Louisiana Demos: Will Kennedy Also Plead the Fifth?

Written by: BayouBuzz Staff

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

Baton Rouge, Louisiana-- With it appearing increasingly likely that Senator David Vitter will be called to testify in the Deborah Jean Palfrey trial and intends to invoke the fifth amendment, Chris Whittington, Chairman of the Louisiana Democratic Party called on state treasurer John Kennedy to explain his relationship with the disgraced senator, who, as of late, has assumed the role of Kennedy fundraiser and political benefactor.  The questions show that the Democratic Party is attempting to take advantage of the David Vitter testimony issue and allow it to spill over onto the Louisiana US Senate race currently pitting US Senator Mary Landrieu against Louisiana Treasurer, John Kennedy, who has recently converted to the Republican Party.  There are claims that Kennedy was wooed by Karl Rove to take on Senator Landrieu and President Bush is coming to the aid of Kennedy.

"Instead of resigning and sparing the people of Louisiana the shame and embarrassment of having a sitting US Senator plead the fifth in a prostitution ring trial, David Vitter has decided to cling, for pride's sake, to his office.

"Meanwhile, Mr. Kennedy, desperate to gain traction in his latest bid for higher office is hitching his wagon to this disgrace of a Senator.

"Mr. Kennedy owes the people of Louisiana some answers when it comes to his relationship with Senator Vitter," Whittington said. "The question is, will he also plead the fifth?"

Eight Questions for John Kennedy

  • Senator Vitter is claiming that he is a co-host in your upcoming fundraiser with President Bush. Is this true?

  • If so, why then did you leave Senator Vitter's name off of the invitation to the fundraiser?

  • Would you accept help in your race from Senator Larry Craig? Mark Foley? Eliot Spitzer?

  • Had Senator Vitter admitted his relationship with the DC Madam in 2004, would you have referenced this fact in your 2004 Senate race against him?

  • Do you think it is right for David Vitter to plead the Fifth, as his attorney has claimed he will, if he is called to testify in the Deborah Jean Palfrey trial?

  • Do you believe Senator Vitter embodies Louisiana's family values?

  • Would you participate in a family values events with David Vitter?

  • Do you intend to support David Vitter in his re-election for Senate in 2010?

In other political news involving David Vitter, the GOP has released a letter showing that he and others are in full support of Steve Scalise and Woody Jenkins and are urging the GOP and others to support the two candidates for Congress.

Here is the letter from the GOP:

Governor Bobby Jindal, U.S. Senator David Vitter, and U.S. Representatives Jim McCrery, Rodney Alexander, and Charles Boustany have joined the Republican Party of Louisiana in officially endorsing Senator Steve Scalise and former State Representative Woody Jenkins to fill the open seats in the First and Sixth Congressional Districts.

Following the first closed primary in Louisiana in over 30 years, Republican voters have decided in overwhelming fashion that Steve Scalise and Woody Jenkins are the conservative leaders needed to represent the Republican Party in the special elections to take place on May 3rd.  Woody Jenkins has promoted conservative values and principles in the state legislature for nearly three decades.  He has received endorsements from The Club for Growth, FRC Action, The National Taxpayers Union, The National Rifle Association, and other leading conservative groups.

Governor Bobby Jindal said, “Steve Scalise and Woody Jenkins are strong conservatives who will be great advocates for Louisiana in the United States Congress. At a time when our delegation is experiencing turnover, it is more important than ever that our congressional members speak with one voice and that we clearly communicate the needs of our state as we continue to rebuild from the storms of 2005 and work to revamp our economy and workforce development system to make Louisiana the best place in the world to raise a family and get a great career. I look forward to working with Steve and Woody to make these priorities a reality."

Roger F. Villere, Jr., Chairman of the Republican Party of Louisiana said, “In 28 years of service to the voters of the Baton Rouge area, Woody Jenkins has never once voted to raise taxes.  He has been a champion of the pro-life movement, a leader in the defense of Second Amendment rights, and an advocate of family values.”

“As a state legislator, Steve Scalise has always been a conservative leader. He has stood by his principles to protect our families.  Steve Scalise has stood for lower taxes, eliminating wasteful spending, and reforming our political system,” he said.

“Woody and Senator Scalise have the leadership, the experience, and the unparalleled legislative abilities that are exactly what the great state of Louisiana needs to ensure that its voice is heard.  We will be sending two men who will work tirelessly for Louisiana and lead the fight to take back Congress for the American people,” said Villere.

U.S. Senator David Vitter said, "Steve and Woody represent the common-sense conservative values we need representing Louisiana here in Washington.  Both have great experience serving in the state legislature and would be strong advocates for cutting taxes, stopping runaway spending and fighting amnesty for illegal immigrants."

U.S. Representative Jim McCrery said, "There is no ambiguity with Woody Jenkins. You know exactly where he stands. He is unapologetically conservative, but when you're adamant about shrinking government and cutting taxes so people can keep more of the money they earn, you don't have to apologize. A quick check into his background or a short conversation with him is all it takes to know he'll be a tireless advocate for the 6th District and all of Louisiana."

