Louisiana Governor Jindal Claims Legislature Stoppage Issue Over Pay

Written by: BayouBuzz Staff

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

BATON ROUGE - Today, Governor Bobby Jindal released the following statement on the pay raise vote in the House;

"I still disapprove of this pay raise.  While I'm glad they reduced it, it's still more than a doubling of their pay, which I believe is excessive.  The legislature is a separate branch of government and must manage their own affairs. There is still time for them to turn back. They will have to answer directly to the people.

"One thing is for sure, I will not bail them out on this and do their job for them.  I will not veto this as it is very clear to everyone that the result would be a grinding halt to the tremendous reforms and progress our state is making.  I will give them no excuse to stop doing the people's business, and I will not allow the momentum of our state to stop over this or anything else."

Bayoubuzz Note:  Does this sound like political extortion or bribery for legislator's personal purposes--personal pay increases?  Shouldn't the inspector general get involved in this matter?  Then, why doesn't Governor Jindal threaten a veto?  More importantly, why doesn't he just veto the legislation should it pass?  What deal did he make, if any?   Does the Governor's statement make sense to you?  Talk about these issues below:

The vote:

I didn't believe in him, and I didn't vote for him either.... So I suppose I should be thankful it wasn't one of those fool me once fool me twice type ordeals...... Well folks, break out with the hip waders, I have a feeling the bovine scatology is going to start getting stacked to even higher elevations here in the near term....

Give Jindal credit for one thing. Never has one man ,made fools out of so many people all at the same time. His voters believed in him and now he is sitting back laughing at how stupid his own voters were. He is trying to tell his voters he did not veto this, just to help them.

When "we the people" realize that "that was campaign talk, not really what would happen" is ALL we're ever going to get from ANY politician - Republican or Democrat, black or white, male or female - and that the only way to get responsible government is to place AS MUCH governmental power AS IS POSSIBLE directly in the peoples hands... then... we and our offspring will continue to be 1) financially raped 2) disappointed 3) outraged 4) flabbergasted 5) hoodwinked 6) bamboozled (u get da pernt).

"I will not veto this as it is very clear to everyone that the result would be a grinding halt to the tremendous reforms and progress our state is making." No, Gov, is is NOT very clear to many of us at all!!! As was mentioned already, what sort of underhanded agreements did you have with the Legislators that would allow you to "sell out" us, the people who voted for you??? And we sit and wonder why people from around the country look down on good ole' boy country Louisiana???????? I think the questions as to why has just been laid to rest. Will it ever really change? Obviously not, even tho' that's what the Gov promised. Oh, excuse me. That was campaign talk, not really what would happen, right???

Jindal's statement is utter nonsense. Veto the bill and dare the legislature to override it. Why would anything grind to a halt? I can only believe that Jindal secretly supports the pay raise.

Ahhhhh, back to absurdities..... The position of recall would seem to imply that the legislatures are not doing what the voter wanted in the first place, and it would seem to imply that there is a unified position inherent to every voting member of the population………… But if numbers serve me correctly, there were a larger number of non-voters than there were voters in the elections……. And so now, those that voted are miffed because the reason the larger majority, or the ‘non-voter’ chose not to vote is clear……… So tell me, RECALL RECALL RECALL faction, who or where is it that you are going to find the ‘chosen’ ones that are going to do right??????????? Are you saying we should install those that lost during the elections in their stead??????? Are you saying that it is only on the issue that they voted their selves a raise is there a reason to cast them out, and not on any other act or inaction???????? Do any of you even have the basic understanding of cause and effect??????? This all sounds like an air biscuit to me………………..

It is simple, dears, recall Piyush for his lack of steel and recall every legislator who voted in favor for their greed. No raise since the '80s. Well, dears, perhaps a 3% occasional raise as given to retired teachers of this state may have been given. However, that is not enough for the legislators who do little in the first place. RECALL, RECALL, RECALL. We smelled it at the Congressional Country Club last evening where we dined. Yes, dear, you read correctly and we still say RECALL. Dears, we are not even remotely related to any politician living or dead. Will be back from the plantation in Virginia early in the week. We will be entertaining on our own verandah in Louisiana there.

The only thing I have seen the Guv take a strong stand for or against, is his closed mouth strong stand against STRONGCONCRETE............... Oh, and that grown men shouldn't be allowed to have sex with females under 18....... But I thought that was already a known factor............... Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...... (But then again, I have a few inlaws here in Louisiana that have cousins that were married at 13, so I really wonder what the real fuss is about?) Oh, dayammmm, I opened an 18 year old can of worms!~!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weak excuse. Stand firm and hold your ground. Push back if you have to. This man caved in before it was even passed.

Evidently the governor is not runnning the show. I believe he is the first governor who did not carry a big stick. Jindal was not crazy about being governor. It is just a stop over for vp or the pres? La. is not important in his scheme of things. Oh, yes. He's a Christian. I think he is saying no matter what , I am not going to back the will of the people of this state. "I" have too much riding on it.

You know what gets me,They know you and promise you the moon, when there is an election,I for one don't except promises from people I do not know, especially those in public office, they never deliver anyway, and sometimes I think they don't remember their civics, they can't have their say unless its approved AND they forgot who put them in office,Well,we just take them out of office.....I am so sick of these people, living off the state and us,and I still say they doing a public service(You Think)should get NO PAY.....They are volunteering to serve the people,What about the police and the fireman and the teachers??????They need to get together and vote themselves a raise too!!!!!!They deserve it,they are doing their jobs.......Wait elections come and go,so do they.........

Governor jindal has taken a strong stand. Yeah, sure. He is against it, but he is not going to do anything. That is so impressive. What strong leadership. Every politician makes decisions on when it is during their term. They all know that it is almost four more years before the elections and they always count on the voters forgetting by then. I hope this starts a voter revolution. I think that the citizens should do something whether the bill passes or not. We know where their hearts are.

I just don't get Jindal's reasoning. We voted for him because he said he would stand up to the legislator and special interests. Also, does he not get the whole idea of "Checks and Balances"? The executive branch has the power of veto because it keeps the legislative branch in check. What part of that does Jindal not get? This pay raise, even reduced, is still an outrage. I call on all Louisiana citizens to contact both their senator and the governor and still let them know how you feel about this bill. If this bill passes we need to make sure that no one who voted for this bill makes it back to office. It is time for Louisiana to clean house! http://senate.legis.state.la.us/Senators/
