due to a joint venture between ST&&&&&&&&&&&&, the State of Louisiana, and Iowa, but I seriously doubt it. He doesn't appear to be that progressive of a thinker... And his economic development gurus and the coastal department whizes figure that is above their paygrade anyways, so I don't suppose he can count on any help from them either.... Some leader..... Sheeeeessshhhhh..
