KENNER, LA – U.S. Senate candidate John Kennedy this morning  rolled out his campaign for US Senate against Mary Landrieu with a week long bus tour across Louisiana called “Stand Up Louisiana.”

From July 8-11, the “Stand Up Louisiana” Bus Tour will hold campaign events in Kenner, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Alexandria, West Monroe, Bossier City, Natchitoches, Rosepine, Lake Charles, Houma and Mandeville.

Here are excerpts From John Kennedy’s Remarks – As Prepared For Delivery:

“This campaign is a battle between those who like the things just the way they are in Congress and in Washington, and those of us who want real change. It’s that simple.”

“My opponent believes Washington is working just fine for us. I disagree.”

“Now I realize that talk’s cheap. That’s why I’m proud of my record of standing up for taxpayers, of standing up for reform. I’ve made some powerful people mad over the years.”

“Louisianans want change. Mary Landrieu does not. Let’s debate it. The more, the better, We should debate the issues in every Congressional District in this state. I challenge Senator Landrieu to agree.”

“This week our campaign is rolling across Louisiana on our ‘Stand Up Louisiana’ Bus Tour. I think ‘Stand Up Louisiana’ is the right name. Because that’s exactly what folks are doing all across Louisiana. They’re standing up against politics as usual. They’re standing up against the old Louisiana way. They’re standing up against the good ole boy – and girl – politics and they are demanding reform.”

“So, if you want to change the Senate, you have to change the Senator.”

In an email statement to the media, his communications director, Leonardo Alcivar said, “Our campaign’s latest fundraising totals are below.  We expect to be outraised this quarter by our opponent - through Election Day, actually.

Notably, we’re excited about our grassroots success. We doubled the total number of donors to our campaign, 85 percent of whom are right here in Louisiana.”

The bus tour was met with comments from Brian Welsh of Louisiana Victory 2008, who said in an email:

Today, the Kennedy for U.S. Senate campaign released the following fundraising numbers for the Second Quarter of 2008:

Fundraising Totals:

Second Quarter Total Receipts:                                                           $1.48 Million

Cumulative Receipts:                                                                           $3.59 Million

Cash-On-Hand:                                                                                    $2.7 Million

Additional Facts:

                                                                                                              1ST Quarter        2nd Quarter

Total Number Of Donors Has Doubled:                                                831              1589

Percentage Of Total Receipts From Louisiana Donors:                       84%             85%

Never mind that just four years ago he ran for US Senate as "not just another election day Democrat" and forget that he ran for re-election as State Treasurer a mere seven months ago on the slogan that "the job is not done" John Neely Kennedy, political opportunist extraordinaire, will officially kick off his third campaign in four years as a Republican for Senate today. And you can count on Kennedy for Whatever to be there with up to the minute reports of this daring test of political flexibility.

Marvel. . . as Kennedy attempts to shift his political ideology from liberal to conservative in one single bound.

Gaze in wonder. . . as Kennedy cuddles up to President George W. Bush who he called "cold and mean", whose opponent he endorsed in 2004 and whose tax policy he called "nonsense on a stick."

Stare in utter disbelief. . ..as one man sheds his principles and sacrifices his character all in the name of political opportunism.

State Republican Party chairman Roger Villere says that John Kennedy "can't run" from the questions concerning Kennedy's sacrifice of principles and ideology.  But Chairman Villere didn't count on John Kennedy running from these questions, in a bus!

The Landrieu campaign told Bayoubuzz that it is not issuing a statement concerning the Kennedy tour.  It also said it would be releasing its campaign numbers very soon.
