Louisiana Emperor Jindal Has No Clothes

Written by: Jeff Crouere

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

“I think Governor Jindal would be far and away the best candidate for Vice President in the country.” Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich

Bobby Jindal is the “next Ronald Reagan.” Rush Limbaugh

In the Hans Christen Andersen classic, the emperor pranced around town in what was supposedly a beautiful wardrobe; however, in reality, he was naked. Just like the Emperor, Jindal has been showing up all over the country, being hailed as a strong conservative. Yet, here in Louisiana, we know the truth about Jindal, which is that his image does not match the truth.

Jindal is being hailed as a strong conservative. In fact, conservatives are being told by Gingrich, Limbaugh and other Republicans that Jindal represents the future of the GOP, a rising star. Some desperate Republicans even believe that Jindal can save the party from defeat this fall. Today, Jindal is treated as a rock star in the Republican Party, which shows what an abysmal condition the Republican Party is in. While Jindal is a guest on national television shows regularly, and was featured on CBS “Face the Nation” on Sunday, he studiously avoids appearing on Louisiana media programs. He appears on national shows because he knows that he will receive easy questions about his potential vice presidential nomination on the GOP ticket. In contrast, here in Louisiana, Jindal avoids controversy and will not appear on programs that are critical of him.

He also avoids conflicts in dealing with Louisiana legislators, just look at how he has handled the uproar over the legislative pay raise. A bill to double legislative pay will probably reach Jindal’s desk soon. Although he is opposed to the pay raise, Jindal will not veto the measure and is trying to claim that he does not want to interfere with an internal legislative issue. This stance is incredibly weak and is not going over well with the public, who is very angry over the raises. In fact, Jindal’s handling of the issue is hurting his popularity here at home.

Limbaugh, Gingrich and others should take a closer look at what is happening here. On the hallmark issues of fiscal conservatism, less government spending and lower taxes, Jindal has shown a more liberal tendency as Governor. The initial budget he submitted to the legislature was larger than his liberal predecessor. With a surging budget, helped by rising oil and gas prices and a large surplus, Jindal had to be dragged “kicking and screaming” to the bargaining table with legislators who wanted to reduce income taxes. Eventually, a small tax cut was passed, but it will not take effect until 2009. Ironically, the legislative pay raise will start on July 1. If he cannot stand down Louisiana legislators, how can he serve as Vice-President, one heartbeat away from the presidency? Jindal may be called upon to deal with terrorists and enemies of the United States. Americans need a Vice President who could step in as President and deal with numerous threats from abroad.

Before Jindal is considered for a national ticket, he needs more seasoning and experience. He also needs to grow a backbone and learn how to deal with conflict in a direct manner. Most importantly, Jindal needs to establish much more of a conservative record as Governor.

The reality of the Jindal administration is that this emperor has no conservative clothes. His admirers from afar can scream and shout all they want about what a great conservative he is, but the citizens of Louisiana who know him best and see him regularly know that the truth. His supposed conservative credentials are really not there, just like the emperor’s clothes. So, Newt, Rush and John McCain, keep looking for your conservative champion, Bobby Jindal is not your man

Jindal you are not fooling me, by laughing and telling the truth. You mind control is not working because I know this laugh is not coming from- Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha.... U PROLE!!!!!!!!!!! -, it can only be coming from our Governor as he laughs at his own supporters. You may have double the legislators pay but I see where you and your hand picked man Mr Tucker, will not waste tax money on giving policemen and firemen another dime. Jindal knows which people are important to him. Mr Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha.... U PROLE!!!!!!!!!! you will fool me no more, because I will always know the sound of that laugh as it come from the governors mansion.

I have no problem Letting Blanco fade if Jindal will quit his false ads claiming credit for her work. You are probably one of Jindals staff members so can you tell us why he letting these false ads run ? Can you answer why Jindal thinks his own voters are to stupid to see he is rewarding his buddies with this historical pay raise ? Here is easy one for you, just tell us why he has allowed over 24 bills to become law without even bothering to show up and sign them ?

