BATON ROUGE – Britton Loftin has been named Executive Director of the Louisiana Democratic Party, according to Chairman Chris Whittington.

Loftin replaces Danny Ford, who has begun work as a political consultant in the private sector.

Hired as a field organizer in 2006, Loftin helped create a network of issue-based and grassroots campaigns across 29 parishes in north Louisiana while strengthening local and parish Democratic community involvement. Having been named Field Director in 2007, Loftin went on to forge lasting coalitions among educators, labor leaders, volunteers and legislators in efforts to enhance relationships within the state Democratic Party.

Prior to joining the Louisiana Democratic Party, Loftin spent years in his native Mississippi managing campaigns at all levels of government. Loftin has extensive experience in all phases of campaigns from grassroots initiatives and volunteer coordination to fundraising and field training.

“I am very pleased with our selection of Britton Loftin as our new Executive Director. In a year of important campaigns that are vital to all Democrats, Loftin comes to the position without the need for on-the-job training. He knows the players, works very well with the staff and has the respect and support of our Executive Committee members and Democrats across the state. Both myself and our Executive Committee feel assured Loftin will help the Party continue to progress and strengthen under his leadership,” said Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Chris Whittington.

The Executive Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the party and works with the Party staff.  Currently, there are elections involving democrats in the 1st and 6th Congressional Districts.

In light of Loftin’s promotion, the Louisiana Democratic Party is now accepting resumes to fill the position of Regional Field Director. For more information on the position, including job description and requirements, interested applicants may visit the Louisiana Democratic Party website at www.lademo.org. The deadline to submit resumes is Monday, April 7, 2008.
