The only thing certain about the results of the Louisiana US Congressional race 6th District is the uncertainty. With 512 precincts reporting, it appears that “Don” Cazayoux is in a ruoff with Michael Jackson.Cazayoux won 16,596 votes and Jackson received 12,882.Andy Kopplin came in fourth place trailing Jason DeCuir.
On the Republican side, Woody Jenkins is in another very close race.Based upon the Secretary of State unofficial results, he has received 50 percent of the vote, but based upon the actual vote for Jenkins compared to the total votes cast, he is shy of a majority.
However, it is uncertain if he will face runoff competition from his closest competitor Laurinda L. Calongne who received 25% of the vote.Jenkins also ultimately might be declared the winner once the official vote total is tallied.
Depending upon whether there is a runoff for the GOP election, ultimate GOP winner will face the winner of a Cazayoux-Jackson runoff which will occur on May 5.
Also running in the race are independents who will be on the later ballot.
The election was called to fill the seat made available by the retirement of former Congressman Richard Baker, a Republican.