Jindal is letting a ad run showing him taking credit for tax cuts made by governor blanco. He is even taking credit for the tax cut he fought against. Now as he is paying off his buddies by giving them the biggest pay raise in Louisiana history, he is getting staff members to post in his defense. At we know why he needed to bust the spending cap. He knew then he would break his word and need the extra money to pass out pay raises for his buddies and hand picked speaker of the house.

I kind of agree with you BigD - compromise is often the only way to get things in politics. Unfortunately this "compromise" often involves ever-larger government spending. In time we'll see if this bunch in office is more fiscally responsible or not. If they cut back spending and reduce taxes I'll gladly see them get a pay increase. It sure would have been prudent of them to have cut taxes first (uh...duh). They are either arrogant or stupid - maybe both.

Yesterday the elevator to the 4th floor was very, very busy ferrying liegislators in and out of the Gov's office. The Shreveport Times said the Governor's office offered the ammendment to only doubling the salaries (down from triple). Do you hear where this ammendment originated???? Why would anyone think he would veto a bill he offered? I just hope this ALL hits national media. Jindal has shown his true colors.

Why don't you give the man a chance? Do you think that the government runs without some deal making? Everyone wants what is best for the people he or she represents (unfortunately in Louisiana they want what is best for them personally) and there must be compromise. If Jindal worked a deal then he did so to salvage higher principals then the pay raise. I am willing to give him the benefit on this one and wait to see what happens. Why don't we the voters quit crying about the politicians and take action to vote them out. If you don't like the pay raise write your representative and vote for the other guy - don't blame Jindal - he didn't get a raise. Do you think for the past hundred years the crooked politicians voted themselves in office? No people voted based on what was in it for them and this is what we get. Don't cry - take action. Don't blame Jindal - get behind him on changing the state and be objective - it isn't easy to reverse a hundred years of self serving politicians. If he fails change leaders but at least give him a chance to fail.

Jindal's behaivior on the pay raise issues implies there was a secret deal on ethics reform and the legislature is being compensated for what it gave up earlier. If Jindal reneges on the deal and vetoes the bill he'd better hope McCain picks him for VP.

Yesterday I was buying a large bag of Purina Dog Chow for Athena the wonder dog at Wal-Mart and was about to check out...... A woman behind me asked if I had a dog... What did she think I had, an elephant? So, since I'm retired, with little to do, on impulse, I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, and that I was starting the Purina Diet again...... I continued on adding that although I probably shouldn't, because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IV's in both arms......... I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet, and the way that it works is to load your pants' pockets with Purina nuggets, then simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry....... The food is nutritionally complete, so I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story.)...... Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me.... I told her no.... I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's ass and a car hit us both....... I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack, he was laughing so hard!............ WAL-MART won't let me shop there anymore.

Jindal can not veto this pay raise because tucker will expose the backroom deal Jindal cut with them to pass his phony ethics bills. This is nothing more than Jindal paying off his people for their support. Tucker even says he is one of jindal`s very own and Jindal is the one who picked Tucker. Did Jindal pick Tucker because he would be easy to buy off?

I am no fan of ANY of our elected officials, including the late great President Reagan for that matter. I distrust Homo sapiens as a whole, in fact. Nevertheless, no pay raise in 28 years?! I cannot help but believe that many who critisize this would howl if they were in similar circumstances. Besides, rest assured our politicos waste far more of our wages than this pay raise. Really when you factor in the federal government this is but a tiny portion of tax money that is taken from us without providing any tangible benefit back to the citizenry. I personally am far more incensed over being cast as a slave laborer for foreign governments - at least that is how I feel about our D.C. "public servants" giving aid (uh... dat's a portion of our wages Cher-bebe) to foreign governments - many of whom are oppressive and tyrannical.

