Louisiana Jindal In VP Sweepstakes

Written by: Jeff Crouere

According to CBS News, Governor Bobby Jindal is now in the midst of the race for Vice President, ranking 6th among vice-presidential hopefuls. CBS described Jindal as a “policy wunderkind who has little beltway baggage and brings ethnic diversity to boot.” The respected political reporter and analyst Bob Novak ranks Jindal even higher on the list, placing him number 5 in the VP derby.

How is the Governor responding to this attention? Obviously, Jindal loves the interest and the fame which is resulting from this story. He is a regular guest on a number of national cable television shows. In the process, the Governor has refused to end the vice presidential speculation and will not remove himself from consideration. Unlike Democratic U.S. Senator Jim Webb of Virginia, who said he would not accept the vice presidential nomination, it is clear that Jindal is practically campaigning for the job.

It is quite typical for a politician to aspire to higher office as almost every politician wants to advance their career. For Jindal it is even more of a story since he is a 37 year old Indian-American, who would make history if selected.

In the meantime, he is being lambasted by his legislative opponents for his aspirations for national office. State Senator Yvonne Dorsey (D-Baton Rouge) says that Jindal’s vetoes this week was “aimed at feeding his ridiculous Presidential ambitions.” From now on, Dorsey and other opponents will second guess every move Governor Jindal makes and try to link it to the national political scene.

The more Jindal pursues the national media and spotlight, the more that his opponents will make his aspirations a negative issue. Jindal is a long shot for the selection, but as long as this political game continues, the longer it will be a sideshow that occupies attention in the State Capitol and political circles across the nation.

Until McCain makes his choice, expect Jindal to continue to pursue the national media spotlight and receive criticism from his political foes.  It is part of the unusual political environment that now characterizes the Jindal era in Louisiana politics.

It may sound out sorts, but (D) Harold Ford Jr. of Tennessee would perhaps make an excellent V.P. running mate choice for McCain...... He is like waaaaaaaaayyyyyy more on the ball than Piyush...................... He may be a member of the Democrat party, but he has some fairly conservative leanings... I have listened to him talk, he is an excellent orator................ And pretty dayaaaammmmm smart too.....

Why not Bobby for VP? Here's a guy that is smart and full of ideas but with no track record other than holding several government jobs and jumping around. Heck, if Barack H. Obama can have millions supporting him why not Bobby. Obama has no track record and no experience to run a large corporation much less the USA. But he's marketable, he's articulate, he's the MTV superstar. Bobby hasn't proved anything other than he is inexperienced. He needs some seasoning before he's ready for higher office. He hasn't proved anything yet. I guess since we live in this instant gratification society "everyone can be a king!"

Spin, rhetoric, whatever Pi is nothing more than a political opportunist. This state made a mistake and the best thing that could happen is that the citizens take a look at what he really is and start the damn veto process again. Rhett get out the tarot cards, I am going to do a reading to see what is in the future for Pi.

I don't know why this keeps coming up since Jindal is NOT going to be McCains's VP.

If your ranked 5th or 6th on the list, alot of other people have to fall by the wayside for you to be selected. When Jindal picked his campaign manager for governor as his chief of staff a lot of people questioned Jindal's decision. They completely missed Jindal's reasoning. The Jindal campaign never really ended. He simply shifted from running for Governor to running for Vice President. The lack of transparency Jindal has maintained in the Governor's office is designed to hide the real agenda. What should be disconcerting to Republicans is that Jindal is perfectly willing to turn over the governor's office to Mitch Landrieu just before the 2010 census and subsequent political redistricting. He doesn't care about that, he only cares about Jindal. If Steve Scalise had not been forced to step aside for Jindal in the First Congressional District in 2005, Scalise might be challenging Mary Landrieu right now instead of former liberal Democrat and former John Kerry supporter John Kennedy.

If Senator McCain picks Gov. Jindal as his running mate, how will he explain to the national audience headlines of this sort.."Gov. Jindal's administration accused of not being transparent enough"? ......BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Louisiana Governor's Office still ranks last in the country when it comes to transparency, according to one university study. Some legislators say Governor Bobby Jindal even fought legislation this year that would have changed that status. Link to entire article.... http://www.wafb.com/global/story.asp?s=8688228

I saw on Fox News this morning a young boy aged 9 asked McCain when and who he was going to pick his running mate. He answered by talking about the process of looking at all of the talented individuals. Then he said he wants somebody young and energetic. Let's face it the only person on the planet that can hang with Obama when it comes to spin is Jindal.
