Baton Rouge—One month ago, victory was so close, yet so far for Woody Jenkins in the 6th Congressional District Election collecting 49.9% of the vote. What a difference a month makes as the former candidate for US Senate, and former Louisiana legislator received 61.94 percent of the Republican runoff vote on Saturday against Laurinda Calogne, who earned 38.06%.In total, over 24,400 votes were cast in the Republican runoff.
Also on Saturday, in the same Congressional District race, “Don” Cazavoux beat out Michael Jackson with 19,803 votes against Michael Jackson’s 15,063 tally as Cazayoux received 56.80 percent of the Democratic electorate vote.In total, over 34,800 voters cast ballots in the Democratic runoff.
The general election is set for May 3 where Cazayoux and Jenkins will be facing Independents in the first closed primary election in approximately 30 years.
The victory for Jenkins on the Republican side has been been viewed as a significant comeback from a very close, but controversial loss to US Senator Mary Landrieu. Now, he must face Democrats and Independents.