U.S. Representative Rodney Alexander said, "I’m looking forward to working with Steve Scalise and Woody Jenkins to advance the conservative agenda in Congress.  Both Steve and Woody believe in the conservative agenda, and I will gladly work with them in Congress to move Louisiana and the conservative agenda forward."

U.S. Representative Charles Boustany said, "Steve will be an effective voice for the First District, able to provide solutions and strong leadership.  I look forward to working with him in the general election to maintain an important seat for Louisiana Republicans.”

“Woody is a strong campaigner, and I will work to ensure he has the resources he needs to effectively get his message out to the people in the Sixth District.  He represents the values of the Sixth District, which Richard Baker served so well,” said Boustany.

Governor Jindal, U.S. Senator Vitter, U.S. Representatives McCrery, Alexander, and Boustany and the Republican Party of Louisiana urge all citizens to vote for Steve Scalise and Woody Jenkins on May 3rd.  (Bayoubuzz emphasis)

To date, the Louisiana Democratic Party has not questioned Scalise or Jenkins about the Vitter support of their candidacies as the Louisiana Democratic Party did about the Vitter-Kennedy relationship.   Nor has the Louisiana Democratic Party called for the resignation of William “Bill” Jefferson who has been indicted by the federal government.

What on earth does Vitter have to do with the Naval officer, (Naval officer, nayuck-nuck-nuck it isn't like he tickled 'her' belly button from the inside or anything like that) and how does he 'just let her suffer'? I enjoy multi faceted style thinking, observations, contemplations, but yours seem to just be some kind of weird 'obsession'.

Kelly Haggar, Thank you for posting that.It looks like Vitter walks away as free as bird and yet he let`s the women suffer.

Drudge has linked to a story about a 16 year Navy officer (with 3 years prior enlisted so she could almost retire) being forced out for prostitution. She worked for Palfrey from Oct 05 to Apr 06 while she was the assigned to the Naval Academy. She testified under a grant of immunity. Thus, on that time line, Vitter was not one of her Johns. However, suppose he had been. What would be different if she had said, "By the way, one of my customers was the then-Rep. Vitter."?

No he is protected by some right to privacy that he has the aclu fighting his case with. So at this point Larry Craig has not been sentenced for any crime. Funny a republican getting the Aclu to fight their case.<G> Now Jefferson needs to go but he has not said it was alright for doing anything, he is deny all charges. Vitter is not deny he had a hooker and if it is alright for the man who is so holy and above everyone else, he should make it Legal for everyone. How can he sit and refuse to tell the truth,as he watches them put the woman in jail that only helped him. Proves he thinks womem are beneath him and he only cares about himself.

Diaperman is right. Now that Bill Jefferson has been indicted for extortion, etc., he should file bills to make those things legal. And Derrick Shepherd can make file bills to make money laundering legal. Anything less would be hypocritical. That Diaperman logic is a wonderful thing.

And Larry Craig did break the law, that's why he plead guilty. He should be run out of office and out of Idaho.

Diaperman, If Vitter's plan to prevent abortion was to make having sex illegal, you might have a point. Last time I checked, sex between consenting adults was legal, but if they're careless and make a baby, then the issue of life and death comes into play. I'm sure you don't really care, but I just wanted to point this out so the people forced to read your repetitive bull$hit don't forget the distinction between making babies and killing babies.

Larry craig did not break the law. Larry Craig was able to stay in office because Vitter broke the law and did not resign. Will Vitter push to make Prostitution Legal for all? Will he now give women the right to Abortion? Is he now for same sex marriage? If sex does not matter, then he should for these things, instead of being a hypocrite and saying sex does not apply to Vitter only.

Craig is liar and pervert and he's still lying about it. Vitter got caught screwing around and admitted it. If I'm stuck with sleazebags in office in Louisiana, I'd prefer one who's screwing whores over one who's extorting and laundering money, and taking kickbacks. Hard to handicap the hypocrite race between a family values Republican who does whores, and a help-the-poor-black-man democrat who launders hundreds of thousands, or takes bribes to run programs at the expense of failing schools, or pockets wads of cash from Edwin Edwards. One gets the cash, the other gets a grin on his face. It's rare to see a politician, egomanics that they all are, who isn't trying to screw someone other than their spouse. And I mean that in the literal sense. Some choose professionals for their romances, some choose amateurs.

Then just admit Larry craig and Vitter prove the republican are Liars and hypocrites. They call for others to walk the false high moral ground, while they play nasty in the gutter. I can understand if you want to make same sex marriage legal and are pro-abortion, because you could claim sex has no place in politics. Now Woody fits real well in between Vitter and craig.

Whittington goes public and makes it clear that he is a political whore who'll do or say anything in a (sadly too often successful) attempt to mislead the ignorant Louisiana voter base that gives them their majority. I'll bet he misses his enforcer, Bob Odom, who was too stupid to speak publicly, but plenty corrupt and arrogant enough to strongarm people behind the scenes. But they're democrats, so it's all for the benefit of the "little people" and the "working man."

