Bulletin—New Orleans, Louisiana, Surrounded by whites and blacks, republicans and democrats, John Georges announced his candidacy for the position of Mayor of New Orleans. In doing so, he said that he was committed to economic development and fixing the crime problem in New Orleans. He also said that race is an issue in the election and he felt that he could bring the races together but that this discussion needs to be held as part of the election. He also criticized the recent comments made by ex-“New Orleans Recovery Czar”, Ed Blakely.
Most surprisingly and possibly most importantly, Georges told reporters that he was running as a Democrat. Georges had been a republican and then became and independent when he ran for Governor.
Bayoubuzz will supplement this bulletin with more information and videos of his announcement and the press conference.
Not this Republican either. But as much as I hope it comes down to a promising candidate, it'll probably be the lesser of all evils. And when that scenario comes to pass, Georges may be the best option. Written by

Sliding cash into the black ministers' pockets???... <shaking head>.... You're right, Boathead,- when you have money - then you want power. No way I'd vote for Georges. When he ran as an Independent-- I asked him directly, "Are you Republican or Democrat?" He quite charmingly answered, "I'm a Republican- but the Democrats want me too."...........not this Democrat. When you're primary qualification is wealth, you're well on the way to election in a vote-selling city. And if he's in with Copelin and the ministers, he's already setting up his vote-buying operation. Written by

The qualifications for public office are integrity and principles (just not being a crook is often “a better choice” than many incumbents). What their profession may be is not relevant to holding public office. Written by kpf

I'd very much like to see a photo of the folks on the podium as Mr. Georges announced this. I have heard that Georges is courting the ministers with the support of Sherman Coplin. If there is truth to that, I'd love to know it, and I would be hesitant to support anyone carrying that type of baggage. Written by Boathead

Nagin appeared to be an outsider businessman when he got into politics. Everyone assumed he would be different than the typical politician and he was. He embraced corrupt politics and became worse than the typical politician. Unless Georges can come up with a solid platform and convinces us that he will follow through on it, then he will continue to look an awful lot like another outsider who wants his shot at the trough. Obviously he doesn't need the money like Nagin, but when you have all the money you can spend, power is the next thing to covet. Written by

While I think that no one could be worse than Nagin, you have to wonder about a man who swaps parties like most people swap clothes. Then again maybe that makes
John Georges the perfect candidate for Louisiana. Written by Cry over this

What qualifies Georges to be Mayor? He's not a lawyer, doctor, professor or scholar -- Yes, he has a lot of money (not earned; silver spoon syndrone). He has no experience, just desire. I met him at a Civic Assn meeting and found him to be very personable... At the time he was an Independent, but he said he was a Republican. Nice guy, but, he better leave his wife at home. Writteby, dear, it does make seem to be wishy-washy or an opportunist. It will be interesting to see what he "promises" in order to get votes. Right now, he appears to be a typical politician. Written by RhettsWife

Republican, Independent, Democrat??? How about just starting the Whatever party. Whatever it takes to get elected. It's hard to believe that this man really has any principles when he commits to a new political party every time the wind blows. Written by