As a former Louisiana resident (I grew up here and left the state for college and the military) I decided to give the state "another try." After being here less than six months, I am once again disappointed by our state government, and this pay raise is the capstone on the corruptive framework that is Louisiana politics. I did not find out about this raise until I heard of it on a radio morning show, the day of the vote. Predictably, I was unable to contact any of my state reps at their offices to voice displeasure. Now, Jindal is refusing to veto an obvious bit of corruption. I did not vote for Gov. Jindal in the election; I was still serving overseas. I did, however, approach his office with an open mind. He did, after all, promise to attack corruption within the state. Something that is, in my opinion, the most pressing problem in Louisiana. This was. quite literally, the first opportunity for Jindal to fight the old boy network and the corruption. And he backed down immediately. I think it is quite obvious that Gov. jindal is more interested in maintaining his image as a potential Vice President, which is a shame. The citizens of LA put their trust and faith in him to lead us into national relevancy, and he has already abandoned us mere months after his inauguration. I also take issue with the legislature voting a payraise for themselves only two months after voting down a bill that would raise pay for state employees. My mother works for the state (and has for close to 30 years) and had to see about 25% of her office laid off last month, while her office's workload has actually increased. For this voter (and I vote in every election), Gov. Jindal has a considerable amount of ground to make up in order to earn my vote for his re-election. But that point is probably moot, as I suspect that he has much bigger fish to fry than our poor little state has to offer.

Louise, Louisiana was 26th/28th in pay before the raise. They are now in the top 10 percent. This is truly outrageous. The big loser of course is the taxpayer who generally end up on the short end of the stick. I am very disappointed in Governor Jindal. I think he will find out that this will only embolden those who do not want him to succeed. This is the fight he should have taken on. We will see if the people chose to punish him or those who decided to vote themselves this raise so soon after an election.

We did not vote Bobby Jindal in the last governors race and we are glad we did not. The fact is little has changed after this state experienced one of our nations most horrific natural (or manmade) disasters. Louisiana functions much like a 3rd world country does with the tourism industry the only thing we can really count on other than gas and oil which is still controlled by a good ole boy network. I love the slogan "Please Lord give us another oil boom and we promise not to piss it away this time." We are still hitting the bottom of all the lists and this pay raise now puts us in a top 20-25 list. Not the list we were hoping for. The only thing that makes us desireable is our rich culture and not our leadership nor our political ethics. We continue to make the same mistakes in this state over and over and over never breaking the pattern of self destruction.

Jeff, dear, we said the same thing before he was elected governor. A person whose only claim to fame was through appointment, elected through rhetoric, a poor representative of the district from which he was elected. He is a facade that needs to be struck down and a strong building - that is a person of character, determination, and service for the public and not for himself. In other words, Jeff, dear he is one big phoney - a typical political hack. Need we say more about Pi.

Back in '81 Reagan told the striking air traffic controllers they had 48 hrs to get back to work or they would be fired and he followed through. If Mr. Jindal does not veto this pay raise and demand that they put together a more reasonable package that isn't tied to the CPI or Congress, is lower, and that doesn't go into effect until the next election cycle, he is nothing more than an empty suit. All his talk before the elections wil be proved to be lies!

Jeff as I told you in another email, this has not hit the National Media yet but if Jindal does not take this issue and the Legislature head on, his image nationally for the present will be hurt. His refusal to veto obvious legislative excess does not bode well as someone who would have to deal with the Legislative Branch in DC. Ronald Reagan always went directly to the people. Here Jindal has an electorate that is outraged. Veto the thing and dare the Legislature to override. Then let the Legislature try to hold up reform. You, Chad, and Stephen will be sure that all the taxpayer will know if and when that happens. All he has to say is that he has listened to the people and he agrees with them and this issue must wait until the next election. This proves to me that Jindal is not ready for the "big time". He needs to learn to use his power as governor first. He is plenty bright enough. I think he is rather naive to think that the legislature cares what the people has to say when it comes to their benefits.