Chris Whittington doesn't have enough moral standing to be asking anyone to explain anything. This is the same shill that fabricated the most despicable lies about Governor Jindal during the campaign trying to pit north LA Protestants against south LA Catholics. How more telling of the entire Dimocrat delegation and their character, or the lack thereof, by reelecting Whittington as Chairman of their "Good Old Boy" Party? Vitter has not been indicted, because there is NO PROOF of a crime. Luckily for Vitter, and many of the posters here, stupidity is not a crime, but it is certainly worthy of forgiveness by those decent enough to give it. John Kennedy is a good and decent man who obviously has more character than Whittington has ever seen. Whittington's (and this site's?) attempts to manipulate public opinion by whatever means necessary is a clear indicator that the Dim's will forget the truth in the upcoming Senate election as they have certainly lost all sight of all morality.

It is ashame that one is automatically branded a "Liberal" if someone critisizes certain members of a conservative party. I do not always agree with either party and I am not satisified with any of the three potential Presidential candidates; however that is too common today in politics. Jefferson should resign if proven guilty!! Vitter has already admitted guilt!!

I'd rather my daughter get paid for sex, than to be tricked into it by some slick-a$$ politician like Bill Clinton. I'll guarantee you that the majority of extramarital sex engaged in by our fine public servants is not on a cash basis (unless you count the government payroll check that the women get so they'll be obligated to the sleazebags). Have you ever been to a session of the Louisiana legislature or to a legislative reception to see that whoremongering spectacle in person? It's disgusting.

Sorry folks, especially "swamp-irish", but I haven't posted a reply until now. I had no idea that you are a liberal dear lady, I am very sorry that you are. Why is it that if you defend Vitter you are automatically a republican or a conservative? Heck, there were several dimocrats that supported Vitter. Vitter is a pompous spoiled brat, who has done a fairly admirable job for us conservatives down here. When he runs for re-election we'll have to see who is running against him. He cheated on his wife, will he do it again? Who knows. If he cheated on his wife he can't be trusted. Back to the original point, why isn't Whittington demanding that Jefferson resign?? Is it because he is a dimocrat? There is to much partisan politics. We need true public servants who represent the people.

swamp-irish, Just like a liberal dupe to not know (or admit) she's liberal. Anyone who attacks conservatives using terms like "doesn't care about average man or woman" and being a member of the "good ole working class" is a liberal. Things aren't great in this country. But rather than just assuming that switching to a democrat in the white house will fix it, consider the times we live in. Radical muslim terrorists, global economies, ascendancy of the Chinese and that impact on manufacturing and energy and ..., South American dictators, illegal immigration, I happen to believe that our challenges won't be met in a short-term fix and our problems will require constant work to manage. And I also believe that conservative government is a better tool to get that work done than liberal government. It's ridiculously naive to vote democratic because you simply want to "change" things. If you really believe that democrats can offer specific changes, and you think you understand that the complete impact, reactions and consequences of those specific changes, will be positive and well managed by democrats, then take the friggin plunge and see what happens. If you think more government, more taxes, wealth redistribution, and less personal responsibility are the answers, vote democrat.

Republican supporters must be so proud of their party now. Jindal has out spent Blanco and now this problem with Vitter pops back up. Jindal and Vitter are proving the republican party is nothing but liars and Hypocrites. They say it is Vitters right to abuse a womans body because he paid her, but yet it is not her right to control her own body and have a abortion. Vitter hiring a hooker means nothing because sex should not be part of politics, but yet Vitter has said we need a law against same sex Marriage. The Republicans are nothing but Hypocrites as they defend Vitter and then say others must follow their false high morals.

"So-called conservative" is right Grandmother. True conservatives are secular as concerns government; desire all to be as successful as possible and desires to hold no one down; does not want one shred of government interference in our private lives other than what is absolutely necessary; does not wish to become involved in the "spats" among other countries, again unless absolutely necessary. Outside of Buchanan and Paul I don't think I've ever seen a true conservative politician. Very few true liberals for that matter, mainly posturing phonies who unfortunately are all too effective at misleading the American public.

swamp-irish, Just knowing that people like you are out there voting is enough for me to give up on the political system. But if you ran for office, I'd support you because you'd be better than all of the democrats you currently support. At least until you learned the ropes and began using the system to screw us all, just like your heroes. A new liberal populist politician is always better than an old one, because it takes a few years for you to really perfect screwing things up. But there are lots of democratic old timers in office waiting to teach you "the way", just like crack dealers looking for new customers.

Chris Wittington is an idiot. Where is his outrage at Rep Jefferson and his wrong doings? You know what's wrong with politics...politicians! Self serving race baiting, sh.t stirring wanna be political big wigs both republican and democrats alike. Kennedy left the Democratic party because they have become the special interest party the liberal left leaning party. During the last senate race they treated him like a leper. The democrats of my Dad's day were not these Nancy Pelosi, Hillary, Melancon democrats that don't give a damn about the common everyday working man and woman!
