Congressman Bobby Jindal, who is gubernatorial candidate and is leading in the current Governor’s election polls took a high-road in an appearance in front of the Louisiana Republican Party on Saturday night.  The event was to honor prior Republican Governors--Dave Treen, Buddy Roemer and Mike Foster, but, it also gave Jindal a platform to discuss his campaign since he was acting as masters of ceremony.

While he emphasized that Louisiana was last in so many surveys, he compared Louisiana to the New Orleans Saints and their miracle season of 2006.  In making the comparison, he contrasted the 2005 year in which the team went 3-13 and said that the new Saints gave the state tremendous inspiration and results.  His theme was that Louisiana needed a change in leadership and said it needed an environment of success based upon “what you know” rather than “who you know”.

The election for Governor is in the fall of 2007 and unless a major candidate enters the field for either the Republicans or Democrats, the election appears to be a contest between the two candidates who led the field in 2003—Jindal and Governor Kathleen Blanco.

On a controversial issue that resonated throughout Louisiana this week concerning  President Bush’s failure to mention Katrina or Rita in the State of the Union Speech, Jindal said a number of times to Bayoubuzz that he thought it was a mistake for President Bush not to mention “Katrina, Rita,  Louisiana or the ongoing recovery”.  However, Jindal stressed that it is the actions and not the words and that as credible plans are being presented on issues such as coastal erosion, Category 5, and health care the key is the commitment Louisiana gets from Washington. Jindal also said “we need to be grateful, we have received 110 billion” and that President Bush “made a wonderful commitment in Jackson Square in front of the Cathedral” that “we need to make sure that those commitments are now fulfilled as we have these ongoing needs”

Bobby Jindal has done nothing for us. Instead of helping in Congress he was busy running for Governor. He needs to get and keep a job. Sorry, but I am not impressed. Big talk, no action. I voted for Bush, but Jindal's excuse making for Bush's sorry response and continued neglect of Louisiana was sickening. I would not have said this 6 months ago, but I am reconsidering Blanco.

I agree with Jindal on these issues. Even though I am Democrat, I voted for him over Blanco and was disappointed when he lost. If I had my way, my pick would be Jindal or Mary Landrieu for Governor. I especially think Mary Landrieu is committed to Louisiana, New Orleans and its recovery and would do what it takes to get the job done.

Mr. Stewart, Why did you not ask Mr. Jindal if he is doing such a great job the following question: "Louisiana has 7 congressional seats in Washington. Five are held by Republicans, with Melancon and Jefferson the only two Democrats. With our two Senators, one of which is a Republican, why didn't he and his Republican majority get more money for Louisiana's Katrina recovery than Mississippi got? Also, since Mr. Jindal's strongestand perhaps his only quality or attribute is his background and work as Head of the Louisiana Health Care System a few years ago, why does he not explain in layman's terms the proposed medical assistance program that President Bush mentioned in his State of the Union. Governor Blanco is not working to get elected. She is carrying on with the affairs of the State. Just go to the website to find out the progress she made: www.gov.la.state.us 1. click on News on the left hand side of page. 2. then click at the bottom of the page, News Archives. This brings up many other articles. Go to the article of December 29 entitled Louisiana Progress 2006. 3. Louisiana is heading the nation in many ways,,,and especially for educational initiatives..... I predict that come November, the results will be like last time,, 52% Blanco.......48% Jindal In November she had a 12 % popularity,,,now she is at 36% and she is not even politicking yet........ Thanks for reading.
