Did David Vitter rain on Bobby Jindal’s coming out party? My gosh, you talk about drenched. And now, the Louisiana Republican party is split into the Vitter and Jindal camps. Why Vitter chose Monday to make his comeback, only David Vitter knows for sure. But, after attending the Jindal rally in KennerLouisiana (a suburb of New Orleans), there was no question that anger was in the air. One very prominent Republican leader told me off the record that Vitter only cares about himself. So, why Vitter chose one hour before the Jindal rally escapes many.
But, the elections are a long way away and a week or two from now, all of this might not make any difference. Now it all makes for great parlor talk and great gossip at the hair salon, but, when the election bells ring, it will be us versus them. The question obviously is how much damaged goods is David Vitter on the campaign trail should he and Jindal get together and iron out any differences between them.Time will tell.
Jindal was magnificent in his prepared speech and is a wonderful stump speaker. He has promised to provide a detailed blue print for governing and he has the infrastructure to make the plans coherent. In the days of the Internet, these plans do matter.
However, according to Walter Boasso’s campaign, it is the television attacks that make a difference.According their poll summary (they refused to release the poll although they said they would be happy to provide more detailed information) Jindal’s numbers have dropped by ten percent primarily due to their attack ads of “Cardboard Jindal” and according to Boasso’s campaign, the Democratic candidate has increased his poll numbers by 15 percent after spending 1.5 million on television.
According to Boasso, his poll shows the following:
“Boasso has more than tripled his current vote since May, moving from 6% to 21% with just four weeks of a moderate television buy. Currently Jindal leads with 52%, followed by Boasso (21%), Campbell (6%) and Georges (1%). One-in-five voters are still undecided (21%).
Not only has Boasso moved up 15 points, the undecided vote has increased by 7 points, from 14% to 21%. The Boasso television has softened Jindal and Campbell’s support and moved some of their votes to the undecided column. (Campbell’s support is down to 6%, from 9% in May).” The poll was performed by Anzalone-Liszt out of WashingtonD.C..
John Georges, however, has yet to hit the media and will do so prior to Labor Day.He cut commercials this weekend.
.
One of my main complaints about Jindal has been his perceived un-williness to debate.According to a top Jindal official, that will change shortly.Jindal will remain in Congress until recess where he will hit the road with speeches and hit the debates.
While Jindal is a terrific stump speaker, it will be interesting to see how he fares during the debate exchange which normally get most of the attention of the public in the weeks leading up to the election.Four years ago, he excelled and now he has a few years of going around the state understanding more of the issues.
One of the areas that Jindal might have a problem is dealing with the swing vote.During his campaign speech his main target was the Blanco administration. He blamed her for the Road Home program, but in reality, the failure of that the program falls on the federal government and the Blanco administration.
Remember, this is mid-July.The general public is not focused on elections. For seven days they were focused on Vitter and other matters. That could continue assuming more shoes drop.Still, while it is mid-summer, we are still in pre-season.As one friend told me yesterday, there is nothing positive to discuss in Louisiana except for the Saints which is a real turn around over the past thirty-years.It would be nice if we would be able to discuss good government, new programs and people returning to the South Louisiana area.Attacking the current administration and other candidates won’t do that.Showing and discussing detailed workable plans might.
This I know to be fact and it is the only fact that is apparent not only to Louisiana, but the rest of the nation as well. Louisiana as a State needs significant improvements. I cannot speak for politicians, because that’s all they are, politicians. But I can speak for an individual that I know has integrity and also has the way. Within a few short months he could employ over 400 people. Within a years time that number will escalate to well beyond that. He could also put many dozens of people in business for their selves. He has a plan to solve the construction problem in the 9th ward, and his works would not ever be flooded, even if the rest of the city gets it again because of inept Corp of Engineers supervision. He can make many prudent private investors additional incomes. He can even make common individuals wealthy and enabled to provide for their future security and retirement. He can provide safety and security for Louisiana, New Orleans, from a number of nature generated travesties. And he can even protect and restore the marshlands. He has ideas that will increase the fisheries industry significantly as well; He has a plan to save taxpayers multiple billions upon billions of dollars for years to come. The benefits of him, and the contributions that can made are too numerous to list on this thread. In short, it is poetry in motion, if the people want that, progress, real measurable progress. His name is William H. Smith and his website is www.strongconctrete.com in short you should be talking to your elected officials that are now in office about him. Understand for the most part they are simply smack people waiting for the end of their terms, and any candidate running for office should be asked if they are studied in www.strongconcrete.com If they are not, or want to shoot it down, it simply means they are self serving, or are in service to someone else that only wants to grind the state into deeper oppression and lack. The future, and the vote is up to you. More of the same in the upcoming elections? Or do you want change that evens things out and improves our lot as a collective citizenry?

I find it difficult to think of the Boasso ads as "attack ads." I think they're exceedingly well-done. They say nothing negative about Jindal, even calling him the "front-runner." The cardboard cut-out of Jindal is a good, smiling likeness, not a photograph in a goofy pose. Even the imagery of Boasso carrying off or driving off with the cut-out isn't mean-spirited, just a visual that Boasso can contend with Jindal. And perhaps best of all, the ads don't leave the viewer with "a bad taste in the mouth" that attack ads usually do. I think Boasso would be well-advised to keep future ads in the same vein.

RE: Boasso Poll
If the polling data was taken prior to the breaking of the Vitter story last week, I think there is a chance that Jindal's numbers will continue trending downwards. Also, a strong push by Georges could further erode Jindal's support.

If a poll used loaded questions you will never see the details of the poll. But it is also possible that the complete results of a high quality poll might simply point out a weakness that the person paying for the poll wants to find out, but does not want to share with his opponent. Either way you will not get the information unless you are the one paying for it.

I have worked in numerous campaigns. WHENEVER they will not release the details of a poll(and I've been of both ends)...SOMETHING is fishy with poll, trust me.

We need a governor who will fall on the sword for the people, and NOT just the ones who voted for him, but the ones who didn't. So it really should not matter what party the new governor is affilliate with. All i know is he better do right by new orleans or he will be removed quickly.

Sorry everyone. IMHO means In My Humble Opinion. Old Jarhead trust me I have tried to talk to these people who are my relatives and friends. I tell them that it is not Bush that is to blame for all the problems in Louisiana. Louisiana had most of these problems before Katrina and they will have it after Bush leaves office because Louisiana needs good local and state leaders. They are from the District represented by Charlie Boy Melancon. And as he said, The Democrats need a white male to beat Jindal. They have one now and no matter that Boasso was a Democrat before he was a Republican and now a Democrat again. He has a D behind his name and he is more like them, so he gets their vote. Can you hear me screaming now??? As long as the poor and the black communities vote as a block for only Democrats, they can win. And they can still continue to blame Republicans for their problems. It makes no sense, Ole Jarhead but it is true. God Love Them. FWP thank you for sharing the fact that you could actually manage to get to both and was not inconvenienced by either event.

I watched Vitter's press conference yesterday on TV and then made my way to Jindal's announcement for governor at the Airport Hilton. I was there a good 45 minutes before Bobby Jindal spoke. It was a packed house.
I think the many of voters have already made up their minds about who they are going to vote for. After Blanco, Bobby is a no brainer for me.

Well Miss Sharon, don't forget that the poll was done by the Boasso camp, that he refuses to release the poll, (so no-one knows how the questions were worded)and that all we have to go by is what THEY SAY! Sharon you need to talk to those people and show them that Boasso was a Republican turned dem, and that He is NOT the best choice. Remind me again what IMHO means, I am such a DOLT!

This is a fact. When I visited with family and friends earlier, everyone Republican and Democrat was saying they were voting for Jindal. Blanco must go. Exit Blanco from race. Enter Boasso. Last week these same people were saying that Boasso was their guy. Why? He is a Democrat. Oh, I said not always. To that I got a blank stare. I do not live in Louisiana and I know more about the candidates than most of them do. Besides they say, Jindal is not really one of us. Here we go again. IMHO Jindal's popularity amongst Republicans got a boost from comparison with Vitter.
